Transferring schools
« on: January 14, 2011, 12:50:43 am »
My son has been with San Beda for 3 and half years now and I am happy with their teaching method and everything. It never crossed my mind to transfer him to any other school until recently. My husband's work is based in Clark, Pampanga and he asked me if we can transfer my son to OB Montesorri there. Confused ako ngayon whether to transfer my son or not. Syempre he already made friends and he's doing well in school kaya worried ako sa magiging adjustments nya if ever. Wala naman kami plan na mag-settle sa Clark for good pero just so we can stay together everyday naging option ang pag-transfer ng school. We have plans to go abroad in the future and it means another transfer. Ano ba pwede maging effect ng pag-transfer-transfer ng schools? Well for one, no permanent friends.

Please share your views and opinions :) thanks!

Hi mdy, where are you from?  I think were from the same area.

regarding transferring schools.  it is a risk and depends on the child's temperament and readiness.  there are kids who easily adjust to new situations and are sociable by nature, then transferring adn having friends is not a problem for them.  if the child tends to take time to adjust to new experiences, sorroundings and shows separation anxiety, then this is where you have to consider that option.  the effect may depend on the personality of your child.  the differences of the school structure is secondary to it.

also, is your child doing well academically in San Beda, and you think the school is perfect fit for you child?  Assess what is important for you - being with hubby, child's welfare in the school, the school itself.  Your child may get confused, but it would depend on his mental capacity, emotional preparedness to the new school and ability to process the new experience.  you have a crucial role here to prepare your child and to explain all the possible changes, the new experience and to ease out the transition phase in case you opt to transfer your child. :)

Kasi nga english raw ang medium of instruction so ayun mahirap daw ipasok yun.

In short, yung mabuting asal d lang sa bahay tinuturo dapat sana tulungan between school and home.

Sa ngayon, well as of last fri, ok naman sya na magtrnasfer na.

if you have plans of transferring, its better na i-set nyo yung mind nya maaga pa lang. wag yung biglaan nyo sya ita-transfer. saka kinda orient nyo din sya about sa school na lilipatan nya and syempre the reason why he/she transferring in a way na maintindihan nya.

eldest ko din, has no permanent school aslo. i mean, nung ako kasi ang bata, from pre school to high school, isa lang ang school ko. :-)

her first school, sa WESTFIELDS INTL SCHOOL (angeles, pampanga), kinder to grade2. so 4years, same friends/classmates. nagtransfer lang kami because aabutin na sa P100k/year ang grade3 niya. that time, im about to give birth to our second baby din, kaya the next school year, we took the risk of transferring her to a new private school kahit na mahirap sa part ng daughter ko, adjusting to a new community. friendly naman siya pero mahiyain kaya nag alala din ako. tsaka para hindi kami mahirapan sa budget. we spent P35k/year for grade3 sa new school.

second school, L'Altra Montessori School, Inc. (angeles, pampanga), grade3 to grade4. nakasundo naman niya agad mga classmates niya. 2years lang because kailangan nanaman namin mag transfer, here in UAE, para makasama namin si hubby.

present school, The New Filipino Private School, (ajman, UAE). grade5. medyo mahal, 5800aed/year, mga P68k satin sa pinas. ganun din, mabilis naka close din niya agad mga classmates niya. very welcoming naman kasi sila. pero baka tapusin lang namin ang grade6, then lumipat nanaman kami for high school, sa dubai. hindi pa naman sure. :-)

i transferred all my girls to a new school when they were incoming gr. 4, gr. 2 and prep. at first they were hesistant kesyo mamimiss ang mga friends but after a year or so when i tell them that i will transfer them to a cheaper school (kasi mahal ang nilipatan nila) ...nag oobject agad ayaw daw nila. when they were new in the school i was always around to assure them that everything willl be alright and i think that helped too. they have many friends  and enjoy their school now.
