I'm living in a condo right now. And so far I'm enjoying it kasi I always wanted to live independently and syempre malapit sa work ko  :D

Yes, that's right. I'd rather go down at magihaw sa baba than pausukan yung kapitbahay ko. Ayoko din kasi na ginagawa yun sakin. Glden rule nga diba  ;)

it depends on the location/area and one's lifestyle.

i've lived in both and my preference will always be a house.  not a fan of shared walls and common roofs  and being at the mercy of an HOA in a condo.  those fees are not regulated. if a lot of units go on foreclosure,  the remaining tenants are stuck with having to maintain a certain amount to keep the complex going.

at least in the part of the country where i live,  houses maintain their values more than condos.   there is also HOA with some tract/newly developed communities but not as outrageous as condo fees.

Condo is a waste of money, in my opinion. I want a backyard for my kid where he can play.

I think it depends on your current situation and current needs.

Kami ng husband ko, of course we want a single detached house and lot. Pero we don't want to sacrifice location kaya we decided to buy a condo na muna then save for a house in the same location. Hindi pa kasi namin afford for now ang house and lot dito sa area namin. In the future, we can sell the condo or have it rented kapag ready na kami to buy a house.

Important kasi sa amin ang time. We want na malapit sa office para we don't waste time sa traffic. I can't imagine losing 3hrs everyday sa traffic. Quality time na sana yun spent with your kids.

Also, marami nang condos na may sariling park area and magandang amenities. Just choose one from a reputable developer para alam mo na ma-maintain ng maayos.

ang daming "bitter" sa condo dito LOL. If I know, super inggit lang kayo and deep down you wish to also AFFORD one. If not, why on earth would you diss people who have it?! Deny it you want but it shows in the "jealous" sweeping generalization.

Actually, I can afford to buy a condo right now but I'd rather rent than to own one. I prefer a house even if it's an older one. There's more freedom you get from owning your own house and lot.

I dont think owning a condo unit should be/is a standard/basis/sign of wealth.

No, it would depend on the total cost needed.

For condos, you need to consider the price of the unit and the monthly fees etc. to gauge this. For H&Ls, price of the property, maintenance costs, annual tax etc. for it.

Merong mga condo na mura lang at meron na mas mahal pa kesa bahay sa mga exclusive villages. Same for H&Ls so it really depends.

Hahaha, hindi naman siguro bitter yung mga may ayaw sa condo. Yung argument siguro na limited ang useful life ng building. Unlike a house na kapag nagiba, meron kang land na pwedeng mapagtirikan ulit ng property.

Sa akin naman, if I get to make the most out of a condo for 10 to 20 years, I think I got my money's worth na din. Because time and sleep is more important to me. I started working 10 years ago, and yung mga condo na nakatirik around the area I worked at, nakatayo pa din naman.

It just so happened din na I don't care about land (that may also lose its value or livability).

Mas important sakin to grow myself and na meron akong liquid assets or cash na nakatabi, which is my idea of security. You'll always find a place to live in basta marunong kang gumawa ng pera and meron kang pambayad ng rent.

The "bitter" reference is to the person who specifically said in the previous page that condos are a WASTE of time. And, it is a standard of wealth because after all, for such a small area, you are paying millions plus the dues. By any standard, a million+ plus dwelling is a standard/basis of wealth. I am just straight forward about it.

Not sure if you were referring to me. You could have just quoted me instead. There's nothing to be scared about. But I think I said waste of money, not time. So maybe it's not me.

It's a waste of money because the value depreciate faster than a regular house. You have to pay monthly condo fees aside from the mortgage. Come to think of it, you don't really own it when you buy one. You own everything that is inside but not the outside. I have a co-worker that lives in a condo and he himself finds it frustrating. There's a condo building in the city where I live where the owners forced to cough up thousand of dollars because the homeowner's association (or whatever you call that) decided to upgrade the exterior of the building (walls, windows, doors, paint, etc). If you have a bad neighbor, you can't just move out of the property. You have to sell it first.

In my opinion, buying one is a good investment but not for primary dwelling unless the benefits outweighs the risks. I do not see that much of a benefit for me, who is not a millionaire, to own one. A house and lot is still the best option, if I will buy a property. But because of the hot housing market in Alberta, I can't afford it.

I don't give a rats behind about what is the standard of wealth. I don't care about who are the haves and the have nots. I care about my bank account and my pocket and what benefits me. Clear?

kung para sa ibang tao ang pagtira or pagbili ng condo is a waste of money, then so  be it, eh sa ayaw nila eh

at kung para naman sa mga prefer nila eh condo, then so be it din, ganun talaga eh, it's a matter of lifestyle talaga eh...

and i think hindi fair na gawing standard of wealth ang pagkakaron ng condo

lived in a house (in an upper middle class location) all my life and recently moved to a condo close to my family home. The condo is a middle market property, not like Serendra or One Greenbelt. I must say that I enjoy both, the space and flexibility of a house appeals to me plus I get to own a land but being a couple who travels a lot, a condo fits our lifestyle perfectly. It's spacious enough for us and small enough not to need a maid. Plus we don't have to worry about security when we are in a condo whereas you have to hire security for your house.

it all depends on your stage in life, your financial capability and your lifestyle. There is nothing wrong with either 2 or one is better than the other.

I also know of affluent families where the elderly couple would move to a condo since all the children have married and have their own families. They also appreciate that there are no stairs and the risk of slipping and falling are minimized.
