Best Bank to Open a Checking account

mine parang gusto ko na din na pnb na lang din, since mbba lang opening to them, its 2,500 checkbook nga lang xia.. for me ok lang na checkbook kc for issuing pdc's lang naman para sa nakuha nmen house.

which bank/s would allow you to open a checking account even if you don't have an existing account with their bank? TIA!

first off sis, that rule is not written in stone.
it depends on the bank manager.

ex, a known bank client can endorse you.
or developers can endorse you at sasabihin
para lang sa monthly payments mo yung checking account.

Personally, I had opened that bank of commerce
account by talking to the manager.
Banco Filipino where I had my checking account just
got closed down and I needed to open up another account.
BPI Direct was the only account I had that was 6 months
old and their checking account had a maintaining balance of
25k!!

So I talked to the manager ng bank of commerce and she
approved my checking account =D

if you have BPI Express Online account na may Payroll/savings acct na enrolled, sa BPI na lang siguro. dun kami nag-open ni hubby kasi we both have the online account so every time we want to add money sa account online na lang ang transaction, walang hassle.

I have savings account sa BDO, dapat ba kung saan ka nag-open ng savings, dun ka rin mag-open ng checking? O okay na kahit saang branch provided na meron kang savings?

^ best to open your checking account in BDO since you already have a savings account with them.

you might find it a challenge to open on other banks - because they require you to have a savings account with them.

Mga sis, may nakapagtry na ba na yung existing na account (bpi family) i-convert nalang to savings/checking account para di na masyadong madaming account and easy to maintain? Thanks!

^ Nun nagapply kasi ako last January for a savings account in the head office of BPI Family Savings Bank nakuha ko on the same day. Nagulat nga ako kasi ganun na pala kabilis ngayon. Then I asked the teller if in the future I've decided to convert it in Checking Account wala ba magiging problem, sabi nya wala naman daw. Kun gusto ko pa nga raw gawing checking account na lang yun iaapply ko.

But I'm not sure lang kun ganun din sa ibang branch sis since I opened it mismo sa head office ng BPI Fam. Tawag ka na lang muna to inquire kahit sa hotline ng BPI.

Sayang ngayon ko lang nalaman 10k lang maintaningsa BPI. I have checking accounts with Allied 25k maintaining and BDO 25k din.

Since I have existing SA from BPI, it came as no surprise that I opted to open my checking account from them as well. As for their services, I have no problems. I transact mostly online and buy checkbooks in bulk.

H2B and I opened a joint checking account sa BPI Family. P5000 yung maintaining balance and we opted for the non-interest earning account because we're just going to use the checks as payments for our wedding suppliers. The application process was actually easy (pero I think dahil H2B maintains a savings account with the same branch kaya mabilis lang). We filled up some forms and deposited P5000 + P125 (for the checkbook). We got the checkbook on the same day and the ATMs the next day.

BPI. Payroll account ko before. We were asked to have a current account as our payroll account so that we could issue post-dated checks if we wanted to avail of loans sa coop. I never let go of it na kahit I resigned from that job.

Some of my officemates were not allowed by the bank to convert to checking account... meaning they do investigation before they approve... meaning maingat sila sa kung sino ang nabibigyan ng checking account... which for me is good! kapag may bad record, di pwede magka-checking account, savings lang.

Other conveniences... you can re-order checks online. you can order from any branch or have your checkbooks delivered from one branch to another for free.

^ also BPI checks can be easily encashed at any BPI branch nationwide - without any service charges pa! Regular din ang statements sa bahay - I get mine monthly - so I don't have to regularly get to the branch to pick that up. Also, BPI checks deposited to a BPI bank account doesn't go to that usual 3-business-day clearing process: credited na agad sa bank account yung funds.

You could even apply for Check Protect to protect your checking account in the event that you had accidently overdrawn the checking account.

The big downside to all the good features of BPI checking account is that their maintaining balance is quite high at P10,000. Sa BPI Family P5000 lang, but you are limited sa mga BPI Family - I mean, you get to enjoy the features of the checking account I've mentioned above sa mga BPI Family branches rin lang. There's always more main BPI branch than BPI Family branches.

But I think a lot of banks had that rule - they won't allow you to open checking accounts without a savings account with them. Kasi ang dami kong natanungan na bangko noon and they required me to open a savings account and maintain a required balance for a few months if I want their checking account. Chinabank was willing to make an exception though - nagparequire sila ng statement from my other bank's savings account.

How about BPI Main checking account, can you also encash it at BPI Family?
