Pros and Cons of Living in a Condominium against living in a house

^Agree with you.  The purpose buying condo for me is comfort for myself.  My parents have their own home and just love living within the vicinity of a vibrant community of malls, shopping centers

Number 1 reason ko of staying in a condo and leaving the house ay yung location ng condo na malapit lang sa work ko. Isa pa yung reason na malapit lang siya sa malls and all.

I'd say condo for me. Convenience and location will trump everything else for me, esp. in Metro Manila. I'd rather adjust to living in a small space than waste half my life sitting in traffic. A 30minute+ commute per day is just no way to live, IMO.

And living in a small place also has a lot of benefits - less stuff, you really think about what you need and less time and energy wasted in upkeep.

The biggest 'con' of condo living for me are the rules, and the potential neighbors.

I find the whole "50 years lang" ang condo corp argument largely immaterial, hindi naman ako tititra sa isang lugar ng 50 years. Even if I buy a house, there is simply no way I will live in it for 50 years. In fact, there is simply no way that I will live in one house/building for more than 10 years.

Anyways, the way I see it, we'll be slowly upgrading our space depending on how large our family gets, and once the kids leave home naman, you will no longer need a big space.

I also don't subscribe to the Pinoy style of 'pamana ng bahay' (tama ba ang Tagalog go?) I don't buy a home with the expectation of turning it over to my kids in the future. I'd rather make sure they get the necessary life skills so they are able to buy their own, using their own money, earned through their own sweat and blood.

I agrre with the idea that they have to earn their own money and buy their own house. Sa panahon ngayon karamihan nang kabataan would rather live independently and earn everything they want in life, if I'd go for a house or a condo man I won't think of the idea na kailangan ko syang maipamana.

Oo ganun din sa akin. Samin nga pinabayaan kami ng mom na mag ipon ng sariling money to purchase unit and so. We learned and so ngayon ang pinag iipunan ko naman ay yung future thingies for example kasal, having children and a house. And ganun din ang gagawin ko sa mga magiging anak ko in the future. Let them earn their own money to buy their own unit or house.

^Totally agree. Imagine yung normal commute mo na for example 15-30mins e inaabot ng 1-2hours dahil sa traffic? Grabe sobrang sayang time!

^Exactly. I work in BGC and distance-wise, it's really supposed to be just 25 minutes away from our house in Marcos Highway pero it usually takes me an hour or sometimes more pa depending on my work schedule. The condo unit that we purchased and currently waiting for turn over is in Pasig so makakabawas sa paghihirap ko sa pagdrive everyday.

^Why didn't you purchase a condo unit sa Taguig or sa BGC na din mismo, yung 25 mins mo malamang nun mga 5 mins to 10 mins na lang.

@twelvth_goddess, oo nga sana sa bgc ka na lang din kumuha ng unit. Ang daming condo doon. Nako wala na talagang hassle kung doon ka kumuha ng unit. Happy happy pa, pwede ka munang mag ikot ikot before going home without yhinking so much about your time kasi dun lang din ang home mo. right?

we have a family of 4 and have recently moved to our new home (with garden hehe).sa cavite kami nakakuha and im currently working in bgc. maswerte ako that i have my loving hubby that can drive me to and from work everyday. pero siguro kung commute lang ako, i would definitely agree na pumili na lang ng condo near work kasi overkill ang traffic everyday. but, if you can find a work na malapit sa nabilihan niyong house, let say work somewhere in alabang kung sa south ang house, i think thats a win win for your family. iba ang feeling na everyday natutulog kayong including your kids sa sarili niyong rooms and beds. sa condo kasi, normally ang setup parents lang nasa room tapos sa ang living room nagiging bedroom ng kids at/or yaya pag gabi. hirap yang setup na yang lalo pag lumalaki na ang mga kids diba?

