Pros and Cons of Living in a Condominium against living in a house

Normally, the value of the building depreciates while the value of the land where it's on appreciates.

let's say na perpetual yung condo and nakalagpas na 50 years pero kailangan ng ipaayos yung building. What if may umalis dun or di na tinigil na yung contract. Ibebenta ba ng developer yung unit ng mas mahal or mura na?

^^ the owner will decide if they want to sell the unit di ba, not the developer? As to the price, i think, depends on the location and condition of the building&unit, generally mas mahal pa din nabebenta ang condo compared sa acquisition price.

^ re pagluluto, each unit is supposed to have an exhaust naman. Yung sa isang condo namin, medyo sensitive ang smoke alarm so pag me resident na nagluto na di na-on ang exhaust, tumutunog ang alarm. Hassle.

Sa condo we're staying now, mas ok ang ventilation and medyo high ceiling, so minsan kahit nakakalimutan I-on ang exhaust e keri lang.

e paano naman kapag sobrang maamoy yung ulam like tuyo? Sa bahay may exhaust na kami super amoy pa din eh

^ nagdedepreciate pa din yung condo itself, parang bahay din. But you can always have it maintained/improved/renovated/repaired naman. Generally, yung lot ang nagmamahal, basta maganda ang location. If bahain (for example, yung mga na-Ondoy na matindi dati), pwedeng bumaba ang value ng lupa. It really depends on a lot of factors.

If the condo (building, amenities, actual unit, etc) is well-maintained and in good condition, plus ok ang location, then you might be able to sell the unit at a premium vs dun sa acquisition cost.

Yes sis my parents bought a condo before nung mga HS pa lang kami and sakto prime yung location pinaparent namin sya minsan and sobrang okay sa income. Don't know lang with mom and dad kung may plano ba sila ibenta yun

Parang baliktad yata. Kasi we have a condo now coz we cannot afford a house yet.  A house is definitely more expensive than a condo. What is she talking about?

You can have a nice condo for 10M. However, I think I need 20M to afford a nice house in a nice village.

Mas mahal naman kasi talaga ang H&L compare sa condo. Ganun din balak ko pag nagka family na start small muna then ipon for the H&L

At the end of the day, it all depends on the kind of lifestyle that you want to have, and more importantly, what you can afford.

Who wouldn't want to own a house and lot that you can pass on to your future kids and grandkids. Pero the problem is, can you afford to buy a HL comfortably sized,  conveniently located near your work place in the metro (in my case), and with a nice quiet neighborhood? Maybe, kung madami kang money. Or maybe you can afford a HL comfortably sized pero outside metro manila naman or a ways from where you work, maiipit ka sa traffic or baha (seasonally) or maybe magbabayad pa ng toll. Or HL sa metro near your work (walking distance pa nga) pero cramped and tucked in a not so nice/quiet neighborhood and quite pricey pa.

All these i can only say based on my preferences and experience in house hunting so i can't say the same for the others. So... In the end, my fiance and I also opted to buy a condo since mas accommodating yung payment terms and it'll provide us a good and comfortable home for the time being habang maliit pa family namin. We chose one that's conveniently located in Makati and with very nice amenities. A bit pricery, pero ayaw namin magskimp dahil kami din  naman titira dun. In the future, pag makakakuha kami ng HL if budget permits, our condo will be a good investment na rin.

I think because of poor infrastructure like roads and highways kaya nauso ang condominium.  Its because of the the time spent on roads (not the mention the hassle of travelling) kaya even if you live in not so far places (laguna and cavite isn't that far for me) the drive is too cumbersome. 

But if the roads were built well and the traffic isn't so bad, even if I live in batangas with my huge house and lot (mura kasi lote sa probinsha)and the travel to city will be an hour or 30 minutes via train or car,  I wouldn't want to live in a small spaced condo.  Unfortunately, because of the traffic problem, i don't want to waste my time on the road kaya i prefer condo better.

I totally agree with you sis xtine. Had we have better road access and sewage/canal system, i also wouldn't mind the travel kasi minimal traffic jam and flood.

Pero since we want a convenient life in the city near our work na makakaiwas sa baha at long commute/drive, pinipilit ko isiksik ang sarili ko sa city kaya i embraced vertical living  :P

It's really a combination of a lot of factors, not just the roads. There's just simply too many people that want to live in metro manila (especially near CBD's) because of the concentration of work opportunities & convenient living na din, and there's only so much land na pwedeng tirahan ng tao or tayuan ng  businesses.

I totally agree with you sis xtine. Had we have better road access and sewage/canal system, i also wouldn't mind the travel kasi minimal traffic jam and flood.

Pero since we want a convenient life in the city near our work na makakaiwas sa baha at long commute/drive, pinipilit ko isiksik ang sarili ko sa city kaya i embraced vertical living 

Was your experience bad? or hindi naman? Lots of people kasi disagree to vertical living eh pero para sa akin, I don't see nothing wrong with making your life easier.

Just imagining what it would be like should i decide to work kung san malayo mula sa bahay, be it commute or personal na sasakyan, parang di ko kakayanin.

I live in Vito Cruz ext, BTW. Just a few steps bordering makati. I used to work along ayala avenue, though now around mabini harison na work place ko.

I have attended several interviews in ortigas and libis, sadyang di ko lang talaga kya siguro yung mahabang biyahe or maarte lang talaga ako :p

Back then sa Angono, Rizal pa ako nanggagaling papuntang work sa Ayala. Everyday I have to wake up ng 4 am to prepare things. At 3 hours ang nasasayang ko bumiyahe kasama na ang time ng pagpila sa UV Express. Then nalipat kami sa Acacia Estates sa property ng DMCI Homes medyo malapit na lang. Nakakapayat ang ganoon lifestyle. Nangayayat kaya ako :p We don't deserve na mangarag sa kakabiyahe mga sis. Dapat lagi tayong maganda

Iiksi ang buhay natin pag ganun. Kung di man sa pagod at polusyon sa commute or sa stress mo sa traffic.

Kidding aside, it's really a trade off of a lot factors. Nasa tao na talaga yun, kung alin dun sa mga yun ang mas binibigyang weight nya on her decision to buy H/L or condo.

on our 2nd home (or investment) definitely House and Lot na kukunin namin.
