^actually sis may naging ka-tie yung daughter ko.  17 slots out of 25 na nag-tie.  Yun nga yung naging determining factor namin if we would give up 1 year na ibalik siya sa kinder or mag-grade 1 na lang siya sa MSA.   We just really gave it a try.  Sabi namin ng hubby ko we'll just decide pag lumabas na results.  Ayun, fortunately her name got picked courtesy of her dad kaya nanghinayang naman kami kung di namin patutuluyin sa UPIS.   Mahaba pa naman preparation time mo so don't worry too much about it sis.  Balitaan mo ako pag nakapasok anak mo ha.

^onga sis, maaga aga pa...medyo pinapabayaan ko pa siya, pero mga January siguro  subsob kami..haha. sana lang may time pakong turuan siya that time, ngayon kasi part time work lang ako kaya may oras ako sa anak ko. Baka may full time work nako in few months.

^sis, daddy kasi niya bumunot nung nag-draw kasi nga marami silang nag-tie.  Grabe nga daw kaba ng hubby ko, kaya sabi niya ituloy na daw namin sa UP kasi di daw biro pinagdaanan niya.  Feeling ko nga kung ako bumunot baka mahimatay ako sa sobrang pressure.  Sana lang kasi hind ganun yung tie-breaker nila.

sino dito ang nakapagtake ng exam na to? o may anak, kapatid, pinsan, pamangkin o kakilala na nagtake nito?

balak ko kasing ipagtake ang pamangkin ko ng admission test sa upis next year. 5 years and 8 months old siya sa june 2013. pasok ang age niya sa requirement kung hindi babaguhin ang range (5 1/2 - 6 1/2 years old).

ano-ano ang mga kailangang alam na ng bata bago magtake ng exam? totoo bang filipino ang language ng instructions at kailangan, marunong ng magbasa? pwedeng magbigay kayo ng idea kung ano-ano ang mga sasagutan nila sa exam at itatanong sa interview? i heard, may interview rin daw.

^from memory, most items are like yung pages in activity books. Color by numbers (dapat alam na nya colors and maayos magcolor), matching objects with functions or object-object, girl things vs. boy things, etc. dapat may idea si kid mo about school, kahit yung set up man lang or itsura ng school. Also marunong mag read and proficient in tagalog. Ang number one makalagas ng examinees dito eh yung following ng instructions and patience/perseverance ng bata. Ang sasabihin kasi ng examiner, "pag hindi alam ang sagot, skip.". Syempre ang bata gusto nang umuwi, skip skip skip nalang.

True about the interview, ask lang yung personal details, and then family things. Tignan kung bibo si kid and kung anong personality if ready na talaga for school. May observation period din where they get to play with other kids for about alf an hour. Yung social interaction important.

From my time, tumatanggap pa ng new students ang UPIS na inc 1st year highschool. Ngayon is kinder na lang. So from Kinder to Grade 10, iisang mukha lang makikita ng mga students, same classmates for more than 10 years. Well may nadadagdag minsan na new students pero usually pa isa isa lang and mga athletes sila. Parang athletic scholarship.

Pero wala yatang matino na basketball scholar dahil hindi manalo nalo ang UPIS sa UAAP Juniors

^ Ah, yes sis.. nung time ko rin, tinawagan ako ng UPIS to enter high school kasi nagpullout ng students from them to Pisay. Waiting list ako non so kami next in line. Kaso late na yon, naka 2-3 weeks nako sa Quesci so ayoko na rin umalis.

So ngayon pala kinder nalang talaga ang gateway. Parang mas bet ko naman yung may entrance exam din for high school.

Sa Pisay kasi may stipend allowance, sa UPIS wala. Sila lang naman ang State High School na usually magkalaban sa students.

I think last year or the year before they accepted 1st year students. A son of my friend got in. Better inquire if interested.

Hi everyone! My daughter will take the exam this year. I am very very excited and nervous for her at the same time. My brother graduated from UPIS. I have cousins who are currently in UPIS too. I want my daughter to pass but I'm a little worried because she has poor study habits. She's turning 6 this February. She's a very witty girl. However, she lacks enthusiasm when it comes to reading and writing. Her drawing skill is exceptional, though. But as we know, kids who will be considered in UP should be able to read and write well. Everyday after school, I personally tutor her in reading and writing. She would read and write, but only so she could go back to drawing. Her handwriting looks like the letters were headed to Baguio, IYKWIM. I'd like to ask tips on how to make my kid read and write better so she'd have a better chance to pass.

PS, I read the entire thread. Some posts were from years back. I know there's a slim chance for kids of Non-UP employees to get in, but hey! We should all be happily hopeful! Good vibes attract good vibes. So do not be disheartened without even trying. And even after trying, cheer up!

my daughter will be taking this year KAT, February 5 pa ang schedule namin to process the application, kailangan ko palang turuan mabuting magbasa. sana isa sya sa 40 students na makapasok. good luck to us mommies.

i know a lot of kids from 'The 40' who didn't grow up to be so bright. :p i guess it's best to try your luck na din, minsan nadadaan sa tsamba, tiyaga and charisma. lalo na ngayon their curriculum iba na and mas madali compared sa dati, pababa ng pababa tuloy ang UPCAT passing rate. if i were to have a child, i wouldn't enroll him or her sa UPIS na. something has changed and it's not as good as it used to be.

hi mommies! I'm a newbie here and I would like to know if the entrance exam in UPIS is in English or Filipino medium because my son in having a hard time understanding Tagalog. any idea pls.

^ Tagalog. besides, mode of teaching in UPIS is in Tagalog. kahit maipasa ang test, your child has to be proficient in Tagalog to be able to understand in class.

Good thing I found this thread. This is really helpful. My son is turning 4 years old this August and mag start na siya sa Nursery this coming school year. My son has still 2 years to prepare. =)

Question lang. Sorry I have no idea talaga kasi If saan merong UPIS? Sa QC lang ba or meron din sa Visayas? Or sa lahat ng UP schools ba?

Hi mommies! My kid finished taking the exam earlier today. First batch sila ng examinees. I was just kinda disappointed kasi may time schedule na binigay, pero hindi siya masyado nasunod. My kid was scheduled for the 7am exam. Pero kasama niya ang mga 7.30 and 8am examinees. Okay lang sakin, naawa lang ako dun sa mga nakaschedule na kasama nya pero naunahan ng mga pang-8am. The exam took about an hour to finish. Hindi na maalala ng anak ko ano mga inexam nila. Yung playing after the exam ang naalala nya. hehe
