Career Issues, Need Assessment
« on: March 03, 2011, 11:07:38 pm »
Hello mga sis.

Marami lang akong issues, please bear with my kinda long post.

Nagwork ako sa call center for nearly 6 years, last office job ko was in June 2008, nung nakakita ako ng work from home opportunity I gave up working in the corporate world then grabbed whatever job I could find online. It was smoothly flowing, nakakaipon, minsan nauubos, now may small business pa ako (super part time lang) na online selling.

Since we're not getting any younger, hubby and I decided to get a pre selling house, 15K monthly for a year na down payment, another 10 years for 15K na amortization. When we grabbed this chance I had two full time jobs, for over 8 months I was earning roughly 50-60K pero super over worked, minsan 100 hours in a week ang ginugugol ko just to earn that much.

A month ago, when my second client decided to concentrate on his other business leaving me with just 1 regular job, earning just about 30-35K a month.

Problem is, I'm just on my 3rd month (kakabayad lang) ng DP, super long way to go pa. I am paying for our house rent, electric bill, phone/internet and water bills that amount to 12-15K a month.

Di pa kasama dyan ang groceries, emergency na pagkakagastusan (like right now biglang nasira ang ref), paregister ng sasakyan next month, philhealth (annual na kasi kami nagbabayad) at hospital emergencies na pwedeng mangyari anytime.

Now, sa sobrang haba ng post ko, ang main issue ko is if need ko naba na mag work abroad, it is the right time naba, kasi sa totoo lang kahit tuloy tuloy ang current work ko walang assurance to kasi nga online, we have no benefits either.

Siguro you would ask me, kung bakit ko to pinoproblema, honestly kasi walang work ang asawa ko, maswerte na kung magka work sya, I can see naman na pursigido sya pero wala talaga eh, so I don't question that part na, I just accepted it years ago.

Anyway, back to my question, is it really high time to go back to the corporate world outside the country? I'm seriously thinking about it kasi feeling ko wala na talaga akong maasahan dito sa Philippines.

Please assess my situation. Any feedback will be appreciated. :)

Mahirap talaga ang buhay ngayon lalo na kung may asawa ka and you're not finanncially stable.  ;) (I'm  not swaying na there is a problem with your hubby. )

Think of your situation as a challenge not just for you but for hubby too... When you had overcome did challenge your relationship gets stronger.

Sis, may anak ba kayo? Kung may anak, kaya mo bang iwan anak
Mo?

If you're willing to adjust your financial lifestyle (read: living below your means), okay pa naman siguro kayo.

^ sis wala pa kaming anak, but we're planning na sana next year kapag nakalipat na kami sa house na hinuhulugan namin.

The truth is wala kaming luho, and I can say that we are living within our means yun nga lang, wala rin kaming credit cards or utang na binabayaran, napansin ko lang since lumaki ang gastos namin since December parang nakukulangan ako.

if you work abroad, do you have the funds to support such move? considering na you have ammortizations? may savings ka ba na good for 6months? are you planning on applying when you get there or dito pa lang apply ka na? alam mo ba magkano din ang industry average sa country na pupuntahan mo? is it worth it? tipong you can live comfortably duon and still pay your dues here, and still save?

lastly, have you talked to your husband about migrating? (di ko kasi nabasa sa post mo) so kasama sya? or maiiwan sya dito? also, what will happen dun sa binabayaran nyo na house?

sorry dami tanong haha :) just want to understand first bago magcomment :)

Kung tutuusin kayang makaipon at kayang magtyaga sa sweldo, pero I'm thinking of long term plans.

It's a risk talaga.

^Lol, natawa naman ako dun. I share the same sentiments actually, kung kaya ko talagang kumita ng more than what I'm earning now, I'd love to stay, lalo pa at dalawa lang kami ni hubby, kawawa naman kung iiwan ko pa. Hopefully nga makakuha pa ako ng part time work.

For me, if you feel that you are not financially stable to the point that your savings after paying all your expenses are almost ZERO, its time to look for greener pastures.  If you can find a work abroad with a salary na makakaipon kayo i say you for it.  Get a job na in a year makakaipon na agad kayo ni hubby.  I suggest this move habang wala pa kayong anak as working outside the phils will be harder if you have children.  Have a talk with your husband and compute.  If you think it will be beneficial if you work abroad and by all means do it, for your family's security.  But if you feel that whatever you will earn is comparable to what you have here in Phils (pay ng rent doon sa abroad, huge cost of living despite the salary) then I suggest just stay here and look for better means.  Most importantly, pray and ask guidance from HIM.

I agree with what craziestqueenever said that there are some familes that still chose to live together and nakakayanan naman. You just have to live within your means. Just like what Rich Dad, Poor Dad book says, there are people na habang lumalaki yung salary nila e lumalaki din yung liabilities nila.

Mahirap mag work sa ibang bansa.

These are challenges in your marriage which I believe will make you become more stronger.

I'm sure kaya mo yan sis. If you think na may mga additional gastos ka for your wants ONLY. then try to let go of it. By that, mas makakatipid kayo.

What will you be doing overseas and where? Keeping two jobs for 10 years to pay for housing is a lot of work and sacrifice. Maybe having one job overseas will be better especially if it's in one of those countries that take work life balance seriously. And if your hubby is more likely to find work in that country, that's another thing to consider. He'll probably be happier there if he's able to find work and ultimately you'll both be happier.  :D

So go lang!

I am not sure if this post is still open but if you are still childless, then you and your husband can try abroad and save up.  At least magkasama pa kayo.  Then if the time comes that you think its better to raise a family outside the Phils (where you are), then you're all settled.
