sis Jewelshine, I'm just curious, why do you say '4 is late'?

For me 3.7 yrs old ngstart ang daughter ko. I don't think that 4 yrs old is considered too late...but for some schools usually 2 yrs. Old palang pinagsstart na yung child.  Ang cons lang kapag almost 4 yrs old mo na sila i enroll like my child. She cried during the first week of her class. But alteast after that super enjoy na siya. I think kasi pag too early naman like 2 yrs. Old sila i enroll pag nagiiyak mas ma trauma ang bata baka lalo hindi pumasok. They can tell naman if they are  ready to be alone and not to see their mom for a few hours.
Wag nalang siguro pilitin pag masyadong bata pa. My daughter kasi kahit almost 4 na siya nag start as early as 1 tinuturuan ko na siya sa bahay ng colors, shapes, numbers and letters kaya nung inienroll ko na siya madami na siya alam. Nasa parents naman yan eh hindi porket late ng pinagschool eh late nadin ang bata in terms of what they know. ME  I always find time to teach my child at home.

my daughter started 3.6. most of her classmates are 3 din. kasi 6 years old na ang grade 1 diba because of k12. dami ngang nag jump na kinder last year to grade 1 na.

in my dau's nursery class, they are already reading cvc words, pantig pantig sa filipino. counting to 30, fruits and vegs, water, land and air animals yan na nacover nila gang 2nd grading. and the 3 year olds learned and understand. gulat nga ako kasi parang grade 1 na ko nung tinuro sakin yung  iba na tinuturo sa anak ko.

sa school ng anak ko laging madami ang kinder, kasi may mga parents na hindi nagpapa nursery and some naman pinapa skip na ng prep.

My daughter's going to start school this June and she'll be 3.9 years old by then. We were supposed to send her to school na last school year since she enjoyed the summer class immensely but we just thought na she's a bit too young for everyday school so we held it off na lang muna. One of my friends advised me to enroll her in Kumon programs para daw like her daughter na at 3 years old marunong na magbasa. I opposed it kase although it's well and good that her child learned to read early, I didn't want to subject my daughter to something rigorous at an early age when she is supposed to be playing and having fun.

my son started at 2.8 years old, diretso nursery 1 na.. october-born kasi, medyo alanganin ang age so ayun, sya ata pinakabata sa klase..2 hours/day, 5x a week and so far, he's faring well naman, although the first few days umiiyak sya pag iiwan sa classroom, but after that super enjoy na sya :)

Sis kung ako sayo, wag muna. I take Child Education courses dito sa States and hinde talaga advisable na ienroll ng too early ang bata. She will learn to read eventually.. wag masyado ipilit. Normally naman din, nagle-level out ang yung educational level ng children around 3rd grade. Sa Sweden and Finland nga, 7 years old nagsstart ang mga bata magaral, and maganda yung academic achievement tsaka well being nung children duon.

Pinaka importante talaga sa children yung play time nila.. sobrang essential sa growth ng bata. This is where they learn to socialize, and to solve problems their own way. Wag naten sila ideprive ng playtime para sa academics na pwede naman nila gawin in a few years..

mommies, what age po ba dapat ilipat kids niyo sa big school? my daughter po kasi nasa toddler class siya ngayon, pero mag-4 years old na siya sa May. yung ibang classmate niya sa toddler class lilipat na sa big school (St. Scholastica) next school year, pero feeling ko di pa ready daughter ko( ang hirap pagsabihan, minsan, madalas di pa rin nakikinig sa teacher). ok lang kaya stay muna siya sa pre-school niya next school year na darating? by that time 4 years old na siya. worry lang kasi ako na baka mapagiwanan siya kasi yung ibang classmate niya lilipat na ng big school.

my daughter is starting her playgroup when she's 2 (I submitted na her papers and nasa waiting list na sya)

i dont think it's too early kung more on laro laro lang naman. I think it's good pa nga para maexpose sya and madevelop pa skills nya further. Saka if half day lang naman tapos once a week, lalong wala akong nakikitang problem.

