Pros and Cons of Living in a Condominium against living in a house

I've been residing in a condo for four years now. I have no family with me, no kids, just a small dog for companionship.

Ang perks mga sis eh number one yung security, secondary na lang yun amenities.. yung may gym, pool, convenience store, court, cabanas na just a few steps away sa unit. Tsaka malamig sa mata kasi well maintained talaga yun landscape. At may in house technician, plumber, janitor, etc for a fee. Basically, thats all.

Ang namimiss ko naman yung malawak na napapaglaruan ng aso ko. Indoor dog kasi sya, ayaw nya mamasyal sa labas. Mahirap din magpapunta ng friends kasi kulang sa guest parking. Hindi ako makapag garden, makapagvideoke, makapag DIY trip. Nakakatamad magluto. And may association dues (approx 6k/mo) para din nagrent sa labas. Nasisikipan pati ako hehe diba sa province, malalaki ang pitak ng lupa. Maporma lang tignan ang condo but if i were to choose, mas masaya ako sa bahay na may malaking garden.

If not for the security, my parents would've considered a house for me instead. Wala kasi ako kasama eh. Tapos i look young pa, mahirap na.

^have you heard of any condo na nagka fire and consumed the entire building or even floors from it in a long while?? have you heard also from the news na almost everyday may sunog sa mga bahay bahay dyan, and take note di lang sa mga depressed areas nangyayari yan.

FYI, condo units have smoke detectors and have sprinklers in every room. Tenants are also required to have a fire extinguisher. It's not fool proof of course but at least merong proactive contigency.

This is harsh advice but I hope people here should refrain from assuming things and then recommend based from it. For example, if you've never lived in a condo, (kahit pa sabihing you visit your friends, iba pa din yung dun ka naakatira), don't assume things and then compare it with your experiences from living in a house and lot. I have lived on both and the only thing talaga that is the disadvantage that i can think of in living in a condo is the "fear, imagined or real, of earthquakes" other than that wala na akong masabi, mas maganda talaga ang condo living. I'm loving every minute of it. It is so worry free well aside from quakes nga but after a while you get used to the idea.

^Tama ka diyan sis Kristalle. Kahit ako ang ikinatatakot ko ay earthquakes. That's one of the reasons why nung una I don't like living in a condo. Pero ito nga my mom insisted so ito sa condo kami nakatira. Yung fear ko about earthquakes ay medyo na wash away ng magandang stay ko dito. And also trust trust lang kay God if ever lumindol, di niya tayo pababayaan

And with a house, you're not safe with earthquakes din. I work in a high-rise building and an earthquake can strike while I'm there. Hindi pipili yung earthquake kung kelan ka nasa bahay/condo or nasa office or nasa skyway.

Since Milenyo, Ondoy, etc. I realized that assurance is a myth. And yung old belief na di nawawalan ng value ang lupa is questionable. There have been house and lots na nawalan ng value, inabot hanggang bubong, etc. And people died inside their houses.

Both options have risks. So dun tayo sa risk that we're more willing to swallow or dun sa benefit that is more important to us.

A house can also succumb to an earthquake if built with poor materials/foundation so it's not necessarily safer. A house can also experience flooding, at least in a condo you know you will never experience flooding (unless your neighbor busts a pipe). Case in point, my aunt's first floor was entirely flooded during Ondoy and in the 20+ years she has lived there it has never flooded before.

I've lived in a house all my life and moved into a condo when I got married. I have to say I do love the convenience. We have round the clock maintenance for any repairs needed. For water and gas, I just call our guard. I'm at the center of major establishments.

I would love to move into a house one day in the future but it would have to be in a nice area or exclusive village to convince me to move out.

I think this depends if you're living alone or family with 1 kid lang. Pero kung big family kayo, dapat house. Condo (high-end) if you're living alone kasi it's secured and may maintenance na assigned in case nagkaproblem sa unit mo.

And by the way, if you're worrying about earthquakes. High-rise structures in Metro Manila and other urban centers are now designed to withstand earthquakes up to magnitude seven. New buildings are now quake-proof.

lateral movements, yes i acknowledge the japanese has solved that riddle to a huge extent.

but up and down movement? Nope. wala pang nakakasolve niyan.

the next question din naman is, how good did Filipino engineers apply those anti earthquake measures.

we all know pinoys love to skip procedures and lots of developers don't even consult geologists.

I'd rather live in a condo. Ngayon nga sa condo ako nakatira. Da best naman ang amenities. Okay din ang location cause malapit lang sa work ko. Balak ko pa ngang bumili pa ng isang unit. Hehe Mas gusto ko sa condo kasi nga ayan malapit sa work ko and also yung amenity na di mo makukuha sa siguro mga 3 milyong pisong bahay.

But yes you're right that this is for vertical movement only. Pag naman yung up and down kahit anong infrastructure hindi na siguro malakaligtas dun. What I'm saying is, high rise buildings now are somehow designed for earthquakes. I'm not saying that's it's perfectly safe.

Agree, naeenjoy ko din yung amenities and very convenient. Yun lang, medyo magastos din kasi may association dues pa binabayaran. Bawal din sa amin mag grill and gas stove. Though yung ibang condos yata pwede.

Dun sa isang condo namin, electric grill gamit namin, basta make sure lang kami na di aabot sa smoke detector yung usok hehe. Di rin pwede ang gas stove so electric stove nilagay namin..

Sa tinitirhan naming condo now, me designated grill area so dun nag-iihaw. Paunahan nga lang kasi 4 pits lang yata yun. Pero madalang naman yung madaming nakakasabay mag-ihaw so keribels lang. Allowed din ang mga gas ranges so oks na oks.
