Kung qualified ma-accelerate anak nyo gugustuhin nyo ba?

pajoin.. My son kinder sya 1st time nya magschool. skipped prep and now in grade 3 at 7 1/2. Nagworry ako nung una kasi baka mapressure kasi from kinder na 3hrs lang ang class tapos bigla full load sya sa grade 1. Ok naman pala he adjusted well and was 5th honors nung gr 1 at 1st nung grade 2. Di naman sya nabubully kahit pa sya pinakamaliit. Infact lagi pa sya leader pag groupings. I guess nasa maturity at readiness din talaga ng bata yun at syempre support from the family.

he's in montesorri school, im sure napansin na yan ng mga teachers pero di naman daw nabibigla mga teachers, very good lang sinasabe. hehe. samantalang kami nag se-celebrate kada spell ni kuya. hehe.

so pano naman ang system ng pilipinas? per school lang ba ang criteria?

^pinkpotato, sa case nung cute little boy, if his parents choose to enroll him in a school covered by MOE by the time he is qualified to enter primary 1, he will go through the normal academic process.Kung consistent yung grades nya, he can take the Gifted Educated Program (GEP) in Primary 3. If he gets in GEP, he will get advance classes specific for GEP students.  Normally, they get invited to Direct School Admission (DSA) when they get to Primary 6.  Then, GEP and mainstream cohorts will all take the PSLE in Primary 6 and rank them. In singapore, your PSLE score will determine whether you will be qualified to the Express (higher PSLE score) or Normal stream.  If you qualify for express, your score will be ranked accdg. to the cut-off scores of secondary schools (normally well-known secondary schools require higher PSLE scores for students to get in).  Very demanding ang school life sa singapore because you are always ranked in reference to the entire student population.  Di pa ramdam ang competition sa primary level pero kung gusto mo to insure that your child gets in to NUS or Nanyang or RI, you have to plot your moves early on.

At this point with my sons case and recurring problem at school yes gugustuhin ko. After 4 months in kinder he's skipping the rest of the months na to prep. We found a school that would cater to his needs. He's going to be prepared na for grade1 next year.

Just to update lang, yung 8 yr old ko na pinasok ko sa grade 4 last June pinag grade 3 ko na this September. Sobrang big relief ang pakiramdam ko ngayon na hindi na kami pareho pressured. Kasi aside from changing schools he also changed from homeschool to traditional schooling so malakiing adjustment talaga. Dapat nung forst 2months pa lang nga pina grade 3 ko lang kung hindi lang nagpumilit hubby ko e

i was accelerated a couple of levels and normal pa naman ako ngayon problem ko nalang siguro nun when i was in kinder garten my classmates were 5-7yrs... madalas ako nabubully ng big girls and syempre medyo may separation anxiety pa kasi i skipped nursery, mejo nashock lang ako sa culture na iiwanan ni mommy, i had no idea about school then. ( i skipped playschool and nursery kasi i knew how to read and write na..) siguro nasanay naman na din ako after a few days. pero i had my own clique naman then with other kids na na accelerate din, mga 3-5 year olds ang cute lang baby barkada.

problem din nun siguro is i was 3 years old pero i was the most advanced na, i had personal/private lessons with my teacher.. i dont know why di ko pa naman naiintindihan nun pero i remember nasa 4th module na ako start palang ng other kids with their 1st module. siguro for parents na hindi masyadong pro sa pagaaral masyado ng younger kids nila na dapat play muna at that age and all, problem yun but for me di naman kasi i loved learning. guess depende din talaga sa bata.

after that, i had to move to a new school w/ better credentials na hindi nag-aaccelerate so balik kinder ako ulet, haha! mas madami na akong friends nun kasi magkaka-age kami

Hi, Ask ko lang paano ba proseso ng acceleration sa elementary...parents initiative ba o school.  Sa Deped ba exam o sa iskul lang ginagawa ang accelration exam.

