hindi po ba nag-iincrease yung price ng memorial plans tulad ng pag increase sa memorial lot? plano ko sana kunin muna yung memorial lot while bata2x pa hehe

Now for the service, I'm wondering if it's really safe to invest in pre-need like St. Peter. I know na hindi sila monitored and insured ng PDIC. What if malugi sila, paano ibabalik sa ating mga policyholders ang pera? I'm still in my 20's, I got a long way to go. What if in 20 years malugi? Paano ang investment ko?

Pre-need companies are now being monitored by the IC. Same agency that monitors insurance companies.

I've been thinking about this a lot for a few months now but never really had the time to call St. Peter.

Assuming you have life insurance,
why would you get a plan right now when your family can just
purchase a plan using your life insurance proceeds at the time
of your death?

And they can even get a 10% discount for paying in cash.

Am I missing something here?

^why would i get a memorial plan?

Hmmm... thanks for sharing your thoughts but that doesn't
seem to be a very compelling reason.

I mean I could just deposit the 1st year premium
in BPI's Save-Up Deposit product which provides
x5 insurance coverage so if I die prematurely, my
family can just claim the insurance proceeds and pay
in cash(AND save 10% off the price).

Then from the 2nd year through 5th year, I could
invest them in a mutual fund. Like say Philequity.
Its history goes back to 1995. If a newly wed couple
in their mid 20s instead of getting a St. Peter's plan,
invested in Philequity instead, that investment would
be a whole lot right now.

1,000 invested in Philequity would be 30,000 right now.
So, if you got a St. George plan with a 5,900 annual premium
the 2nd-5th year premium would be 23,600 in total.
If invested all at once(coz I'm too lazy to compute with
real dates and real NAV :p )
It would now be 708,000

So, while your anak would be happy to know that he won't
have to worry about the memorial services.

Mine would go to BPI, claim the insurance and can still
get the original 5,900(with interest) and then buy a plan
outright(with 10% discount)

AND can still get the (potentially) 708,000 I have invested.
(realistically speaking though, I'd probably have to dip into
the 708,000 investment as the plan would have probably
risen in price due to inflation but probably not by that much.

my dad got his a long time ago and it was 250 pesos per month,
whereas today the "main" plan is 550. So, just double the price)

If your anak, met my anak. Would your anak still be as
thankful? :p

Anyone else who has a policy contract?
Maybe there's a cooling off period where if you buy
a plan, you cannot immediately use it?

I think it was you who posted that her dad got a very
measly return on his sunlife insurance policy right?

I wouldn't disagree and that's because insurance isn't
supposed to be an investment which brings with it
the risk that you might loose on your investment.

Insurance should primarily be used to well, insure
 ;)

I guess it depends on your family right?
My bro helped out during my wife's very difficult pregnancy
financially.. like over 50k na tulong. I don't forsee this
type of "issue" in our family.  ;)

And my wife's probably be the one who's going to take
care of my affairs. with my bro as backup if something happens
to the both of us.

So, I guess it really depends on your family situation.

I finally got off my ass pala and asked an agent and he says there's
no restriction on transferring the plan on day 1 to another person(deceased).

magka-iba kasi ang purpose nila.
as long as you used it for it's real purpose,
both are good and beneficial.
insurance can help ANY TIME.
investment can help OVER TIME.

At this point in my life, getting a memorial plan for myself (or my husband) isn't a priority. We'll save na lang muna for our term insurance, emergency fund then create an investment portfolio, then a memorial plan.

However, my siblings and I got each a memorial plan for our parents from St. Peter (they haven't turned 60 yet). They only have SSS kasi. My lola died recently and good thing my father got a memorial plan for her 4 or so years ago kaya konti na lang yung nilabas na pera. And St. Peter coordinated everything so kumbaga umiyak lang ang mga anak ni lola because of grief of losing her (and not of losing a lot of money because of the funeral). Actually, it was our parents who proposed that we get them a memorial plan because ayaw na nila kaming mahirapan.

hindi mo rin masasabi ang panahon kaya mas ok kung may makuha kang memorial plan. lately lang ako kumuha at least panatag loob ko, hindi ako magpapabigat sa parents ko. =)
