a highly effective technique of toning these "side pockets" of flab that one can do whilst viewing a series marathon or even inside the shower (if there;s ample space) is to do sideward leg lifts on each side. It's a modified abdominal crunch that targets the obliques by standing on one leg then the other is raised with the knee bent and pointing upwards. Leg raises is done simultaneously with the arm of the same side extended upwards and is flexed and brought lower till the elbow nearly touches the bent knee.

Balancing could be troublesome at first for beginners but as one gets used to it, it 's gonna be a breeze as the effort to sustain equilibrium is drawn from tightening of targeted ab muscles. And that's also when a leaner, more svelte waist becomes noticeable ;)

^how is this highly effective?

Spot training is a myth. You cannot target exercise one part of your body since you lose fat as a whole.

You can do 1000x sidebends but if the layer of fat is still there useless lang.

having a calorie deficit will burn your fat. You achieve this with decreasing food intake and speeding it up with full body exercise (but not spot exercise).

^well it's more than effective for me. And although i didnt use the phrase "burn the flab", instead I opted for "toning", you must've misconstrued it as the same thing. What I actually just wanted to suggest and pertain to is toning the target muscle (by making it stronger and firmer) to achieve that elusive curvaceous waist.

Of course, it only becomes plausible with adjunctive cardio exercise and restrictive diet. I had to be emphatic about said technique as I find it to be the easiest and a favorably probable way of firming the obliques, and in no uncertain terms that Im dismissing the other elemental factors in completely ridding the body of love handles. Coz like you said, it certainly doesnt work that way.

a thousand sidebends? dont you think that might actually work? doing it whilst standing, in itself, is already considered an aerobic work-out.

toning the target muscle (by making it stronger and firmer) to achieve that elusive curvaceous waist.

This "toning" term you're using is wrong. Click below to understand better:

Can you really tone your body?

In physiology, medicine, and anatomy, muscle tone  is the continuous and passive partial contraction of the muscles. It has nothing to do with the shape or your waist.

Muscles either 1.) grow or 2.) shrink. You cannot tone your muscles.

I know you're smart because you talk like a robot and if you have an open mind and do research, I'm sure you'll get it.

haaay...paano yun? I'm not considerably overweight, actually I'm happy with my weight now, it's just that I do have those "love handles" and flab in the arms...
so if I lose weight by cardio and calorie deficit diet, will my love handles decrease in size along with the rest of my body?  What if the trim and taut tummy I want to achieve can only be reached when I'm underweight???? :-\  So confused!

^sis it's not just about losing weight. What's more important is the proper body composition of fat and muscle.

^exactly my point, sis.  Thats why it got me confused..if you want to lose those flabs, you must do cardio in combination with calorie deficit dieting, which, would make you lose weight in other parts as well, including the face.  Just so frustrating how people tell you "you're fat" when you wear sleeveless, and tells you otherwise when wearing tshirts with sleeves...di ba???? grrr! :P

Hi sisses...Spot training is good for attaining toned abs...but not for losing the fat.  If you do spot training you'll form the muscles underneath...HOWEVER it will not get rid of the layer of fat on top, so hindi rin kita.

Do both if you want the perfect abs.  Cardio 4-6times a week then every other day spot training.  You can't workout your abs everyday either, you have to give time for your muscles to recover otherwise it won't properly form either. :)

I don't think the waist trimmer will work.  Sweating alone is not a basis of losing weight other than water weight - meaning you're not getting rid of real fat but just water, which can be gained and lost on a day-to-day basis, also the reason bakit nagflaflactuate yung weight natin allthrough out the day. When I was in high school I tried that...my mom bought it for me, naniniwala pako dati.  I had it on all the time, specially when I slept.  For months, I didn't lose fat and just gained some rashes due to my skin suffucating...hahaha

Walang fat na lumalabas sa pawis.  The misconception of sweating related to weight loss is because when you work out, you sweat.  It's not the other way around. ^.^

Effective din naman sis kung mag cardio ka for 30 minutes. Tpos mag core training ka na target sa love handles. Like obliques and abdominal exercise. Search kanalang sa net ng mga ganun na exercise. Gawin mo kada isang exercise do at least 25 times tpos 3 repetition everyday. Mababawasan yan in months.

it's cardio and diet, like everyone says. weight training can also help in general since building lean muscle helps you burn more calories and fat even at rest.

I've noticed people say to sweat it out, use wait trimmers, exercise suits, and so on.

The truth is, sweating has little to do with fat loss. all you're losing is water weight. More sweat doesn't mean more calories burned. it's just the way our body regulates heat.

Just focus on the intensity of your workouts and proper form, and a clean diet and the fat will eventually go away.  it's just that some body parts are more "stubborn" than others.
