^advisable is 6 months.

For the past weeks, i was able to give my 8-month old daughter munggo beans and malunggay! She loved it! I also gave her papaya, melon and pakwan, but she didn't like those. Weird nga (but okay  for me) that she likes the veggies and bland foods better than mga sweet fruits.

my baby Orion loves munggo too! at first hiwalay yung luto ng munggo for baby (no oil, pork or fish) pero ngayon kung ano na yung pagkakaluto for our ulam yun na rin kay baby. as for fruits, melon lang tsaka avocado gusto ni baby. if the fruit is too sweet or a bit sour, di na kinakain. He used to eat papaya pero ngayon ayaw na nya.

pinatry namin yung taho kay baby this morning, and nagustuhan naman nya. basta wala yung syrup kinakain naman. pero pag meron, niluluwa agad.

^^yes sis, i just mashed the munggo beans (boiled soft)

^nakakatuwa, im excited to give my baby table food na rin.

Now, nag-eexplore kami sa mga finger foods kasi gusto ko matuto talaga sya na sya magfeed sa sarili nya, so far ive given na boiled carrot sticks, lightly toasted bread (cut up into strips), and well-cooked penne pasta. I have observed na hindi mach-choke si baby kasi may reflex sila na parang automatically hindi nasswallow ang food if it's still too big. So they kept on chewing and gnawing (wala pang teeth si baby).

Kanina pala, breakfast i gave her Cheerios cereals mixed sa milk nya hehe..same kami ng breakfast

i've seen that with my baby too. kahit na chew na nya and big yung bolus na nacreate nya, di nya i-saswallow. he'll spit it out then kapag masarap yung food, he'll pick up the small pieces from his shirt tapos kakainin nya. hehe.  ;)

try mo sis cheerios or rice krispies, just give it to your baby as it is (no milk). para ma-improve ang fine motor skills.  ;D

my baby likes taho. every time i see manong sa tricycle terminal, binibilhan ko ang baby ko ng 10 pesos na taho. walang sago at konting syrup lang, gustong gusto niya. yesterday we gave her banana, madami siyang nakain. we give her almost all of the table food na safe for her kaya madalas we cook na makakain din ng baby ko.

^my son loves taho too! But we give it without the syrup and sago. Syrup (and honey) shouldnt be given to baby younger than 1 because of botulism. Plus mahirap masanay ang bata sa matamis habang maaga. Lahi pa naman namin ang diabetes. We buy the chilled ones from the food bazaar from a nearby mall.

My 10mo old eats 3 full meals per day plus snacks in between. Good thing Hindi naman affected milk intake niya. Malakas pa din mag milk.

Parang may timer tummy ng baby ko. Like if it's 11am (schedule of his lunchtime), tuturo na Nya sa yaya Nya yung kitchen...meaning the yaya should prepare his food already.

at last natapos ko rin basahin ang mga posts nyo.  My baby is turning 6 mos on Monday and mag sosolid na sya.  So excited to prepare his food na.  I learned a lot from all your posts.

Ill follow all your advises. I'll start first siguro sa squash then potatoes... basta I will make meal plan for my baby.  Yung daughter ko kase lumaki sa cereals and gerber.  Medyo di maganda result.  Kaya this time mag all natural ako.  Good thing I came across tong thread na to.. Thanks mga sisses!

^sis, check wholesomebabyfood.com , that site's been helpful to me, i follow their chart. They don't advise potatoes as first food kasi wala masyadong nutrients. Actually ngayon as in today ko pa lang binigyan ng potato si baby. Nagustuhan naman nya :)

missoni, sige ill try to give cheerios and rice krispies as is.. Ang na-try ko pa lang kasi yung happy baby organic puffs and melt hehe

^sorry, but it is recommended that babies should begin eating solids not earlier than 6mos. for the first 6 mos of life, babies should only be exclusively on human milk (or formula)! Early introduction can expose your baby to allergies

from wholesomebabyfood.com

Current Recommendations for Introducing Solid Foods

Current recommendations indicate that breast milk or formula should be baby’s main source of nutrition until at least 6 months of age.  While many pediatricians recommend starting solid foods sometime between 4 and six months of age, the earlier introduction of solid foods may have certain risk factors; consult your pediatrician. For example, the "Introduction of complementary feedings [solid foods] before 6 months of age generally does not increase total caloric intake or rate of growth and only substitutes foods that lack needed nutrients and the protective components of human milk (and formula). AAP Policy Note - 194"

.
Even the World Health Organization has the same recommendations

Kellymom.org has this article discussing why one should delay introduction of solids.

I totally agree. :) Dapat exclusively formula parin siya para makuha niya lahat ng nutrients na kailangan pa ng bata.

Introduce solids gradually, one at a time, waiting at least three days after each new food. This way you'll get a heads-up if your baby has an allergic reaction to one of them. so its fine if you try on the 4th or 5th month. if the baby isnt ready yet you will know right away. in that case you can start on the 6th month.

^the 3 day rule when introducing food applies when you introduce it when the baby turns 6month

Delaying solids decreases the risk of food allergies.
It is well documented that prolonged exclusive breastfeeding results in a lower incidence of food allergies (see Allergy References and Risks of Artificial Feeding). From birth until somewhere between four and six months of age, babies possess what is often referred to as an "open gut." This means that the spaces between the cells of the small intestines will readily allow intact macromolecules, including whole proteins and pathogens, to pass directly into the bloodstream. This is great for your breastfed baby as it allows beneficial antibodies in breastmilk to pass more directly into baby's bloodstream, but it also means that large proteins from other foods (which may predispose baby to allergies) and disease-causing pathogens can pass right through, too. During baby's first 4-6 months, while the gut is still "open," antibodies (sIgA) from breastmilk coat baby's digestive tract and provide passive immunity, reducing the likelihood of illness and allergic reactions before gut closure occurs. Baby starts producing these antibodies on his own at around 6 months, and gut closure should have occurred by this time also. See How Breast Milk Protects Newborns and The Case for the Virgin Gut for more on this subject.

^^ kanya kanya naman yan sis eh, karamihan sa friends ko kase they started early and ok naman babies nila. yung iba naman sinusunod nila yung 6 months.
Your baby may be 3 months old or 4 months old when you start to feel she may need "something more" than formula or breast milk.  Maybe she is beginning to awaken more often at night or eat more often than "usual" and you wonder if introducing solid foods may be what she needs.
