age requirement for prep & grade 1

mga sis, me age requirement ba talaga para sa prep at grade 1? need ba na 7 yrs old na yung bata paggrade 1? o pede pa din na 6yrs old?

 mag5 pa lang yung anak ko, di ko alam kung kinder o prep sya sa pasukan. marunong na sya magbasa at magsulat kaya iniisip ko baka pwedeng di na sya sa kinder. nagsalinglit lang sya sa nursery ng ilang buwan para me nakakasamang bata pero ako ang nagturong magbasa at magsulat.

sis, salamat...sayang lang kasi kung alam na ng bata yung ituturo. kinder nga malamang sya maipasok, wala naman problema kaya lang baka halos alam na nya yun ituturo.

 St. Marys they offer junior-senior-grade 1 (meaning six yrs old na pag ng grade 1)
 Montessori they offer junior-senior-advance-grade 1 (dito 7 yrs na un grade 1)

 Ano pa ba talaga age for grade 1?di ko tuloy alam saan ipapasok.haha Tapos sa St. Marys may Entrance Exam pa. Sa Montessori interview lang daw. Ttuition fee nila mas mataas lang ng 3k sa Montessori.thanks

my son had nursery and kinder....pero i decided not to enroll him na sa Prep. Derecho na sya Grade 1, pumasa naman kahit below the age requierment. ang katwiran ko kasi nun sa school, pag hindi pumasa sa academic and maturity exams, e di wag nila tanggapin. e kaso pumasa, with flying colors pa. kaya go sya agad grade 1.

pero sa lourdes ang alam ko hindi pwede. may age requirement talaga. kaya di ko na dun inenrol.

Depende sa readiness ang age kung saan ang kid papasok.  I think, the best way is to let the school inform the parents if ok to jump or to go back.

Yung anak ko, he's 6.7 in June.  I'm homeschooling him and he is advanced in math, science but just right in Language Arts.

Kinder ang level namin with homeschool pero since I plan to enrol him this coming school year... gusto ko Prep muna siya.  Parang ang mga schools they often ask ipa-test daw baka di na kailangan mag prep.  But, I insisted on letting him go to Prep since I know my son.  Gulat pa sila, kasi daw a lot ng parents are in a hurry na mag grade 1 agad.  Sabi ko lang "I'm not in a hurry, you can assess him.  But, may difference ba yan pag 30 years old na sila?".

Just my two cents' iba iba ang readiness ng bata, the pressure in school nowadays is too much.  If the kid is really bright, let the school assess and give recommendations.  If parang tama lang go for lower level para right ang learning foundation, there is no reason ipamadali.

5-6 is ok for Prep and 6-7 for Grade 1.

^my daughter is 5 this year and im gonna be checking schools for her to enter Prep. Especially if we decide na sa trad school sya, kelanga magPrep muna sya in that school para hindi mabigla come grade1. If we decide naman na sa progressive school sya mag-grade school, i might just let her stay for one more year on her present school muna, because i like their method there (montessori) and i think masmaximize yung foundation kapag 3 yrs sya dun.

@pinkcoyote - Tama ka sis. That's my advice of my sister, too, that is, to enroll the child in the big school to where you plan your child to spend her elementary days.

Her second son had have a hard time adjusting in first grade because he didn't spend prep at that same school. Each school has their own first grade curriculum, and a school's preparatory level prepares the child for its school's (and that school alone) first grade level. Akala ko nga noon pare-pareho lang ang Kinder, Prep sa lahat ng schools, pare-pareho in a sense that even if I transfer my child to a new school in first grade, she'll cope up just fine kasi nga nag preschool naman sya. Yun pala hindi.

I don't think binabaan ng st. Paul age eligibility for grade 1. It has always been 6.6 to 7 years old  by June

True yan sis!  Gosh, ang big school ng anak ko (he's in Prep) they have to write Montessori Calligraphy already by Prep!

Nung nag check ako nung 1st day of school nila ang mga Grade 1, dikit dikit na ang handwriting! Ako ang naloka! Grade 2 kasi for other schools e.

Although, my son is 1 month older sa school requirement of Prep, but 1 month too young for Grade 1... di ako nagmadali.  Prep muna! I don't care kung siya ang matanda ng konti... basta may mastery  para ready for Grade 1.

Grade 1 is 6.6 to 7 by June din.

I don't think binabaan ng st. Paul age eligibility for grade 1. It has always been 6.6 to 7 years old  by June

yes sis binabaan na nila, i almost enrolled my child there last june. pwede pa nga nila tanggapin yung isang anak ko na august birthday na dapat jan-june lang. this year lang sila nagpalit.

depende sa school but usually 4 y/o ang kinder 1, 5 y/o junior prep or kinder 2, 6 y/o senior prep and 7 y/o ang grade 1. better to ask the school what's the age requirement. yung ibang school naman basta pasok yung age requirement within the school year, accept nila yung kid. but yung iba, strict talaga na school opening pa lang, met na yung age requirement.  sa DBTI Makati where my son is currently enrolled since prep (he's in grade 2 now), ang requirement nila that time when i inquired is that the kid should be born in 2003 so tamang tama, pasok pa yung anak ko kasi dec 2003 ang birthday niya. he was 5 1/2 years old that time he entered prep.

I've read that in the K+12 program, Kindergarten students should be at least 5 years old, and first grade students, at least 6 years old. Maybe that's the reason why other private schools lowered their age requirement for first grade. Siguro yung ibang schools ay magbabago rin kalaunan.

Cut-off date (Age) for Incoming grade 1 student is October 31 of the current year. So kahit wala pa siyang 6 years old pwede na siya sa grade provided na meet yung cut-off date.

Paragraph #4 (c),  itong DEPED ORDER na ito ang pinaglaban ko sa mga titser kasi nga di rin nila alam ang tamang cut-off date.ng grade one.  Kung aantayin ko pa another year e mag seseven na siya nun, sayang ang 1 year, considering me addtional 2 years pa na senior High School.

She is now in Grade 2, turned 7y/o last Sept. 15

I have mixed feelings about this.  My son is now 5 but is only in Kinder.  Naturally, he SHOULD still go through Prep next year when he turns 6.  But the schools that I've inquired to put him up for Grade 1 because now in K-12, 6yo na ang grade 1. 

The problem is, some school's curriculum for Grade 1 is prepared for kids who went through prep.  So now, I'm hesitant coz they are expecting my son to be able to read and write na agad, though we are still starting this in Kinder. And ang dami na agad subjects ng Grade 1, am afraid my son will get overwhelmed!

I called Holy Spirit (Cubao) and they recommended my child to be on Kinder2 kasi daw mag 5 years old na sya by Sept next year (their cut off is October).

I told them na hindi ko pa pinag-school daughter ko since the previous requirement for nursery was dapat 4 years old by august (since september ang birthday nya, technically hindi din sya mtatanggap sa nursery so we've waited for 1 year) and now gulat ako kasi hindi na sya pwede sa nursery kundi kinder2 na kaagad

ang hirap pala kasi iba-iba din age requirement ng mga schools. Sa St. Theresa yata ang August ang cut-off, then Holy Spirit naman is October

We really like to send her pa naman sa Holy Spirit kaya lang i don' want her to be on Kinder 2 ng walang pang formal schooling. Btw, written and oral ang entrance exam sa Holy Spirit
