naisip ko lang, for parents who have second thoughts on acceleration, pwede siguro magtransfer ng school. yung mas challenging ang environment .. pwede kasing ang laki ng lamang niya sa mga kis sa  school niya, pero kapag kinompare sa performance ng kids sa ibang schools, nasa normal level pa din siya..

then again, kung nasa best school na siya at ganun pa din.. siguro dapat iconsider na seriously yung acceleration

My kid also studied in that kind of school, homebased kasi so if u finish one level go to the next na.

Now he's 7 turning 8 on August 2, and he got accepted on a traditional school for Grade 4. I feel so worried about the adjustment kasi shy type sya and that I may need to resign from my job to make sure he has all the support he needs. Would that really be necessary?

What tips can u give for those with accelerated kids?

Mga 3 schools pero after sya matanggahin ng ibang school kasi "homebased" sya (pending pa yung permit ng school). Yung isang school hindi sya pasado for grade 4 pero sa last school na inapplyan ko dun sya pumasa sa exam and then ininterview rin sya. I actually asked the principal na ok lang kung mag grade 3 muna sya pero sabi nya he can go to grade 4 na e

our friends' family are moving back to the PH. her daughter is currently in 2nd year HS in SG. She's enrolled at DLSZ(coed pala to) 4th year na agad. her daughter is a bit hesitant natatakot daw mabully pero suggestion ng mom wag na lang i-discuss ang age nya sa ibang tao in school pra maiwasan daw mga issue na ganyan.

mas concern sila actually kasi next year college na agad? ganun na ba jan or junior college muna? parang ambilis naman - pra sa kanya. hahaha.

^now that i think about it.. mga grade 4 na ako nung nalaman ng classmates ko na i was 2 1/2 years younger than them. so normal pakitungo sakin nung 1st 3 years ko kasi hindi nila alam..well, aside from the normal teasing ng classmates from time to time na normal naman kahit sa mga magkaka-age, hindi ako nabully as in bullied talaga.. nung nalaman naman nila nung grade four na kami,  i was instantly the "baby" of the class.. wala naman din bullies..

^ that's good rianne. i hope sa HS the same din. sweet naman ang bata and can carry herself well. so i think makakaadjust naman sya agad wala lang sana masamang ugali talaga alam mo yung pinanganak para mambully.

not too sure. how did your classmates know na younger ka? physical ba?

i think for as long as di nya/nila ikwento, walang makakaalam. pero kasi mabilis ang balita so eventually malalaman din. 1 year lang naman sya mag stay.

physically, hindi pansin sakin. nasa mid-range ako. not to tall, not to short compared o them. gitna lagi ng pila kapag by height

hindi ko naman kasi kinukwento nung bata ako. i didnt think it was a big deal kasi .. nalaman lang when i invited some friends/classmate nung birthday ko nung grade 4 na ko

.. since 1 year lang naman pala siya.. mas okay siguro kung huwag na lang niya ikwento. it's highly unlikely naman kasi may magtanong. even if maliit siya compared to her classmates, still, hindi naman kasi "gawi" na ng pinoy to ask the age of a person lalo na kung classmate  kasi people assume na magkakapareho lang naman kayo

thanks sis rianne for that advise. Medyo nacomfort ako. I will advise my kid not to talk about his age too much with his classmates pero I will make sure to talk to his class advisor to make sure walang bully.

I came from an all girls' school and come high school I had classmates who were a year younger than everyone else, those transferees who came from grade schools that didn't offer grade 7. The way I remember it they weren't bullied naman because of their age. Yeah there were bantering and tuksuhan, which is normal, but it was never because of their age. They fitted well naman. Two of my kabarkadas are a year younger than us

we were together last night. the daughter won't start school until august pa. okay na sila sa issue re age/bully since 1 year lang naman daw. ngayon iniisip nila college naman. hahaha. she has a year to decide what course to take.

if believe ka sa school and the teacher who recommended accelearation sa child mo i think you have to go for it.  kasi hindi naman sila basta mag accelerate if di kaya ng child mo.  also, magiging boring na sa child mo if sisiw na sa kanya ang lessons.

my child got accelerated from kinder to prep, hesitant pa ako dati, but i decided to go for it.  now no regrets naman

one thing lang pala napansin ko, my girl is a little immature than her classmates, little lang naman, medyo delay ng konti ang emotional side, i just dont know if it's because of 1 yr age gap (sobra liit lang naman) or maybe only child lang sya that time...

pano gina-gauge ang intelligence ng bata sa mga schools whic allow acceleration? ano ang basehan?

my friend's son reads at 2 years old. at 3 years old he already can play scrabble but he still attends regular classes his age.

^sana may sumagot from the academe.. para mas malinawan tayong lahat. iba na kasi ngayon eh..

  pero i think it really depends on how the child performs sa group..

sabi mo, the child can read at 2, and play scrabble at age 3.. how abut math, science, p.e.? madali niya ba magrasp yung subject? or english lang siya nag-eexcel..

 if so, hindi siya pwede for acceleration. mapag-iiwanan siya sa ibang subjects.. it's also possible na mga classmate niya marunong na din naman magbasa..  so above normal man yung learnings na niya sa pagbabasa, hindi pa din enough maaccelerate kasi hindi naman talaga niya "napag-iiwanan" yung classmates niya .. kumbaga, pili lang yung areas kung saan siya angat.

--- walang pag asa. complicated. pero wondering if meron standardized process ang pilipinas? or it depends sa school kung sino ang i-accelerate nila? what's their basis? ano ang tests na ginagawa?

I had the same exact question before.  I noticed kasi that my son's other classmates from playschool took exams for kinder right after finishing playschool, a school accepted them. My son, on the other hand, went to a school which was strict on the age requirement.  At the time, my son was only three years old so he was placed in nursery.  Kung titingnan, it would seem that his other classmates got accelerated 'coz they immediately went to kinder level.  In reality, however, his classmates struggled in kinder level. 

This year I asked my son's school if they accelerate students, I was curious if they have a procedure for that especially if the student performs well in school, they said don't do acceleration.  So I proposed the idea that what if the child was clinically assessed to be advanced, what are they going to do about it.  They said that if the child is medically assessed to be advanced, then we could talk about possible acceleration.

Medical assessment helps determine whether a child is potentially gifted or a fast learner. It may happen kasi that a toddler might be advanced in his early years pero he will normalize in later years.  Others naman they start normal or late pero sobrang magiging advanced sa skills in later years.  Another scenario, yung bata pa lang consistent na advanced na. People who are not trained will not be able to accurately assess a child, hence, the need for professionals trained to do the assessment.  They will perform complete assessment of the child.Personality, cognitive and achievement tests are normally administered depending on age level.

Thus, I came to a conclusion na walang standard for acceleration dito sa pilipinas, depende sa school at kung bilib ka dun sa school na yun (I think another gt'er already mentioned this).  Pero kung gusto mo na properly ma-assess ang anak mo, you should bring them to institutions who can clinically assess them.  Again, dito sa pilipinas para malaman mo na gifted ang bata, you have to prepare roughly 8k to 12k for the complete assessment.  Pricey, pero that piece of paper will stay forever with your child.

^pinkpotato, singapore has a different system talaga when it comes to acceleration. Normally, GEP ang pina-follow dun for intellectually gifted students, they sit in for the exams in Primary 3, kung hindi naman mainstream sila until they take PSLE in Primary 6.

GEP students get invited to DSA for secondary level (yun ang advantage nila over mainstream students, however, a few mainstream students get invited too depending on how good they perform in school).
