I'm just guesing ha, pero I guess dahil sa name? Kasi I read in a financial magazine how Fitness First has all these stocks in the market or something... Tsaka may trainer ba ang non-membership gyms?

^Try to visit the gyms so you'll know the difference. For example, Slimmers is cheap but doesnt have a sauna unlike FF or Gold's. FF has platinum accounts-wherein you dont need to bring anything, sila na nagpoprovide ng workout clothes mo.

Kung simpleng gym lang, baka yung treadmill, elliptical walang tv, hot/cold water for shower, etc.

for trainers naman, for me lang ha (siguro dahil snob *daw* ako), snob sila.

^agree on the other extras like the sauna, pool, showers, lockers, basketball/volleyball court, outdoor spinning/cycling machines/ boxing studio, possibly may trainers din na nakaalalay sayo

Additionally, there's a chance that more expensive gyms have studios na nag-ho-hold ng classes within a day.

Pero kung ako lang pipili, I prefer a gym na walking distance lang from our house whether high-end pa or basic lang. Right now our gym has all the above mentioned pero naman swerte na makapunta kami weekly dahil binabyahe pa namin siya about 16 km na travel.

medyo malayo din yan sis ha! ako i prefer yung mas malapit lang din sa bahay kahit na sosyal or hindi ang gym ill go for it na...for now dito lang ako sa gym na simple lang  malapit sa min 1 ride lang ang distance ayoko kasi ng malayo naiisip ko pa lang gano kalayo ibabyahe ko tinatamad na ko...ang importante lang naman for me is yung makapag work out ng maayus i dont need those extra sauna or anything na.

^agree, sa haba ng byahe eh gutom na gutom na ko after a workout, we end up eating out tuloy. I barely get to use the facilities kasi feeling ko kalahating araw na ko sa gym minsan. Although syempre madalas fun siya, specially if may dala kong guest. Feeling ko nasa Clubhouse ako. =)

I've seen different gyms and honestly iba iba talaga sila. Here's my review
Slimmers world - maliit and siksikan though maraming gamit, hindi rin masyadong malinis.
Feedback ng mga friends ko kapag prime time ang baho daw super amoy pawis.  ;D Fee 1000 for 2months not sure if nagtaas na.
Gold's gym - I've seen 2 of their gym the 1st is Hotel Intercontinental maliit, cute, homey ang dating, konti lang ang machines.  2nd is Glorietta branch malaki, nakakahilo, pero complete ang equipments. Fee around 1800 if I have not mistaken.
Fitness First - been to 4 clubs since I'm a member of this. Lahat ng napuntahan ko malinis, complete sa equipments, may sauna, steam bath and aerobics, yoga, dancing classes. Maraming PT na makukulit. My fee 2100 per month. Regular fee is 2700 na yata.
Diamond Hotel Fitness Center - small gym but nandun mga ginagamit ko na machines sa fitness first, indoor and outdoor jacuzzi, swimming pool, sauna, steam bath. Fee DH membership 5500. Fitness Center membership 12000 total of 17500 per annum. They provide towels also.

Marami pa akong napuntahan yung iba not worth to remember dahil ang dumi and yung tipong mauuntog ka sa next na machine dahil sobrang siksikan.

If I will choose a gym siyempre 1st dapat pasok sa budget pero dapat malinis kasi baka may surot diba or mga loko yung mga kasama mo dun mahirap na. I'm thinking of switching to DH kasi mas mura siya compared to fitness first and halos same way lang since sa Robinsons Ermita ako nagwowork out.  ;D

it depends on what you need sis. if you  need all those saunas, etc. then go for it.

if you're creative a simple gym would do. In some countries there are gyms that negate using machines. and yet its patrons are still fit.

for me, i'd rather have a simple gym, than a gym na maganda pero puro sosyalan lang at payabangan. if you can find a good gym na maraming seryoso mag train, then go.

i don't mind talking to people during breaks or after workouts pero some people are just so mayabang that they should not be going to the gym.

The equipment will always be different in expensive gyms. They always have the newer, imported and more well maintained equipment.
Cheaper gyms usually have locally made weights or second hand equipment.

maintenance also suffers in cheaper gyms.

the price difference is really big though, but if you can go for the more expensive ones, it's a huge difference.

^true, but i beg to disagree in some points. FF is an expensive gym but in my opinion, their equipment is inadequate for some training routines like strength training.  their free weights area needs improvement definitely. i find Gold's better in this area though FF has an immense collection of exercise machines. Eclipse is way better when it comes to free weights.

before sa cheap gyms lang ako yung tipong 350-450 per month ang membership at may promo pa yan na free 1 month kapag naka 3 months ka. hehe!

okay naman, kasi ang habol ko lang dun is free weights at bike machine.  siyempre dont expect towel service, lockers, sauna, pool,  a/c,  shower room and other amenities.

dito sa abroad, nagavail ako ng medyo sosyal na gym membership. equivalent of 2,4 per month sa pinas.  tho di ko naman kelangan ng mga fancy stair machine or other exercise machines, [im a free-weight person] okay na rin  kasi spacious, clean, may a/c at ang pinaka important ay yung pool which makes most of my cardio.

medyo mahal for a gym pero ganun din kasi ang price kung magd-downgrade ako at magavail ng pool sa ymca. same lang pag cinombine. :)

i had only enrolled once, its an exclusive gym for employees of our hospital, ok naman siya 900 monthly, may locker room, hot/cold water sa shower, things like that. free din yoga, dancing and boxing lessons. trainers are very good too, we have p90x and trx too. wala lang sauna. but then its all good plus its exclusive. mga students at co employees lang kasama mo.

I've never been to low end gyms kase first gym ever ko ang Fitness First but I guess these are some of the differences:

1. Expensive gyms have newer and better equipments. They change the equipments before they need to be changed. Like sa FF, they recently changed the treadmills kahit ok pa naman sila. Well-maintained pati kase malinis and hinde amoy maasim dahil sa tagaktak ng pawis.

2. FF has free drinks.

3. Expensive gyms offer a variety of classes. They also have additional facilities like sauna room.

Yung mga payabangan sa gym, kebs ako jan kase I either work out alone or go with my hubby. I dont chitchat with other people there kase hinde ako makakapag-concentrate. I know some people who go to the gym na super japorms and even with make up, nakakaloka eh pagpapawisan ka lang naman don.

same here, I also work out alone. buti na lang ganun din yun mga members ng gym na pinupuntahan ko. we know each other by face, nod and smile lang with each other, pero buti na lang walang maingay na mahilig magkwentuhan ng malakas. gym time is my me-time.  :)

cheap vs. expensive gym..?

well you get what you paid for.

I was a member of one cheap gym before sa Pins, mura lang monthly hindi ko na maalala kung magkanu. Pero after a month I stopped. I was not motivated. Shower rooms are regular, no shampoo or soaps, no towels. Few equipments, trainers are not available always, and 2 to 3 group classes lang.

Now Im a member of fitness first, mahal siya pero it will really motivates you. They provide towels (small and big), refreshments are available, theres shampoo and soap. You will have your own locker. Tapos complete amenities like swimming pool, sauna and gym equipment, tapos laging me pakulo, like bollywood classes, special classes, mge freebies. Marami tao pero hindi nauubusan ng equipment to use.  Dami ring classes kaya anytime of the day meron kan pwedeng atenan. SAbi nga nila, motivation keep you started but habit keeps u going (parang ganun hahaha).
