My now 6 years old son started at 3.7months.

I felt too early for him (boys learn differently than girls).  Kaya he was turned-off with school after 3 years of schooling.  So, I homeschooled him for prep and he did very well.. pinahabol ko lang ng 1 year.

Nakakainis nga, that schools are into age ng bata rather than the readiness. Since, I pulled him out from a progressive school in kinder (techinically 2 years ang kinder niya) the schools kept on asking if ok lang ba siya hindi pa grade 1 next year.  Sabi ko lang, ok lang.  Bakit.. may diff ba yun kung 40 years old na siya? Sagot lang sakin, mga ibang moms daw nagmamadali mag aral ang mga kids.

Kaya, now... I want to take it easy with my twin girls and enroll them to a real school when I see that they are ready.  After all, kaya ko naman ituro ang ABCs and 1-100!

The important thing is on instilling the love to learn.

Talaga sis? Gosh.. plan ko pa naman yung twins ko ipa gymboree.  Baka di kaya natakot siya?  Di pa din siya siguro ready with school parang yung anak ko.  When he started school at 3, hay... after 3 weeks na independently in school siya (w/o us) bigla lang ayaw na pumasok ng classroom w/o kasama.

Yung yaya (or even me or daddy niya pag day-off ni yaya) nasa loob ng classrom nila for 6 months! Kaloka!  Kilala kami ng mga kids! haha!

Siya lang nag decided after several prodding (na di na kami kasya sa classroom)... to be left alone na.

my eldest daughter started school (Nursery) at 4 y/o. she was sooo ready for it. i left her at her school on her first day, no seperation anxiety whatever

I feel so sad right now.

We enrolled my 3 years and 2-month old kid sa summer reading and writing class on a nearby school, in preparation for June. The school is known for its good reputation- 100% placement on the big schools, whatnot.
My son was very excited to attend his classes on the first few weeks but these past days, ayaw na nya bigla!
May teacher kasi na strict and wouldn't even smile to her toddler students. And what's even worse is walang playground or even a piece of swing or slide man lang sa school campus.

Yayas and parents are not even allowed to stay inside the premise. Nakakalungkot lang cos my son's enthusiasm to go to school was killed by the school mismo. Very traditional kasi sila there. Not even a single colorful graffiti was painted inside the classroom walls! And they even have exams!

The teacher talked to my Husband and said that my son is playful and would refuse to write during class hours. Eh pano naman, they don't even play games inside. A kid is still a kid and with a very short attention span. Geez!

Anyway, I just vented out. My Husband and I decided not to send him to school muna come June. We might try Gymboree classes muna, as suggested by a cousin, but we're from Bulacan and it's not very practical for us.
Now if it's worth the hassle and if he'll enjoy it, we will enroll him.

Kime, the school is not a good fit for your son, in which case find another school.

Little boys talaga are playful, have short attention span and are really a handful.  If a preschool teacher does not have the patience or temperament to deal with playful kids, she has no business being a preschool teacher.

Based on your description of the school facilities, it seems that the school is not child-friendly.  Walang playground?   A young kid wouldn't really be motivated to go to school kung may masungit na teacher+ no playground + the classroom is not a happy place.  And do not even get me started on exams.  I am totally against worksheets, homework and yes, tests, for very young kids in preschool.  What is the point of all those things except to cause undue stress on a kid?

^ Exactly! The school is Darwin International School. A known school here in Bulacan. There's a Montessori school naman here in Malolos, but my problem there is that walang aircon- and Matt insists na he wants a classroom na may AC dahil he sweats easily.

I never thought that school-hunting, especially in the province, can be very stressful.

My daughter started attending Saturday toddler school when she was 18 months old. She is an incoming Kinder 2 student in a big school this June.  She will be 4.5 years old in June.

My 21 month old son will be starting a 3x/week toddler class in June (whole school year).

Kimebies - I'm a bit appalled by the school that you described.  No colorful stuff, no playground for kids? What kind of pre-school is that? I absolutely agree with Marose!

Kime, Darwin International School sounds familiar.  I think the nephews of sis quixotic used to study there.

Kime, I would also suggest sitting-in sa class muna before you enroll him the next time.. para you'll have a look and feel of the school and observe the teachers as well.. apart from the "school meets good standards" ay dapat "teachers meet students" din dapat.. big factor sa akin ang mga attitude ng teachers and ang facilities ng school.. ang hirap nga sa bulacan area specifically sa Malolos.. we might send our son to Pinas to study pero kasi nga Malolos kami.. wala ako idea sa mga schools din.. thanks sa feedback about Darwin..

i run my own in-home childcare, and my son was 15 m/o when i started with it. I tried putting him into a childcare before, but apparently i didn't like how they handle the kids. And since i studied ECE din naman, I applied for an in-home childcare and got the necessary training as well. Once in a while, we join Music and movement or Wiggle and Rhyme run by local libraries.

ratacutie: I think the school is more like a traditional one. They give exams to 3-year olds, homeworks and doesn't even let them play inside the classroom! I once asked the guard why they don't have swings and slides, sabi nya, para iwas accident sa kids. So naisip ko, the school doesn't want a lot of responsibilities. Such a dismay lang.

