gwensab - Ok lang yan mommy Kinder na siya sa pasukan if ever. You can have  him/her enrolled in summer classes. Para di siya mabigla sa classroom setup.

Hello lilsaintsm0m, i just inquired dito sa montessori sa loob ng subdivision namin, nursery daw muna ang bebe ko kasi nga first-timer then later on when they see progress naman daw they will move her up to K-1 or K-2.

My kambal were turning four then. Ni-ready ko muna sila sa idea of schooling. Pinakita ko sa kanila what a scholl looks like. Sinabi ko na magkakaron sila ng teacher and what a teacher does. Magkakaron sila ng maraming friends kasi marami silang maiging classmates. Kinuwento ko sa kanila yung mga activities nila sa scool. Na magkakaron sila ng study time, playtime at sabay sabay silang mag-snack ng classmates nila. They were more than eager to go to shool when they learned about it. Sobrang excited that they didn't mind nung iwan ko sila nung first day nila sa school. Actually, pinasok ko muna sila ng summer classes to see if ready na talaga sila. Maganda naman yung feedback nung teacher nila so we decided to enroll them pagdating ng pasukan. I guess, it depends sa kid mo kung ready na sya or not sa schooling. Like what other parents did, sa playschool muna para masanay syang makipag-socialize.

i just talked to my panganay's teacher yesterday.  because of the K+12, some schools adjusted their cut off age for nursery.  so like in my daughter's school, they are now accepting kids for nursery who are turning 3 on october 2012.

so meaning, my son can go to school na next year.  no more dilemma for me on when he should start with nursery.  :)

thanks sa mga nag reply mga sis nga pala!

Yan din ang tanong ko. Montessori or Progressive?

Pero parang mas type ko ang Montessori [textspeak!] they teach children independence at an early age, which I think is very important for them to possess until adult years. Also, balanced siya in terms of the child's intellectual needs and effortless learning on his pace pero controlled environment pa rin. More on preparing a child for the future, for success. In between siya ng progressive and traditional.

Ang progressive [textspeak!] social, focused on EQ and adapting in natural environment. They believe that education is a process of learning not a preparation for future living. So, ano mas gusto mo? Ako montessori [textspeak!] in today's world alam mo naman ang competition tsaka we are finding good education-foundation for their future naman talaga, hindi naman what is just now. Tsaka human instinct naman ang adaptation sa environment basta ikaw yung parent na you expose the child to all sorts of environment para well rounded ang bata. Or enroll him sa natural talents niya like swimming ba, dancing, singing, painting...... along the way as a parent you will discover naman.....Tsaka lahat yan kailangan ng parental intervention para maapply ng maganda. You know your child best.

Mas ok [textspeak!] for me na Montessori, feeling ko hindi siya mahihirapan to transfer sa big school. Pinagpipilian ko [textspeak!] sa gradeschool is DOn Bosco [textspeak!] very technology driven, catholic and traditional siya.

I am also considering Early Achievers [textspeak!] pangarap ko ipasok anak ko to Bigger Chinese schools. They have chinese subject at preschool [textspeak!]. Future wise, marami siyang magiging contacts sa Chinese community, learn the language and business oriented, hindi employee.

What's wrong [textspeak!] with traditional for me is they teach children how to be employees, not to be entrepreneurs...

So depende sa plano mo san siya mag big school. [textspeak!] if mga Ateneo-traditional yan. Araw araw may exam, e pag galing yan ng progressive-walang exam dun. Mastrestress yung bata [textspeak!] hindi sanay.

Weigh mo rin as a mother, what will be applicable to him/her to your plan kung san siya mag gradeschool/highschool.

Magsisit in din kme ng husband ko para malaman kung ano mas gusto namin. Depende yan sa parenting style mo.

Right noe, I'm so torn kung papa-school ko na siya o hindi pa for this June. I enrolled her in a summer class kasi, so far, nakikita kong enjoy talaga siya. Kaso parang a bit late na ata ako kasi enrollment period na, baka di na ako makahabol :( I'm torn din kung preschool o big school na hay

in my case, my son started formal schooling when he was 4 1/2yrs old but I started homeschooling him when he was 3yrs old so when he enter nursery he already know how to read simple words and he can write his name. He basically knows how to read and write. So after nursery, we tried to apply for prep at AGS and were lucky enough because he passed the entrance exam and now he's an incoming prep at the ateneo grade school.

