getting baby on solids: 6months and onwards
« Reply #100 on: June 13, 2011, 10:33:25 pm »
my baby is now 6.5months. we started solids when he was 6months. as per pedia by 7months baby should have 3meals a day. the amount would be equivalent to 1baby jar per meal (we give baby homemade baby food). 2weeks nang nakasolid si baby (squash, carrot, apple) pero hindi pa din namin maestablish the 3meals a day. lumalabas baby has one good meal and hindi pa ito isang jar mga quarter to half a jar baby food and then the two other meals tikim tikim lang siya. ganito ba talaga? medyo worried pa naman ako dahil sabi nang pedia her weight of 7.8kgs is ok lang but she needs to gain more weight. magaan daw siya. any tips mommies???

My baby is 7 months old. She eats once a day lang, 2 ice cubes. On her checkup last month, she was 7.2kg. Her birth weight was only 2.5kg and pedia said her weight now is ok. Basta she gains at least 600g per month, pedia is happy.

I dont know when we'll start feeding her 2x a day. Question ko din yan eh. How do i know if she's ready for more frequent feedings or bigger servings per feeding.

I also tried to give her a piece of happy baby puffs last weekend. I tried it muna myself and mabilis naman nagmelt. But when i put it in her mouth, parang she gagged and natakot ako baka ma-choke so kinuha ko yung puff from her tongue.

after 2 weeks.. okay na.. wala na yung gag reflex niya.. pero i tablespoon lang per feeding..

now at 8 months, 3 meals a day na with snacks in between and pahabol na 3 oz milk formula every after feeding hehe..

baby's birth weight was 3kgs. 1jar is about 128ml (40z) baby food. si baby ang good meal niya is 1oz. at once a day lang ito. is this normal? how do i increase/mapilit si baby na kumain pa?

^ang takaw niya ha. :-)

birth weight ng bunso ko is 3.13kg.

on her 5th month, 6.4kg siya. pedia wants us to start giving her solid foods. 1st week, we started with cerelac muna. on her 2nd week, dinagdagan namin ang menu ng mashed vegies like potato, kalabasa. 3rd week nagdagdag nanaman kami ng new, fruits, like banana, apple, grapes.

when my bunso is on her 8th month, 7.3kg lang siya. binibigyan ko na ng mashed rice with veggies, or plain soup, like campbells  or knorr mushroom soup, fave niya. okay din sa kanya ang lugaw, pero tig konti lang ang kinakain. i managed to feed her twice a day.

on her 13th month, nasa 8.3kg lang siya. sabi ni pedia, nasa normal bracket pa rin ang weight pero nasa mababang percentage. kumakain na siya ng chicken pieces. plus konting subo subo ng plain rice, ng spaghetti, fries. fave niya si jollibee more than mcdo. :-)

ngayon hindi pa kami nagweigh, she's 3years4months now, at kumakain na siya ng 3xaday pero tig konti pa din, plus snacks in between, plus more milk. last time we checked, nung july 2010 before we left pinas, she's 11.8kg (@2years5months).

i-mosigor mo kahit every other day..

her vitamins are ceelin plus and kidi pharmaton (MWFSat) and, ceelin plus and cherifer forte (TTHSun). kapag meron dito mosegor or appetens, baka try ko ipainom sa kanya. kung wala, magpapabili ako sa pinas.

^baka kaya hindi makuhang tumaba kasi sa appetens.. para kasing more on pampasigla siya kesa pampagana kumain kaya if hindi naman matamlay, ang result hyper yung bata..

try mo mosegor.. lahat dito sa family namin yun gamit eh

^ My baby didnt like promina. We gave it to her nung sunday nung di pa ako nakabili ng veggies.

I'm a working mom too. What i do is on sundays, i prepare the food for the week then freeze para kahit wala ako, alam ko kung anong pinapakain nila somehow.

This week, we have ground rice and veggies. So 1 cube of rice plus 1 cube of veggies (squash or carrots or potatoes). Pero parang she doesnt like it with rice, gusto niya pa din solo. She eats 2x a day.

Minsan if we have fruits, we give her cold fruits slices in a munchkin feeder. And now since she can have plain yoghurt na, we will mix din fresh fruits.

@clueless, some questions here:
How do you prepare the veggies?
and panu mo cook yung rice?
How do you reheat the frozen food?
Pwede na ba on her first trial of solid, rice lang and formula?

When did u give her fruits, what age?

Thanks. Sorry medyo daming questions. Gusto ko na kasi siya bigyan ng solids on her 6 month birthday which will be on sunday na.

^ merong boxed rice cereals ang earth's best. more like naka sachet :)
sagutin ko na din ibang tanong mo:

How do you prepare the veggies? - wash, peel (if needed), boil, then mash
rice - i held off giving rice to my kid siguro till about mga 10mos sya. walang special preparation, kung paano isaing ordinarily, ganun na
reheat frozen food - thaw, i take it out of the fridge 2 hourse before feeding. kung talagang gusto mo mainit, pinapatong ko lang sa ibabaw ng rice but be mindful of the temperature of the food when you serve it. dapat not too hot and not too cold.
first trial of solids - i'd suggest rice cereal para hindi ganon kabuo-buo. ayaw mo mag sayote or squash?

age for fruits - depende sa comfort level mo. ako kasi i held off anything sweet until about 11-12months. pero ako lang naman yun. :)

^^ my anwers:

How do you prepare the veggies?

Better if you get organc lalo na for brocolli kasi di binabalatan yon.

Like weng din but instead of boiling, we steam.

Pag steam na, i use a hand blender to puree then lagay ko sa covered ice tray. When frozen, i transfer to a ziploc bag so i can reuse the ice tray for something else.

and panu mo cook yung rice?

I have ground rice, as in giniling na bigas. I found a recipe for rice cereal on wholesomebabyfood.com. Please check na lang.

How do you reheat the frozen food?

Food for day - we get ice cube/s from the freezer and place in covered food cup tapos sa ref na para magthaw na. Pag malambot na, we add formula to get desired consistency then feed. So i dont really warm the food. But the rice cereal, we warm the cup by dipping it in hot water. Dapat initin ito kasi otherwise, buo buo siya.

If you can make this, better than cerelac or earths best. And better daw to use pala brown rice.

Pwede na ba on her first trial of solid, rice lang and formula?

Yup, pwede.

When did u give her fruits, what age?

We first gave cold fruit slices in a munchkin feeder when she was teething so at around 6 months. She liked the cold kasi. Sinisipsip niya lang naman ang juice. We've tried melon, pear, apple and watermelon pa lang. She was also given banana once pero naconstipate siya so di pa namin tnry ulit.

Thanks. Sorry medyo daming questions. Gusto ko na kasi siya bigyan ng solids on her 6 month birthday which will be on sunday na.

They also have it in big boxes. The ones in the sachets are the travel sizes

My little boy started with solids when he's almost 7mos. So far he tried the following:
Potato - he HATES it
Squash - his favorite
Sayote - not a big fan of it
Apple - the same as sayote
avocado - another favorite
Banana - so so
