Goodluck sis Grayce! Malapit na yan! Congrats in advance :-)

Tin and Pia - I work through oDesk. Baka you might have heard of it na rin since may thread naman dito sa GT, kaso di ako active dun. Dito ako mas active at dun sa Childbirth and Childcare thread. I'm an IT/Technical Recruiter for one of the biggest buyers ng oDesk. I've been working from home since September 2009 and I'm loving it (same company). Nung na-preggy ako, I still work dahil jusmiyo mahal ang maintenance ng pagbubuntis ko. Pero I stopped working nung ika 7th month ko na, nagpaalam ako sa boss ko and okay naman sa kanila. Bumalik ako last Jan 2011, and kaya ko pa naman ang Work+Baby+Household with the assistance of my Maid (of course)  :D

Jen, how does oDesk work?  How do I get work that suits my qualifications and training?

I never really thought that I would land as an IT recruiter kase my experience is lined up sa customer service (I'm a Team Lead when I resigned from a local work; call center industry). Nung ininterview ako ng boss ko na ngayon, I am very honest na wala ako kaalam alam sa IT field pero I told him na IT si hubby and I think kaya niya ako hinire din kase he knows I would be able to get enough help from hubby pag na-hire niya ako. I started very low rate lang at $3 (lucky na nga ako eh, kase iba $1 or even $ cents ata), that's 40 hours a week (equivalent to a full-time work talaga). And ayun, the rest is history, sa sipag ko I crawled up to the top. And I tell you, I earn more kesa nung nagwowork ako locally as TL  :)

Basta just make sure you have a very "Pogi" profile and you'll get a job. Medyo mahirap daw ngayon kumuha work, pero I guess nasa pag-market lang ng sarili yan di ba?  ;) Sometimes, I handle mga positions na non-IT related, I'll let you know in case you're interested and I tell you, it pays good (nasa $15/hr at 40 hours a week  ::)) . In case, you want IT related work din, you can PM me and I'll check ano magagawa ko  :D

Marose - sang field ka ba? If I remembered it right, kaw ata yung lawyer? Tama ba?

Jen, nagsign up ako sa oDesk.

marose, sorry for my ignorance.. ano ang BPO?

parang keen ako dyan sa oDesk..

^ BPO = Business Process Outsourcing
Call centers are in the BPO industry.

And manganganak ka na nga lang sa bansang to pressured ka pa matapos in 8hrs kundi may additional bayad :o

Tin - I don't know if may job na offered sa under grads. Pero I suggest, don't mention na under grad ka, if you think you know your capacity naman. Like, alam mo office work kahit di ka graduate, it won't hurt to lie a little. After all, sa oDesk naman di kame (recruiters/HR) humihingi ng credentials like Diploma etc etc. Basta hired ka based sa nasa profile mo  ;) Kame nga, kahit empty profile minsan, hinahire namin kase we have a testing phase and if maayos namang maipasa mga tests, then we hire.

Re taking a risk - ganda din yan pag minsan pero not most of the time. Parang sa sugal lang yan, you bet a big amount, you win - Swerte! Pero what if kabaliktaran nangyari di ba? joining oDesk is risky talaga lalo na if may local work ka and iiwanan mo, just for the sake na "o dito na ako", kase dito, your employer can always end your contract. Dito wala! as in wala! My contract remained open naman, thank God! :D And when I gave birth, I was still given another 2 months before I go back. Yun nga lang syempre, I don't get paid nung di ako nagwowork. But, it's okay kase baby first dapat :-)

Pia - yup meron sila website. Check niyo ito: www.odesk.com. Akala ko noon, di rin ito totoo. Pero since sa house lang naman ako nun at I have all the time para magbasa basa, ayan napa-sign up ako. Re payment/sweldo, my employer pays mer through oDesk (walang palya), since may tracker kame dito na dinadownload how to get paid. So umaandar ang tracker basta naka-IN ka. Gaya ngayon, naka-IN ako pero naka GT  :P LOL! Then, I withdraw my sweldo from oDesk going through paypal, then from paypal going through my bank account (BPI). Madali lang talaga siya :-)

hahaha.. grabe ka Grayce! lol nagawa mo pang mag GT ha.. nakakaloka ka.. oo ganyan dito.. since naadmit ka before noon, considered as 1 day yun.. parang hotel ganon.. naka suite ka pa ha! naks! ako sa 4-bedded ward noon kaya bawal bisita.. meron oras lang.. nag epi ka pa pala..

see you tomorrow!

Jen, ah okay. no need for credentials na pala. malamang data entry lang muna ako. magstart ako sa ganyan then bahala na si batman. kinatatakot ko kasi nung una, if i lie tapos humingi ng credentials, naku huling huli ako. so sure na hindi kelangan sis? try ko nga ayusin yung profile ko. tutal, tambay mode lang naman ako palage dito sa bahay lalo kapag sleeping si baby. thanks sis ha! pm kita :)

Yup sis, most of the time they don't ask credentials. I suggest, pagaralan mo mabuti ang paggamit ng MS Excel sis if Data entry ka kase if advanced knowledge ka, mas meron kang edge kesa sa ibang aplikante. Isama mo na din ang Google Docs, since mostly pag ganyan na Home-Based, wala namang mga servers employers na pwede ma-access ng lahat so most rely on Google Docs to save files  ;)
