^i remember a friend tuloy na UP Grad major in economics but she ended up in a call center out of financial need. sabi nya she's trying to be happy na lang at least madami syang naiipon. ikaw ba sis, depende kasi kung gaano mo kakailangan yung high compensation eh. baka naman yung low compensation w/ good satisfaction eh mabilis ang promotion at salary increase.

Maraming factors yan that you will need to take into consideration before deciding.
1. Enough ba yung sweldo ng asawa mo to sustain the needs of your family? Kaya ba na siya lang muna?
2. How many and how old na ang kids mo? (tuition fees, immunization fees... etc.)
3. How old are you and what are your long term plans?
4. Location and shift

If you are nasa 30s na, mahirap ng pajump jump ng career so better if you choose the one that will give you happiness. Pero kung bata ka pa at temporary lang naman and you need the money pang save, go for the one with the higher compensation. Tapos kapag nameet mo na yung goal mo financially, tsaka ka humanap nung job that you love.

Sa case namin ni hubby, money ang number one priority namin kaya kahit night shift siya and day shift ako, at hindi ako happy sa work ko, tiis muna kasi nag iipon pa kami.

Malay natin, in the long run, you will learn to love the job who gives the higher salary.

Try nyo mag forecast din and enumerate the pros and cons. :)

Cloudclean, career-driven ka pa ba or are you only looking for a job to help augment your husband's income and/or to keep you busy?

If money is the main consideration, take the high-paying job. Otherwise, consider the other one, if you just need something naman to keep you busy or to earn extra.

Marcia made some very good points. Madaming factors talaga to consider. I read on another thread that you are a clinical instructor, ikaw nga ba yon? Ayaw mo na ba yung job?

Like marcia mentioned, consider the shift and location din and where you can get better work-life balance. I work from 12-9pm. my husband works 3pm-12mn but when he gets home, he still works sometimes up to 5am. He spends very little time with baby on weekdays so ayaw ko nang sabayan din. Dati 3pm-12mn din ako pero nagpalipat ako para naman i am awake na when my baby wakes up and most days, she's still awake when i get home. Buti na lang malapit lang ang office sa bahay and our travel time is about 20-30 minutes lang each way, 15 on lucky days. So madami akong time for the baby.

I am not as career-driven anymore in the sense na hindi ko na pangarap umakyat masyado sa corporate ladder. I leave that to my husband. Kung sasabayan ko siya, baka in the end mag-suffer ang time with the baby. So my job now is really just to augment our income, bonus na lang that it's a job i love. I almost took another 9am-6pm job kasi naisip ko that's the ideal shift pa din for me and my baby but it meant taking a significant pay cut that we can't afford so i stuck na with this job na 12-9 ang shift.

So consider muna your priorities and talk to your husband.

hi mommies! Nagka-buhawi pala kanina dito sa New Manila, di ko alam now lang nalaman sa tv patrol. nasa bathroom ako nun, naliligo, i felt yung wind saka nadinig ko maingay sa roof (we're on the highest floor before penthouse)..nawirduhan nga ako bakit may hagin na pumasok sa cr, eh mainit pa nga supposed to be because brown out kanina. Yun pala yon... Stay safe mga mommies! Stay indoors na lang as much as possible.

If that's the case, kelangan i-overnight parking sa mall ang mga sasakyan namin :(

Nagpunta ko Makati kanina to pick Dan up from work.

be safe mga mommies.

Ultimately I believe its best if you can live within your means & enjoy the lifestyle you want in relation to the pay you get = happiness. Therefore financial competency in managing your own cash flow is important. There are some who get high pay yet spend more than what they earn because they have this "feel good factor" in earning a lot, thinking their next pay day will cover up their expenses. (minsan ganito ko hehe). What they did not realise is that in terms of emergency, they do not have an emergency fund in place.

What my thoughts are is that a low-paying job can also give you satisfaction if one knows how to budget properly and leave it aside for emergencies and living within their means.

Take a job which you like , and then try to increase your pay in that industry :)

Cloud Clean - Lisa and Marcia made some really good points regarding your dilemma. Pero ako kase career driven pa ko. Ang motivation ko pati is achievementand affiliation so hinde ako talaga pwede sa job na hinde ko gusto or hinde ako nacha-challenge kase yan ang nagpapa-resign saken. BUT, pay is very important for me especially now that I have a daughter. Though my husband earns more than enough to support me and Zoe, it wont be enough kung talagang gusto namin mag-save. So to keep the lifestyle that we currently have and to ensure that we can save up, we both have to work.

I also strongly believe in living within your means.