We enrolled our kids when they were about to turn 5. Okay naman. In fact they always look forward to school. Enjoy na enjoy sila. Si panganay nga eh bumabalik pa sa school sa hapon for his football training.

ok din iyong playschool kasi the kid would develop their interaction skills and kung may separation anxiety sila mawawala iyon :)

My three kids all started when they turned four.  Their birthdays are all in summer so just a little over 4 sila when they enter preschool.  I feel it's a good age.  I think 2.5 is definitely too early. Even at 3, they still like to play, and if the school is not a play school, sayang naman at minsan kawawa yung bata esp. when the child doesn't want to be left behind by his mom.

I found that at 4, my kids could understand why they have to be left behind at school, why they sometimes have to sit still, why they have to follow rules.  They know that we will come back to fetch them and their minds are more attuned to concentrating on books.  Just sharing my opinion :)

Saken naman mga mommies, nag school na yung daughter ko 3.6 years old siya. Sa una lang naman po siya nag cry because she doesn't want me to leave her inside the classroom etc. but the teacher was able to build rapport with her kaya okay na siya. Minsan siya na nagsasabi sakin na wag na ko pumasok sa classroom because she's going to study na.

I think 2.5 is to early for a formal school, play schools lang muna siguro for that age. Hindi narin ako nagsisi na I let my daughter go to school at the age of 3.6 years old kase malaki naging progress sa kanya. Nagsstart na cya magblend and can read ng konti [textspeak!] simple words like cat, mat , rat etc. Working mom po kase ako and naiiwan lang cya with yaya sa house. Mas maganda na may natutunan siya kesa di cya maturuan ni yaya.  ;D

IMO, 4 years old is the 'ideal' age talaga in terms of their emotional and mental readiness. At 4, they're more willing to sit down and listen to a teacher. Mas madali sila bigyan ng instructions din. BUT, in this generation of kids, yung mga 3 years old or months older, may mga batang makikita mong ready na din. You can gauge it naman based sa behavior nila sa bahay, or if you enter them into any kind of class (play or enrichment class). They may need more guidance at first, pero yung mga talagang ready na, and ready na din ang parents (this is important too! :D), kakayanin naman talaga, kahit sa formal school setting. :)

Kung younger than 3, best have them in a playschool muna to improve on their social interaction.

As for reading and writing, IMO, the child will learn it in school when he or she is ready. No need to enroll ng maaga sa mga classes (school or classes like Kumon) just for the sake of the parent wanting a kid to read and write early. :) As a preschooler, ang priority talagang matutunan ng bata is not academic per se, but more on yung pagsunod sa instruction, pakikinig sa teacher, pakikipag-interact sa classmates, matuto mag-share, maging independent and the like. Even in my child's school, which is a traditional school, they sing and dance and play more than they sit down and answer worksheets. For the first half of the school year, relaxed lang ang pace ng pag-aaral nila, it was on the second half of the year lang when they started talaga with learning to write their name, doing math sentences (subtraction/addition), and the like. And by that time, yung mga 3-year-olds, naka-catch up na sa pag-concentrate sa class, sa pag-sit down to listen to teacher. :)

Hi ladies, my cousin gave me the book, Outliers, by Malcolm Gladwell, and there he states that children who are the oldest in class usually go on to perform much better academically and in sports. Example, in the States, since September start ng school nila and September is the cut off, kids born in October, November, and December will be the eldest come the following school year. Being eldest, they will be grouped among the "advanced" group and being older, they'll be given more leadership roles which gives them an advantage. Same with sports. Being the eldest in any sport means they'll be bigger physically, have more "play" time, than younger counterparts.

My cousin "timed" her pregnancy so she'll give birth this October as she believes by the time her child enters school, September na ang start ng school year and it means her child will be the eldest when he does enter school. So napaisip ako because my husband and I are planning to have kids na sana (we just got married this year). What do you think about this?
