belated happy birthday is correct.
kasi when you say happy belated birthday means the actual birth date is late while belated happy birthday means your greeting is late for the event.

^Listening to what we call as "inner ear" could only work if you are exposed to proper construction (syntax), meaning you trained your mind to warn you if there's something amiss about how a sentence is constructed.  This can be achieved through long time or extensive usage of proper English (or any language). Though, this is helpful to some, this could be dangerous to those who are not native English speaker or do not have enough language exposure, particularly, those who grew up learning the bastardized version of the language.

I think reading a lot and practicing the language could sharpen our language proficiency.  Also, when we use the language (English and some other), we should welcome criticism or suggestion.  Learning comes when we realize our mistakes and shortcomings.

^ i guess so. my mom was very strict when it comes to grammar so my training started way back when i was a child who was just learning to read story books. LOL

the training went on as i began to read classic and contemporary novels. maybe that's why i took journalism in college.

i'm not a native english speaker.. just like any normal filipino kid, i learned english at school.. i used this tip when i was in elementary..it worked well for me

by the way, i have never heard either of my parents speak in english hehe.. pure tagalog sila at home..

this maybe grammatically correct, but it sounds awkward. My H.s teacher taught that you also have to consider how it sounds.

correct: i can hardly wait

Usage: Since hardly, scarcely, and barely already have negative force, it is redundant to use another negative in the same clause: he had hardly had (not he hadn't hardly had) time to think; there was scarcely any (not scarcely no) bread left

wrong: Most effective way to loose weight
correct: most effective way to lose weight


eto madalas ko marinig sa mga amerikano : "i don't want nobody" -- it should be "i don't want anybody" or "i want nobody"  explanation ng asawa ko.. kasi daw gusto lang nila i-stress na sobrang ayaw nila.. hehe.. oh well slang nga naman.. pero minsan ganun nadin tuloy nasasabi ko.. kasi yun ang mas naiintindihan nila..
