Pros and Cons of Living in a Condominium against living in a house

Hahaha, hindi naman siguro bitter yung mga may ayaw sa condo. Yung argument siguro na limited ang useful life ng building. Unlike a house na kapag nagiba, meron kang land na pwedeng mapagtirikan ulit ng property.

Sa akin naman, if I get to make the most out of a condo for 10 to 20 years, I think I got my money's worth na din. Because time and sleep is more important to me. I started working 10 years ago, and yung mga condo na nakatirik around the area I worked at, nakatayo pa din naman.

It just so happened din na I don't care about land (that may also lose its value or livability).

Mas important sakin to grow myself and na meron akong liquid assets or cash na nakatabi, which is my idea of security. You'll always find a place to live in basta marunong kang gumawa ng pera and meron kang pambayad ng rent.

I tottally agree with you rae. At the end of the day, living in a condo or in a H&L all depends to you. It's your money, It's your decision.

I prefer houses than condos because of the spacious living area. And iba talaga pag bahay eh, hindi lang yung physical structure ang naiisip ko, pati na rin the people I'm living with Happier at home than staying in a condo.

I'd stil prefer a house over a condo unit. parang lugi kasi sa condo.. yung unit lang ang nabibili mo pero un parking space forever ka na magbabayad at tumataas pa ng singil. plus un mga association dues pa, madami pa rules and regulations na dapat sundin.. and un ibang condo kasi, sa una lang maganda pero after ilang years naluluma na un building at facilities tapos hindi na mine-maintain nun may ari..pinababayaan na lang. atleast pag bahay mo, maluma man, anytime pede mo iparenovate.

Ang daming factors to consider when choosing between a condo or a house. We are currently living in a condo ng DMCI Homes sa Acacia Estates. The reason is that yung location sa work area namin is malapit , second is yung budget. Mas afford namin siya compared to a house.

i agree sis! Ang daming nagsasabi na social climber daw ang mga nagcocondo na kumukuha lang ng unit para maging in pero wala namang pambayad...

^Yan ang isa pang no no. Madalas nga ganyan ang tingin ng mga tao kapag ka bumili ng condo, they'll say you are trying so hard to 'fit-in' or to 'social-climb'. Eh papano kung bumili siya ng condo dahil malapit yun sa work niya and hindi niya afford ang bahay. Hindi komo bumili siya ng condo at di niya PA afford ibig sabihin nun social-climber na siya, siguro sa ngayon di niya afford pero alam niya na in time makakaluwag din siya. Sino ba naman ang kukuha ng condo na hindi niya kayang bayaran, para namang, kumuha siya ng bato na ipupukpok sa ulo niya. hahaha

Live in a nice house. I can have my own garage, backyard, rooftop there. I like hosting house parties so a condo unit won't suffice.

Yung condo parang temporary na pagstay lang or investment property through rentals lang. I cant imagine myself living in a condo unit for a lifetime.

If I have a choice, I would rather live in a house in a quiet village somewhere. Living in a condo for over 8 years now. Nakailang lipat na din kami. Tiis muna kasi dito sa Manila ang work ni hubby. Hayy!

I am aiming to own a condo, at least before i turned 24 or 25. My problem is my mom told me, owning a house is better. pero i dont think she'd want me to have my own house while im still single. lagi nya kasing sinasabi na yung husband to be ko daw dapat ang bumili ng house for us. hahaha.

Back on topic: I'd rather live in a nice condo while im single but i preferred a house for my family. :>

Super agree sister. Kasi naman pati we MUST just share our opinion but we MUS NOT condemn yung opinion ng iba. Righty? If gusto nila sa condo then so be it kung house then let them be.


For me, right choice kung may pamilya ka na ang bahay pero pala kung nagsisimula pa lang kayo like siguro bagong kasal okay ang condo. Sa akin ngayon di pa naman ako kasal, so condo ang akin. Tsaka ayan nga kung ikakasal na ako e baka condo pa rin muna since mag iipon muna for a house.