My kiddo started at 3. I honestly don't think that kids are ever too young to go to school so it's completely your call! :)

If you work all day and your kid will just be left with yaya, I would suggest you have our child spend a few hours in a preschool so he or she can learn a bit more.

^It makes sense when you put it that way:

If you work all day and your kid will just be left with yaya, I would suggest you have our child spend a few hours in a preschool so he or she can learn a bit more.

I was originally planning to send her to school at age 4 but then maybe 3 is a better age if my daughter's just gonna stay at home with my yaya.

required na ba ngayon ang nursery?  ang alam ko kasi noon pwede kahit hindi mag-nursery, start na kaagad kinder.  kaya i'm still torn if nursery (3yo) or kinder (5yo) ko sya start mag-school.

^by DECS requirement, ang required is Kinder (5yo). But check the school where you're planning to send your kid. Some of them requires that the kid attends some formal schooling (nursery) before going to kinder. If the kid is going to public, ok Lang diretso kinder at 5yo.

^^S started with schooling a few months shy of 3yo. Though I stay at home with her, I preferred to send her to school so she can have interaction with other kids. We were considering enrolling her again for some classes at gymbo pero Iba pa din ang regular schooling. Iba ang dynamics.

I've just enrolled my 2.4 month old daughter at a playschool near our place. They have a trial module na two months lang muna papasok sa school then it's up to you kung ieenroll mo na baby mo for the entire school year. I'm one of those parents who don't approve of early schooling kasi I used to think it seemed like robbing them of their babyhood or childhood, but now ang reality pala, since my husband and I are both working (I also bring home work), si yaya lang kasama ni baby the whole day, kawawa naman, wala pang kalaro kasi only child and our neighbor's kids are either too big/old to play with her or too young (infant). Naisip namin mag asawa ienroll na sya para may makalaro at matuto magsalita. Also to give her something to look forward to everyday kahit for two months lang muna. NextJune when she is 3.4months old baka sa "big" preschool na.

^personally I don't think it's robbing of your kid's childhood. Depende on  the school where you're sending the kid, early Schooling can help with your kid's EQ & IQ. siguro find a school that doesn't focus so much on academics. At an early age, playschool is perfect. That's why I like my daughter's previous preschool. They don't give grades & instead only a narrative report & a Checklist of the milestones your kid should be achieving at a particular age. IMO, this is still better than your kid staying alone with the yaya, watching tv the whole day. Ok sana if educational shows, eh paano if puro noontime shows & telenoveleas? How sure are we our instructions our followed when we are out? Garbage in, garbage out. Baka magaya sa IQ ni yaya :p

I'm glad I sent my kids to preschool at 3 years old.   With K12, they'll be in grade 1 next year at 6 years old.  Tamang tama lang ang 3 years of preschool to prepare them for grade school.  Feeling ko nga kulang pa, kasi I was anticipating that they will only be in prep next year.

^marose, have you inquired with your prospect school for the twins? For S, even if she'll enter gr 1 sa SY 2013-2014, their lessons daw will still be for prep/kinder 3. If I remember my convo with their academic coordinator as far as the K12 is concerned, the impact on them is change in level labels and no curriculum changes. that's why I'm no longer worried with it. Will confirm this again on Tuesday during their orientation as this convo was back January/February. They were still in talks then with other private schools/PAAASCU how will the K12 will impact them

* ngayon ko Lang na realized with your comment that this will be their 3rd year in school. ambilis!

^  Ally, A will release the official policy and guidelines in July pa raw.  We'll be having a K12 seminar in the preschool later this month, a Deped official was invited by the school for this purpose.

I heard lang from another mom, whose son is incoming prep, na next year, her son will be in grade 2.  So parang nag-skip nga.  Kung ganoon, most likely, relabelling nga lang ang levels.  Maybe, this big school will adjust the age requirement for prep to 5 years old, considering dapat by 6, nasa grade 1 na.

I have mixed feelings about this.  Kung ganoon, my sons will be among the youngest in class kasi June-born sila and saktong-sakto lang their age.

I told my sons that they will be the kuyas na in their classes since this is their last year in preschool.  Since their class is composed of kids of different ages, sila na ang among the older kids in their respective classes.  Waah, two years ago, sila ang youngest.  I am feeling a bit nostalgic.  I will surely miss their school now when it is time to move on.
