mga sis, yun mga asia miles na na-earn nyo during your travels, were you able to try redeeming it for a non-flight item?

i was browsing kasi yun site ng asia miles tapos may nagustuhan akong item. Worldwide delivery naman pero nasa terms and conditions ito:

"The consignee is required to pay for all customs charges, import duties and taxes and postal clearance fees where applicable at the destination. "

so i would like to ask those na na-try na mag redeem kung magkano usually ang binabayaran (kung meron man) dito sa tin? worry ko kasi baka naman sobrang mahal yung tax at kakalabasan e parang binili ko lang yun item hehe

^sis, depends magkano yung item. Experience ko (though not with AM) for items less than USD100 di na pinapansin ng customs. If more than that automatic may taxes ka nang babayaran. If I were you have the item delivered in HKG then pick up mo na lang or if you have friends in HKG, dun mo na ipa-deliver.

By the way, these are the following rewards I was able to get thru my AM:

domestic US tickets thru AA
free stays at Cebu Shangrila
leg room seats for HKG-SFO flight
upgrade economy to business class HKG-LAX-HKG flights

one of the item i redeem was a bath towel and courier is charging me around 1.5k for tax. it's cheaper just to buy the towel.

wow! 1500 para sa towel? ang mahal! nakupo yan yun mga kinatatakutan ko - ang mas mahal pa bayaran ko sa taxes kesa sa actual cost ng item hehe.

pero baka they check kasi yun size and weight? bulky siguro yun towel kaya mas malaki ang packaging unlike yun digital thermometer e maliit lang. $:-\$

medyo hassle din pala magredeem ng non-flight items tapos may delivery kasi di mo malalaman magkano magiging tax nun. mas ok pa yun ikaw na lang magpipick up.

Tried to contact asia miles for weeks but no reply. Wala bang office to sa manila? Buti pa ang kris flyer nag respond by phone kaagad. Emailed asia miles twice, left a msg in their voice mailbox but zero action! D@mn!

^^AM is based in HKG. So far, I've had no problems contacting them both via email and telephone. prompt naman sila sumagot sa akin. I think the longest wait I had when I emailed them was 4 days.

^^ay sis sa citibank ka muna tumawag. pero actually pwede mo naman gawin yun online kung may online account ka sa citibank. yun akin kasi dati thru online ko lang din niredeem yun citibank rewards pts ko para maging asia miles. mga 3-4wks processing nga lang sya. pero kung wala kang online account, itawag mo sa citibank para irequest yun pag redeem mo ng premier miles points mo into asia miles points.

once na nacredit na sa asia miles card mo yun points, pwede ka na magredeem ng flight award thru asia miles na website.
