Hi! Created this thread para sa mga aspiring FA's like me. I heard hiring ngayon sa OMAN AIR they're looking for 500 cabin crews!

I have been wanting to apply for the longest time. More than 5 years na. Medyo mahaba ito pero tingin ko magiging helpful naman sa makakabasa ng answers/input ninyo. Questions sa mga FAs/batikan na sa pag-aapply, pero most specially kay Ms. Star and Ms. Sofala:

1. I'm 27, married, mom to a 2 year old boy. Will my age, marital status and being a mom be a hindrance?

From what I know, local airlines ang may age discrimination, pero will it be an issue sa middle eastern airlines? Especially my marital status. Parang nabasa ko somewhere na preferred nila single? Although may kilala ako sa Saudia, same age, may baby din pero di ata married so baka hindi dineclare na may baby sya, not sure.

2. How strict are Middle Eastern airlines with their height and weight standards? Or arm reach lang talaga ang important?

I'm 5'2 and 1/4 according to my gym instructor. Will this be a problem? Abot ko naman yung 212cm on tip toe, pero I'm really not tall at all.

3. I speak a little Spanish. I have been thinking of taking lessons to be fluent, and get certificates pero hindi ko natutuloy. Will it really be an advantage to speak a third language?

4. I do not have perfect teeth and skin. How important are these things?

I have a friend in Qatar Airways. Sabi nya all I need is to be "a little tall and smart. That's it. You don't have to be pretty at all." By that I assumed hindi ko kailangan maging artistahin hehe. I look fine naman. But I have a few skin issues (pores) and my teeth are aligned naman, just a little bit yellow and imperfectly shaped (not perfect little squares). I mean, my teeth and skin are okay, just not perfect, do they have to be perfect?

5. Do you think I have a chance?

I look okay, I do a bit of modelling every once in a while, but my skin and teeth are not perfect
I'm not artistahin, so no, not aspiring for PAL hehe (or misconception ba ito?)
I only spent a few semesters in college
I have a certificate in Food and Beverage Service (this helps, i guess?)
a year of call center experience
two years of front desk work
English, Filipino, a little Spanish
no tattoos
no disfiguring scars
no moles
20/20 vision

Should I even bother or just let this dream die already? haha. I'm married na after all. I'm fine with settling down. I guess I just wanna know how high my chances are of getting in, and if it's high enough baka I'll finally apply. We can use the money you know hehe.

also, my mom's friend is/was the president of an association of flight attendants. Will a letter of recommendation from her help? Will it help to have an FA friend in Qatar Airways? I'm not close with them hehe but if recommendation letters from them will help, then I can use a little kapal ng muka to ask them for a favor.

Training ko na sana this July as an FA since my ninang has her own agency located in Paranaque but due to some personal matters, hindi ko muna tinuloy but later this year I'll pursue this career. Sayang din eh free naman na yung training ko since siya na daw bahala. If anyone's interested na magundergo muna ng training, I can give you her contact details. Sila na rin bahala magassign kung saang airline ka magwowork.

My friend applied as FA but was rejected since she's already married with a kid.  Kailangan ba single talaga pag nag-apply as FA? I've no plans pero my younger sister wanted to be a FA one day.

Mga sis,  share naman kayo kung flight attendants na ba kayo or planning to be one..  Ano yung mga paghahandang ginawa nyo for you to become one?

Kasi base sa nakikita or nababasa ko masyadong perfectionist ang hiring requirement dito sa pinas compared sa ibang bansa kasi parang almost lahat must be single at walang kids,  tapos you should have a flawless skin which is sa naexperience kong ibang airlines parang di naman kita ang legs at yung braso kung makinis ba o hindi.

^ Hello there! Just stumbled sa thread mo while I was browsing here. Currently a flight attendant in the Middle East here.

Actually, very true lahat ng sinabi mo, very perfectionist ang hiring sa Pinas, I was hired through IPAMS, which is a legitimate hiring agency for the company I am working for.

Totoong you have to be essentially flawless sa mga uncovered body parts mo, kasi they will really inspect your nooks and crooks. I remember I went and mistakenly wore formal trousers and the agent asked me to show my 'binti'. Also they inspected my arms. Until now, big thing sa amin if you have visible wounds sa arms, they advise you to go off the flight duties and let it heal and go back to the Grooming department before irelease to flying again. I don't know if it is the same sa lahat ng company though.

Advise to get hired? I think you just have to be on the right place, right time and with the right person and be yourself sa interview. Meron akong ka-work na 4 times siya nagtry then hindi natatanggap until finally on her 5th try, natanggap din.  Also, I suggest na make yourself be memorable to the interviewer, kasi mejo gasgas na yung 'I want to travel and see the world'. I know it's true, pero if you want to stand out... mejo kailangan iba. That is my on opinion though.

I Have been to the final interview here once and the clients really liked me but I didn't reach the required BMI then. I wanted to give it a try since a lot of my friends are in the industry but I took that as a sign na din na maybe it is not for me. I want to stay here to raise my daughter and am pretty happy naman sa Pinas. My advice be yourself. Be polite and have a welcoming aura of course they need more than just appearances you have to be smart or at least quick witted so prepare. Of course a background in customer service always helps.

I wanted to apply sana dati. Naisip ko lang when a friend once told me na sinend daw nya pic ko sa kaibigan nya from cebu pac at sabi try ko daw. Ang strategy daw kasi nila dun, domestic muna saka nag iinternational. I was still in my early 20's then. Now, I'm married pero naiisip ko pa rin minsan what if nag try ako. Curious ako sa compensation and benefits, haha. Hope someone can share. I heard kasi bukod sa basic pay, may allowance pa raw kaya hindi mo halos magagalaw yung basic pay. Is it true?

PAL Express is hiring right now. I think sa may Ascott Makati on September 5 and 6 @ 9:00am. My sister just told me about it, she's an FA for PAL. You might want to try it.

^^^thanks sa info sis. will tell my brother to try, over age limit na kasi ako hehe. nagpasa na sya before ng application, nirefer pa sya ng dean nila sa school at for interview na sana. kaso hindi sya nakapunta for personal reasons. he texted the hiring personnel to ask if pwede pa reschedule ng interview kaso wala raw reply eh.

Yup it's true. May basic ka and, yun talaga ang salary amount mo as per the employment contract and which is based on your position sa company. Then in addition to your basic payment is your flying hours which is how much you are paid per flying hour and in addition to that pa is the allowance you get on the country you're staying in per day, so depende sa roster (schedule) mo, wala kasing fix kaming schedule. Every month different schedules and different flights kaya yung sahod mo is different din every month.

^sis, it depends on the airline. Local airlines, around 40-70k which already includes the basic, flying time, transpo allowance, and per diem. Some airlines give commission on inflight sales everyday so that's a plus. 

International airlines pay ranges from 80-100k. More if you get upgraded to business class.
