What happens in a civil wedding ceremony? Do you need to memorize anything? And do you have to pay the solemnzing officer or a gift will do?

Hi rowan! Just finished my civil wedding last Thursday, officiated by a Judge. We only pay 300php for the Judge, no gifts or anything. I don't know of it will be the same case for solemnizing officers.

Re memorizing of something. No need, you will just answer with 'Yes' in every question.

^Sis kami eto breakdown. Civil Wedding (special schedule) in office of the mayor, but solemnizing officer was a reverend:

Marriage License Application - 1,000 (including CENOMAR and other fees)
Wedding Ring - 15,000 (14k white gold, with diamonds). May family jeweler kami so nakamura kami. at pina-reset ko yung style nung nagchurch wedding kami.
Bride's Attire - 5,000 (kahit naman civil wedding lang, pinangarap ko din magsuot ng white long dress)
Groom's Attire - 1,400 (we just bought him new long sleeves and tie. May coat na kasi sya)
Reception - 20,000 (for 40 pax)
Other Expenses - 2,000 (gifts for principal sponsors)

Total: 44,400

After a year, we had our church wedding. Nasa 500k naman nagastos namin.

Just claimed our marriage license.

At our civil wedding, we will have only 2 attendees who will also serve as witnesses. No celebrations whatsoever, since our purpose is really only to be husband and wife in the eyes of the law. We intend to have a nice church wedding next year anyway.

That said, we still want a "decent"civil wedding -- one that I won't feel cheap or bad about. After all, the date of the civil wedding is the anniversary date. We might still take pictures, so at the minimum, sana maganda man lang yung room. As far as I know, salas of judges aren't exactly pretty...

Any suggestions? Pag mayor, where does he/she hold the ceremony?

I think it depends if may kasabay kayo na ikakasal. Kasi kami may kasabay na 2 pair so it was held sa chapel inside our Municipal Hall. Nakakatuwa nga kasi mukhang "kinasal sa simbahan" pag tinitignan namin yung mga pictures because of the background. Hahah. Yung friend ko naman sa mismong office ni Mayor since wala silang kasabay na ikakasal that time. And my elder sister's naman was held sa isang malaking function room sa Munisipyo pa din kasi ang dami nilang kasabay, like more than 10 pairs silang ikakasal.

Actually sis, wala namang dress code. Meron kaming nakita na naka-simpleng dress lang for the bride and polo for the groom. Meron nga nakapants pa yung girl. Kung saan kayo comfy. Ako kasi gusto ko puting mahaba, kaya bumili kami ng wedding dress.

What's the usual token given to a judge? Cash or gift or wala? Any suggestions? This is on top of the P1,000.00 solemnization fee.

Dapat wala nanaman talaga but in our case, we requested for this particular judge as I was told she can easily accommodate our preferred schedule. Then, we found out pa na this judge and my mom kinda know each other so we gave her a L'Occitane gift pack worth 3k. But honestly I didnt really had plans of giving her one, naisip ko lang bumili ng gift when we passed by the L'Occitane shop haha.

Hi! We're planning to have a civil wedding this March. Wala nang reception, for the sake of legalities nalang talaga since 5 years na kami nagsasama and magdadalawa na anak namin.

Pa help naman mga sis, saan ba kami pwede maghanap ng judge na mag-oofficiate ng rites? Paano ba makahanap? Yun nalang prob namin since sabi pag nagsasama na for 5 years, no need for marriage license, kailangan lang magpagawa ng affidavit na live-in kami for 5 years. So ayun, yung judge nalang talaga...

no need to memorize anything. most of the time we were just listening to the reverend and he will tell you what to do or reply naman. yes we paid him 3K plus kasama sya sa kainan