I really believe in living within your means..in our case pa nga below our means pa minsan haha kasi galing kami sa family na kuripot ang mga nanay..so ganon both ang training namin ni hubby. But we know naman how to enjoy life and enjoy yung pinaghirapan namin.. :)

Hi Mommies and to the new Mommies who just joined.

Cloudcean, maganda lahat ng inputs ng mga mommies about your dilemma.  I was also in that dilemma more than 10 yrs. ago. Well, I chose to get a pay cut instead of staying in my old job where I knew I wouldnt be happy and just get sicker and sicker. Yun kasi main reason ko sa old job ko, I was working around 12 hours a day M-F and Sunday. I got sick a lot and worse, I was getting bored. I wanted to relax, be healthy, get married and have kids. Money has never been an issue with me. Kasi, feeling ko naman, I can adjust my lifestyle according to what I earn. And that's what I did.  When I changed firms/companies, with the pay cut but with a straight 9-6, M-F workweek, I stopped buying Ferragamos and Bally's haha kahit on sale! But I was happier, healthier and more relaxed. Plus, I liked my job for the first 3 years haha.

Siempre naging antsy nanaman ako, I transferred to a different department, that's where I am now.  I am one of the lucky ones who has found a job that is also my personal advocacy. It does not pay as high as my former colleagues in my first job, but I'm happy and I have perfect work-life balance. I may not afford the branded bags and shoes, and the cars and other luxury stuff that my peers can afford now, but I dont really care about that. My priority, as well as that of my husband's is that we raise our kids to the best of our abilties, and that means, giving them as much of our time as we can.  Maybe it's alsp because I got married late that I think this way. But, ako kasi, i'm no longer concerned about climbing the corporate ladder. In fact, I have been very open with my boss in saying that I do not really want another promotion. Promotion means bigger responsibilities and maybe more time at work, I cannot do that now while my kids are still young.  I have also turned down 2 opportunities to transfer to other similarly big and known companies for a higher position, simply because I didnt want to be stressed out again and spending less time with the kids.  Like the other sisses here, we  do live within and maybe below our means. Saving and investing are very imprtant to us because we are doing those primarily to secure our children's future.

Mikaela - andameng tao talaga who live beyond their means. Social climbers tawag ko jan. Madame kameng kakilalang ganyan unfortunately. I feel sorry for them.

Maussie - I totally agree na time is so important and it should be spent with our kids. Ako talaga hinde mahilig mag-OT, as in honda ako palage sa work. My philosophy naman kase is that in the line of work that I do, OTs arent really necessary as long as I manage my time well. I have had colleagues who would spend half of their shift surfing the net tapos mago-OT for 2-3 hours dahil 'madame pa daw kelangan tapusin'. Even if I have training classes, I dont stay behind to send reports kase naka-ready na yan lahat before shift ends cus I do them during our last break. Time management is one thing I've mastered in the past. Bawat minute talaga important saken especially kapag pa-weekend na.

Good morning mommies!

Same tayo maussie and lisa i am not concerned about climbing the corporate ladder anymore since i gave birth. In fact, i stepped back and asked to be " demoted" kasi i gave up being a people manager. So im now a steady eddie. Hahaha. I also gave up a project na high profile and sent me abroad bec it took a lot of my time. Imagine 9 am nasa meeting nako, 11pm sa bahay may meeting pa din because i talk to people from all regions. My goodness. Hahaha. E nung nanganak nako, thats when i told my boss, i cant do it anymore and asked to be transferred to my previous role and to work from home ng 3x a week. Nagshishift talaga priorities pag may anak na. Ngayon inooffer ulit sakin yung project, for the longest time, i declined pero now nahiya nako sa boss ko and agreed na interim solution lang nya ako.

First time nagkasakit si v and i cried  :'( pinainum na namin gamot and pinunasan.

hi yheng!

cloudclean, ako naman if I were in your shoes, I'd prefer the job that I like.. ang hirap i-drag ang sarili out of the bed if you do not love/like your job.. tendency mo is to be unproductive.. unless you're in dire need of money, then take the job with a higher compensation.. ang jobs ba na nicocompare mo ay same field/industry?

good morning mommies :)
 thanks sa mga advices ;)

lisa- clinical instructor and nurse lecturer ako before kaya lang nag-decrease yung number of nursing students na nag-enrol sa university where i've worked kaya ayun hindi nila ni-renew contract ko after my maternity leave kaya eto job hunting mode ako. Sayang kasi yun pa naman yung job ko na love na love ko dahil with good compensation and great satisfaction ako. Siguro i'm looking for a job na ganun din kaya naconfuse ako ngaun..

jai- get well soon kay V. Hirap pag babies ang may sakit e..
