Meron bang FSO dito?  (Foreign Service Officer)

I'm wondering what the salary grade/take home pay of a starting FSO is.  I'm trying to see if it's worth a career shift or if I'm better off in the private sector.

Does anyone know?  Thanks!

^^My fiance is an FSO IV.  Salary grade is 24 or 22 ata. His gross income is 42K a month.  Next year tataas pa daw ata kasi last tranche nung SSL.

If you're planning to take the FSE, it'll probably take 2 years waiting time.  Fiance took his exam in 2009, passed in 2010, and his training started this July lang.  I suggest na pasok ka muna sa private sector, and try to take the FSE at the same time.

^Well, I'm already in the private sector, although I used to work at the DFA.  I was supposed to take it in '05 and even passed the preliminary exam, but I got too comfy in the private sector that I didn't continue.  Now I'm 33 turning 34, so I really have to pass this time around.

FSO IV is the lowest (entry level) right?  42k per month gross?  Pwede na.

Thanks for the info!

I  am an FSO. Salary grade for FSO class IV (entry level) is SG 24 which is almost 46k a month (inclusive of PERA).

Mr. Punch, you worked for the DFA before? Baka magkakilala tayo ;) Been with the Department since 2003 ;)

FUDGE! Doon sa "International Affairs" part, there were three questions on economics that I totally didn't know the answer to.

Mga sis, meron po ba dito from gsis? From Lto kasi si tatay ko and mag retire na sya by 2014. First prob, wala syang birth cert. then pag magpa late register, 1946 pala birth year nya but ginagamit nya officially on his transactions is 1949. Yun ang record nya sa gsis. Kaya may conflict talaga. Worried lang ako baka hindi pa sya makatanggap retirement benefits because of this.

Any feedback mga sis? Thanks very much!

anong latest sa SSL? Diba last tranche na ng increase ang supposedly iggrant this year? Parang in passing nakita ko sa news iimplement na raw, or rather pwedeng igrant by June?

(parang what else is new anyway, itong increase ay granted naman na 4 years ago, and PNoy is making a big hype out of it, claiming na 'gift' daw yun..gift ba yung expected mo naman nang matatanggap, and which is already due you?)

^ One thing you have to know about those vacancy postings by government offices is that they are required by law to post their job vacancies even if the positions would eventually be filled by internal hires.

If you have no experience working for the government, syempre, wala ka ding training hours.  In government, seniority is the rule, and even if you are 10 times better than an internal candidate, yung internal pa rin ang pipiliin kung meron siyang "training hours".

When I first worked for a government office, i swallowed my pride and started out as a lowly clerk.

I guess swert ako na they kept their word na ipo-promote ako once I acquire enough experience as a clerk.

In some instances naman, the opposite happens.

I was fresh out of college nun nagstart sa government, and since technical ang degree/course ko, I landed a technical position. Kaya it depends really on your qualifications. I think the hiring process really starts with pooling of ALL qualified applicants, whether internal (current employees of the govt agency) or external.

Goodluck sis!  :)