^^as far as I know, walang government-based assessment for high ability or potentially gifted children dito.  If you want your child assessed, you have to look and shoulder for the expenses.  And even if your child is medically assessed to be advanced, it's not a guarantee that any school will accept and accelerate your child.

Karamihan ng acceleration depende sa school.  There are schools that would not accept a child below the age requirement (kahit sabihing alam na nung child yung curriculum content for that specific level). Yung iba naman, enough na yung nakapasa yung bata sa entrance test for that level. There are schools naman na open sa mga acceleration if you provide them with a medical assessment na advanced yung child. Walang standardized procedure dito sa atin.

In my son's case, he was assessed to be a high ability learner pero his school doesn't allow acceleration kaya he is in a level based on his age group. I don't entertain the idea of transferring him to a school that would allow acceleration (I already like the curriculum of his current school and I don't want to remove him 'coz happy naman sya sa present school nya)

My current priority is to provide him with enough stimulation and exposure para mas lalong madevelop yung skills nya (He has a creative personality, they're the ones who always like to explore and think out of the box, ayaw nya ng conventional, madaling ma-bore).  I don't get bothered if I hear that some children of the same age or below are in a higher level too, sabi nga nung neuro psychologist na nakausap ko mas importante na masustain ng anak ko yung abilities nya and to develop more abilities na kaya nyang ma-grasp with proper stimulation and exposure.

When my son had his interview for nursery, the interviewer at CSA asked us if we are interested for him to be in Senior Kinder instead of Nursery since his skills and IQ daw is qualified for that level. But his dad said no simply because we don't want to stress the kid.

I was accelerated twice when I was in school. First was from Nursery to Grade 1. Then 3rd year HS to First year college. I had a hard time adopting to college life knowing my classmates were older than me. Then there are some lessons that is quite hard for me kasi di naman lahat nadaanan ko yung level.

So I understand where my hubby is coming from. Ako nga nahirapan, syempre gusto namin ma enjoy ng bata yung school instead ma stress. Kaya for me NO rin kahit na sabihin na may matitipid ako sa TF kahit isang taon

^although some schools use the term "mass acceleration," actually, this is just a grade level adjustment brought about by a change in our school system set-up. Technically, grade acceleration is brought about by a child's unusual academic progression, which is usually faster than most in his age group or grade level.

if my dau can adapt and cope easily, and if she can adjust to her older classmates and hindi siya mahihirapan sa academics. why not. but, if given a chance na maaacelerate siya i will still gauge if she can, and will make sure to provide the best education for her like enrolling her to tutorial services para nakakasabay pa rin siya. right now, she's in pre nursery and inenroll ko siya sa tutorial for early reading to prepare her in the future na rin

^^agree! Kaya natatawa ko with others who proudly declare that their kids were "accelerated" because of k+12 when in fact it is just renaming of grade level labels.

My son is 5yo and now in kinder prep.meaning next SY ay grade1 na sya.Most of his classmates ay 6yo na..kaya tama lang ang age nya for his grade level..but his cognitive skills is quite advance for his age..his reading skills assessment done by the school showed that he can read @5th grade level though i personally know that his reading comprehension level is @grade 1-2 level only..@age 4, he can already add and subtract 2-digit numbers..and now he can multiply dahil paborito daw nya ang math subject..sa ibang subject naman like Filipino ay above average din ang performance nya..nananalo din sya sa academic competitions at lagi may award every quarter..pero pagdating sa social skills ay masasabi kong below average sya. Kahit na sabihin nya na nakikipaglaro sya sa ibang kaklase nya ay iniinsist ko sa kanya lagi na dapat lagi sya makipag-usap at makipaglaro sa kaklase nya.at kung may nang-aaway ay isumbong sa teacher o sabihin sakin..may nagsasabi sakin dati na dapat daw ipa-accelerate ko yun anak ko.pero ako naman alam kong hindi pwede.di naman paunahan ang edukasyon.Masaya na ako na nag-eexcel sya kahit papano.