BGC condos are so expensive. Yung 3M na 2-bedroom namin is just a studio in BGC.

for us, house pa din with a garden esp now that we have 2 young kids na..gusto ko pa naman meron silang sariling room, mahirap kasi pag medyo limited space...i know meron naman malalaking condo units din, pero karamihan ng affordable units maliliit ang cut..good thing is, the traffic situation here in cebu is not as bad compared to metro manila kaya walang problema kahit medyo malayo ang house sa workplace ng husband ko...my husband's family owns a 1-br unit in metro manila but no one really stays there..it only serves as a temporary shelter whenever a member of the family goes to manila, instead of staying in a hotel.

While condos are wise for an investment, it's not ideal for permanent residence. For one, it is not perfect for raising your family. It lasts 50 yrs Lang, the government has to take it down, so you are left with nothing. Kung paparent mo for additional income, best idea! But to live there and spend over a million pesos for a small space, sayang. You can check from bank branches for foreclosed properties you can buy. With land and title pa. Just saying sis. But if you are a millionaire, why not

^ayan na naman yang 50 years reason kuno. I think you should read more about it than feed people here with a half-truth. Half kasi you are right but as mentioned before here, may dalawang klase and one is perpetual ownership wherein after 50 years you and the rest of the owners can sell the lot and since usually condos are built in prime areas, malaki ang worth ng property. Now, it is up to the buyer to be diligent in looking for a perpetual ownership type of condo. This is material info kasi for would be condo buyers. Kawawa naman ang mga agent sa half truth info na to. Also, lumalabas na parang di na pinag isipan ng mga condo buyers basta bumili na lang when most are well educated yung nakatira esp. in our condo.

BTW, sasagutin ko lang yung previous na tumira dito sakin..FYI, we also have our own H/L which is nearby lang din from our condo but we prefer to stay sa condo pa din. It's not like everyone of us here have been born into a condo LOL, syempre lahat nakaranas tumira sa house and lot..  was just replying to this thread's title and I prefer a condo. We all have our likes and dislikes and preference and I respect everyone's preference. No need to make tira or siraan ang bawat isa. We just have to stick with facts and the LAW.

Not true naman. This current condo we're living in is more than 50 years old. It is well-maintained. No reason for it to be taken down. We actually bought this unit about 4 years ago pa lang. We still decided to buy it despite its age kasi nakita naman namin na well-maintained ang structure. Dito din papasok ang quality ng bibilhing condo. If hindi ok ang developer, baka 20 years lang gumuho na ang building.

And I actually like this condo better than the other condo we have na nasa 7-8 years old pa lang (mid-rise condo). Ok din naman yun, but older condos kasi are generally more spacious (high ceiling, bigger floor area, etc). Most of the newly-developed condos kasi are medyo cramped na. Sinusulit kasi ng developer yung space para mas madaming units na mabenta.

Between house and condo, it'll also depend on your lifestyle. Right now, we live in a condo kasi bagay sa lifestyle namin. Nung wala pa kami helpers, whenever we travel, we just lock up and leave. Secured ang vacant unit namin kahit months pa kami mawala. Most of what we need are nearby (church, good schools, nice malls, restos, supermarket, reputable hospitals, etc). Whenever me kelangan ayusin or patingnan sa unit, isang tawag lang sa admin/maintenance, anjan na ang electrician/plumber/carpenter/janitor or whoever you need. Very convenient location. Round-the-clock security. Gated and secure compound.

If we buy a house & lot in the area we live now, jusko, baka abutin ng php20M, for a modest-sized one lang. Sobrang mahal.

Eventually, when we're ready to retire and have a quiet environ, perhaps that's when we'll move to a house & lot. We are saving up for it of course. We'll see when that time comes. Baka kasi mas gustuhin pa din namin na malapit sa conveniences na nakasanayan. So pag nagkataon, we might settle for a townhouse in a still central location. Cheaper than a house&lot, but more stable than a condo.

Siguro dahil they both love the rural type of living. Nabobored kasi sila pag walang kapitbahay na nakikita, walang garden, etc. Kaya pag may opportunity na kami, I'd rather buy our own house
