planning to open a checking account with bpi family.. may maxi-saver ako and atm sa kanila. not sure kung pano magdagdag ng checking.

i had 2 Real Bank at 3 K mininum and rcbc savings at 2.5 K.

A lot of major banks charge P300 service charge for checking and savings accounts. Bihira na akong makakita ng P200 na service charge.

However, lots of these banks charge only on the 2nd consecutive month that the account falls below maintaining balance.

Once yung BPI checking account ko, nag-negative after that P300 service charge. Bait lang ng bangko tumawag sa akin to tell me I have to fund it. Hindi naman sinara ang account.

we have CA at Metrobank.separate from our savings and atm account. lahat yan nakaenroll sa online banking.kaya kapag may magdudue kaming check transfer na lang kami from our savings online.

We have an atf checking account at metrobank for 6 yrs na. Okay naman convenient esp since we personally know the staffs from manager to the guards. Ang ayaw ko lang dun is pag di ka everyday pa update ng passbook, sometimes nagkakaron ng cn/dn. combined debits/credits. So medyo mahirap mag track ng record aantayin mo pa yung copy ng breakdown nun.

We also have a back up checking at bank of commerce but will close it this week. Mababa na rate, ang hirap pa mag withdraw ng hundreds. Irerequest pa daw yun. To think one bundle lang naman. Nacocompare ko lang sa metrobank na palaging meron.

Will replace our BOC checking na lang with BDO.

If I'm not mistaken, BDO requires a 6 months bank account before you can acquire a checking account. Guess this works for them to determine your banking record and tenure.

Ano po uses at advantages po of having a checking account po? How can I used it in my advantage? Medyo clueless po ako sa checking accounts na in-offer ng mga banks na ito.

My personal reason for having a checking account is to be able to issue post dated checks for my current housing loan. Also, I know a suki at Greenhills na pumapayag siya at least 2 gives yun gadgets na bibilin namin sa kanya. I'm sure marami pang reasons for a checking account, these are just mine

Kami naman mainly for business purposes and for paying utility bills as well.

If you can maintain the 5k maintenance balance, I highly suggest BPI Family bank.  It works well if you have a savings account.  Less hassle on having it approved.  Also, I just do funds transfer from my savings account (if your payroll is here) to checking account.  For me who does has a different bank account for payroll, its easier to deposit using their cash deposit machines.  Since I do remittances (SG to PH BPI), my goes directly to my savings account and I just do funds transfer online.  No need to physically go to the bank to do my transfers.

Sis nicola_juliano, it depends on your situation kasi. Like for us, we have weekly collection and payments with other establishments. So instead of paying cash, we issue checks. Vice versa. They also pay us checks. Less time and effort in counting cash and less risk. Ang downside lang naman ng checking is kapag nag fall below ka ng maintaining and nacharge ka dahil sa tumalbog na tseke. Which is never been our problem naman. Kasi important ang credibility.

For me I use it kung gusto ko ng official document.  Pag di napondohan ang check at tumalbog, you can sue the person who issued it.  So mas secure sha in terms of payment.  Like when paying amortization, pag naencash na yung check payment ko at wala akong official receipt or proof of payment from my vendor, I can sue them.  he he he.
Pero kung mga personal utilities like meralco, PLDT, globe, kung mabilisan at hindi gaano malaki ang babayaran, then ok na yung bills payment online or pila sa bayad center.

Thank you to this thread and everyone who imparted their insights. At first I was only looking at the maintaining balance in choosing a bank to open a checking account with. But it makes more sense nga to open where your savings account is. Like many here, mine is also at BPI. Buti na lang, BPI has a very good online banking system, so hassle-free ang pag-transfer ng funds when I need to fund the checking account I'm about to open.

my checking account is from Maybank. 2-3k lang ata maintaining balance.
They have online facility too. Very convenient.