Sa old school ng anak ko ay big deal sa mga nanay dun na naa-accelerate ang anak. Yun tipong 5yo pa lang ay grade 2 na.Di naman sa naiinggit ako, pero naiisip ko lang pano kung kaa-accelerate nila let say @9yo graduate na ng grade6 yun bata.tapos yun skul walang grade7. So need mo pa rin ilabas yun bata. May tattanggap kaya na grade7 na 9yo? hehe..

May dati ako officemate na may anak sya na pinaaccelerate kaya @7yo ay grade3 na. Pero hindi daw dahil academically advanced yun bata.gusto lang daw nila makatipid kaya pina-accelerate nya.pero nagsisisi na sya ngayon kasi nahihirapan daw yun anak nya s ibang subject na di pa akma sa age nya.at pag nagpapatulong sa kanila ay di naman nila matulungan.kaya yun grades nun anak nya ay puro average lang.

There are public elementary and high schools that has accelerated classes.. its a separate section and has a separate curiculum..  back in my elementary school at manila.. BARRIO OBRERO ELEMEMTARY SCHOOL.. they send out invitation letters to qualified students of grade 3 in nearby public schools mostly the top 10 pupils in the pilot section.. I remembered that the exams are mostly oral and logic.. the teacher would ask question and you give a quick answer.. it doesnt matter whether if its right or wrong, I think, cause they will base on how you will respond.. Sadly, I did not pass.. so I continued with the Regular Class..  My classmates who passed graduated a year early..

However, my younger brother passed the accelerated class when his time came.. they have a whole day class 6-4pm  and they have 2 sets of books for grade4 and grade5.. their classroom is also separated from the regular class.. its part of the SPED BLDG. He graduated a year early and finishd elementary in 5yrs.

TORRES HIGH SCHOOL in TONDO MANILA also offers accelerated class for high school.. Instead of 4yrs.. you will finish highschool in 3yrs... if you are smart enough to pass the qualifications they also have a special class program there..

But I am not sure if it is still in practise today, because of the change in curicullum about 10years ago and then now the k to12..

I'm really not sure if skipping k1 and k2 or toddler and nursery can be considered acceleration.. Because in our family we only attend nursery in a summer day care then at a public school for formal kinder then grade 1...  well in my case I have to repeat kinder because BOES doesnt want to accept me sa grade one even if i'm the 3rd honor in another public school, because age was still an issue back then.. I was just 5 turning 6 that time and they are strict about the age policy of 7yrs old for grade 1 back in those days.. so my parents were forced to put me back in kinder on that school.. then after that school year the teacher said that i am still not qualified to be on grade 1 even if I am again top of the class and can fluently read stories in english than the other grade 2 students, because of my age again.. so my mom told me to tell the teacher who will interview me that I am 7yrs old.. because that was the reason why I was not accepted before, I told the teacher that I am only 5 when they conduct the screening for grade 1..  well, the screening was made around march to april and my birthday is on the end of october..

point is, preparatory school is really optional.. my parents made sure that before we (my brothers and I) were enrolled in proper school we all can write, read in tagalog and english and do basic math.. we can say that we are more than qualified for grade one before we even enter school.. I dont think its mandatory..

Only if he is up to it and he is telling me he is getting bored going to school. Otherwise, I would prefer that he experience life in the normal phase. It's healthier that way.

No. Kahit pa i-offer ng Teacher. I want him to experience "normalcy". Kase hindi mo maaalis yung pressure sa bata once na ma-accelerate.

Yung intellectual at socioemotional development ng bata.

Pag advanced ang cognitive grasp ng bata, maboboring yan sa school. Posibleng tamarin sya pumasok kasi alam na nya tinuturo sa klase, pero the pacing must be based on the majority of the class.

Tapos kung sya naman yung pinaka bata sa klase because of his/advanced intellectual ability, baka di nya ka-pantay yung socioemotional level ng classmates nya. Kung one year lang naman ang tatalunan nya, why not, di naman kalayuan.