Agree ako mga sis, it is case to case basis at depende sa circumstances and it shouldn't be used as a gauge of someone's wealth. I used to work before sa Manila while living in Rizal area, I used to leave our house at 5:30AM and arrived at 10-11PM daily. Sobrang hirap lalo na kung maulan. Those were the time I wished I live nearby our office. I am now working overseas and is staying at a flat, while my family settles in a H & L inside a quite subdivision.

Personally I really prefer living in a house and lot compared to a tiny condo (sure merong malalaking condo units but it also costs a fortune). If there Is one thing I enjoy the most sa house namin is the garden. Super nakakarelax at nakakawala ng stress. We have an outdoor  wooden swing where we used to spend our usual pinoy almusal (pandesal and kape) after magjogging around the subdivision at tuwing hapon, my daughters love to play around with their puppy. Iba pati kasi ang fulfillment na makita mo ang pinaghirapan mo na matatawag mong sayo lang at hindi ka nakikihati. In addition sa privacy issues at hindi ka restricted kung ano gusto mo gawin sa house mo.

We are also considering owning/renting  a condo pero para sa mga kids namin kapag nag aral na sila sa college and while working.

PS. I remember Sir CH shared an article in another thread about a study wherein domestic violence are prevalent to those who are living in small spaces.

The corporations have a lifespan of 50 years. The physical building, however, doesn't follow that same concept. In effect, condominium corporation ends after 50 years of incorporation, but that doesn't mean that your condo unit would be taken away from you.
If your corporation, however, decides to sell the entire building after 50 years due to the conditions stated in Section 8c of the Condominium Act, then physically the unit would be taken from you, but you are entitled to your share of the income from the sale.

Really? So after 50 years ay may possibility talaga na mawala sayo ang unit mo kung ibenta ng kumpanya yung building pero may makukuha ka pa din naman.. Hindi naman din kasi pang habang buhay yung pag stay sa condo ee.. Pansamantala lang yun kaya nga dapat habang nakatira ka sa condo nag iipon ka na for a house para kung magka pamilya ka na or sapat na ipon mo you can move out na to live in a house..

house.  i don't know if it has been raised in the thread, but, ang building may life lang.  parang 50 years ata.  after its expiry, paano ang ownership? i've no idea paano yun mga ganun pero ang alam ko may length of time lang ang condo. at least ang bahay, kahit mag depreciate, sayo pa rin ang lupa.  I have a condo for investment purposes only. I bought it 5 years ago (never lived in it, had it rented out) and now selling it.

^ yes it's a little known fact. Lots of people think na owning a condo means having it for just 50 years when in fact hindi naman at all. You also have to take note that there are two types of condo ownership. Lease ownership, which up to 50 years lang and perpetual ownership which is explained above

I'd say condo for me. Convenience and location will trump everything else for me, esp. in Metro Manila. I'd rather adjust to living in a small space than waste half my life sitting in traffic. A 30minute+ commute per day is just no way to live, IMO.

And living in a small place also has a lot of benefits - less stuff, you really think about what you need and less time and energy wasted in upkeep.

The biggest 'con' of condo living for me are the rules, and the potential neighbors.

I find the whole "50 years lang" ang condo corp argument largely immaterial, hindi naman ako tititra sa isang lugar ng 50 years. Even if I buy a house, there is simply no way I will live in it for 50 years. In fact, there is simply no way that I will live in one house/building for more than 10 years.

Anyways, the way I see it, we'll be slowly upgrading our space depending on how large our family gets, and once the kids leave home naman, you will no longer need a big space.

I also don't subscribe to the Pinoy style of 'pamana ng bahay' (tama ba ang Tagalog go?) I don't buy a home with the expectation of turning it over to my kids in the future. I'd rather make sure they get the necessary life skills so they are able to buy their own, using their own money, earned through their own sweat and blood.