Marose: Their main branch is in Sta Maria and they branched out here in Malolos. I dunno about the main branch but the one here in Malolos is such a dismay. I hear a lot of negative feedbacks regarding that school pero I shrugged it off since I wanna see for myself. I was, and still am, very disappointed.

Pia: Hirap nga talaga to scout school in the province. If we were based in Manila lang, then it will be a lot easier. Pero there's a Montessori school in the town proper and I might as well check its facilities. Ang ayaw ko lang kasi doon walang sufficient parking space and pag-labas ng kids, main road na agad. And the campus is relatively tiny. Hay, I didn't know there's a lot to consider pala when choosing the right school.

Kime - yung big school ngayon ng daughter ko (she's been there since last school year), is a traditional school.  However, Kinder 1 and Kinder 2 each have of their own playground.  Halos everyday, may playground time sila.  That's why I dont believe that just because it's a traditional school, wala na silang playground.  In my daughter's school, they even have a "role-playing" corner as well as a puppet theater na maliit. Weird talaga yun sis na wala silang ganun.  I also went to 2 traditional schools in GS and HS, yung sa GS ko, sagana sa playground. Plus, pag GS talagang marami silang colorful stuff na naka decorate sa walls, lockers. Parang napaka anti-children nung school na dinescribe mo haha.

my daughter started when she was 2yrs and 11 mos at Gymboree (the preschool program and not the regular classes). I'd say I can see alot of improvements since she started going to school everyday. she used to be mahiyain but now she very sociable.

my daughter was 2+ when I enrolled her on a Satuday class. location wise, okay sya. their class schedule fits ours din so it was alright. after 6 months we stopped. I wanted to enroll her sa big school with daily classes but we did the math at parang nanghinayang ako, in short nagkuripot. LOL. we are transferring flat na din and we don't know where we'll live next, it might be far from the school so I decided to just wait until we can settle down.

my daughter really missed going to school, kaka konsensya minsan pero she has to wait. buti na lang may sunday school sa church, nakaka bawi and we do some activities at home too pra may pinagkaka abalahan sya.

Als, Sofia still at gymboree til now? parang for 1 year din talaga ang program na kinuha mo? kasi i think pwede din few months lang noh?

wow Kime, kakaiba naman ang school na yan walang playground. mga preschools dito aside from playground on "white" sand, they even have dedicated area for biking pra naman ma develop ang mental and physical development ng kids. really rare.

yeah, you really have to do a lot of research before choosing the best school for the todd. andami ding considerations.

ratacutie: Yup! Sort of an anti-enjoyment yung school na yun. Nakakainis talaga. And the snob teacher na very strict-- my son used to let us drop and just pick him up na lang pagkatapos, di na sya nagpapabantay even sa nanny kasi hindi rin naman makakapasok. But the last few days, ayaw na paiwan. There's this one instance pa na hinatid ko sya sa school with his nanny and baby sister, ayaw nya bumaba sa car. He was crying and telling me that we go home na lang. My car has no tint pa naman so we drove home na lang, everybody's eyes are on us. Siguro natatakot sya dun sa supladita na teacher. Kasi nga he's playful so ang theory ko, maybe the teacher threatened him or something. Anyway, di ko na sya ulit pinapasok dun.

Haps: Yes Mars, we were looking for a prospect townhouse na near Ateneo, since we didn't push through on getting the condo, despite the 25K non-refundable down-payment. Sayang. My ILs kasi prefer a house rather than a condo unit.
Pero I never intend to send Matt to MNL this early, naaawa naman ako na magkalayo kami. I'm still studying and still have a year to go. And it's a blessing in disguise na rin na hindi muna sya papasok this school year- at least when I'm finished with Dental school, I can monitor his schooling na. I have more time to teach and monitor him. And more time to research na rin for a better alternative to Darwin.

my daughter started going to school at exactly 4 years old. kinder na agad. she already knew how to read and write then, i taught her myself. junior prep at 5, grade one at 6. she's turning 7 in a couple of weeks, mag-grade 2 na siya.

Kime, there are many good preschools near Ateneo.  Sinuyod ko dati ang mga iyan haha.   But really, QC, especially Katipunan-Loyola Heights-Diliman area, is brimming with good schools.
