hello mga mommies! :) nandito na naman ako para mang-istorbo.

inputs naman sa aming dilemma: (medyo mahaba lang, sorry)

hubby and i went here in SG to try our luck. we plan to work here for a few years lang, basta alam nyo na kung bakit nag-aabroad :)
actually hubby got hired na pala while sa pinas palang. so mid january andito na kami. iniwan muna namin ang 1.5yr old baby namin habang di pa kami settled. :'( while he works, ako naman apply-apply. nagkataon pa na vacation mode naman ang Singapore since CNY na. Frustrating kasi walang interested sa mga applications ko. 1 week wala talagang tawag. then i came across a job opening na i really like at pinagdasal ko talaga. we we're hesitant narin by this time kung tuloy pa namin ang plan here in SG coz we terribly miss our baby. almost everyday iniiyakan ko. si hubby din walang kagana-gana sa buhay dito dahil nga parang walang saysay dahil wala si baby. we know about the adjustment period, we thought we are prepared for it, hindi pala.

anyway, i got an interview with the job i really like. interview went well kaso they told me to wait after CNY if gusto na nila ako. so i prayed nalang na if matanggap ako dito, sign na ni God yun for us na continue ang plan namin. kaso i have to wait 2 whole weeks for the result. isang araw nga lang dito di ko kinakaya coz i was never apart from my son this long. di rin nakakatulong si hubby sa fighting spirit kasi sya mismo di nya kaya :'( so i prayed again. I said, God if its not too much to ask, let me know sooner kung ano talaga plan. ayun before cny i was called again for an interview (same company), this time job offer na sya pero di ako natuwa sa salary offer. as in sukdulan ang baba. so i turned it down. i told them nalang na the salary won't be enough to meet the expenses here but it was a very heartbreaking decision coz i really like the opportunity. (echos! ;))

i had several phone interviews pero wala na akong gana. i told God nalang na if we stay here uncertain when we would be able to see our son again, we won't risk it na. we're giving up. For the sake of being with our son, yes we would give up our career. many nights din ang discussion namin ni hubby about this. kasi ok naman kami sa pinas, career wise and di naman kami naghihirap.

so we booked our flight this saturday. these past few nights di na ko makatulog sa sobrang excited :D

hubby's boss doesn't want to let him go but he understand our situation. he asked him if ever we would come back in SG, he's still welcome in their company. he even offered a "temporary" job for me para lang mag-stay kami sa sg. (ayaw talaga pakawalan si hubby). mind you, temporary lang ang job pero malaki sweldo :) sabi namin we would think about it, pero this time we really want to see and be with our son.

kanina lang, nagparamdam na naman yung company na gusto ko. they are offering me a higher salary and asking if I'm still interested. sabi ko if the price is right. hehe, syempre mabulaklak pa pero in short ganun :D well, ok naman yung offer na. i mean, enough na sya pero mas malaki parin yung sa "temporary job" pero syempre I wouldn't want to work in the same company where my husband works. same department pa naman. so eto, excited na umuwi pero di parin alam if we will accept the offers. kay hubby kasi naka-hold yung IPA nya just in case bumalik sya. yung sa akin naman, pag nag-oo ako dito i need to start by march na and be binded with the 2 years contract. buti pa kila hubby walang ganun.

so i need your inputs if you think our plan is ok. we go back to pinas, if we plan to accept the job offers, we'll go back here in SG bitbit na si baby and yaya. (hubby and I promised that we will never leave our son EVER AGAIN!!!) do you think possible kami makakuha ng place to stay and settle before march? also the papers pa that we need especially for yaya. ready naman lahat (passports, certificates, etc) OR leave SG nalang? we're not really that "amazed" with SG to tell you honestly. hubbby thinks it's stressful to live in pero baka nga lang yun ang feeling namin because di kami masaya without our baby here. to all with families here, any inputs about your life here? i know stressful ang work dito kasi compared sa pinas medyo nakaka-relax tayo sa office doon. dito parang seryoso work talaga. how do you balance your work and family? pansin ko lang kasi dito parang laging pagod ang parents from work at di na masyadong nabibigyan ng time ang mga kiddos. (we're currently staying at my hubby's tita and nakikita ko sa kanila ang buhay pamilya)

gosh super haba na neto. sorry kung sumisingit ako dito. gusto ko kasi inputs ng mommies coz somehow you know what i feel about being apart with your child. and doing all these sacrifices and hardwork for their future, diba.

anyway, thank you for the time you spent reading my loooong kwento. well wishes!

^sis, if i were you, i'd take na lang the job offer here in sg and bring w/ you your baby and yaya. life here in sg is not that bad naman as you think it is. almost 3 years na kami dito w/ hubby and my almost 1 yr old baby and so far, life here is treating us good. mas simple and peaceful ang buhay namin dito compared sa pinas and kung hindi lang mahigpit mag-apply for PR, we're gonna apply sana. i'm not working (i'm a stay at home mom) pero we get by naman, so what more kung 2 pa kayo ni hubby magwork di ba? i'm sure mas malaki savings nyo. also, di rin naman stressful work ni hubby so don't fear na mawawalan na kayo ng time kay baby. di naman lahat ng work dito stressful.

re sa paglipat ng house, madali lang naman makahanap. just search in pinoysg, madami dun. kung wala pa kayong makita, madami naman transient jan. hope this helps.

^^ sis i have the same opinion as sis trendy. ok din naman ang feedbacks ko from friends as well as my husband's friends who have their entire family here (daughters, sons, mothers, fathers, MILs, FILs). when i came here last year, i tagged along my 2 month old son because i can't stand the distance. stressful daw ang life dito? subjective yan at di naman lahat ng trabaho ay stressful. with my line of work (audit/tax), mas stressfull sa pinas. don't worry too much. as for the yaya, i think kailangan mo dumaan ng agency to get one. not sure if you can bring your yaya for long term dito. pwede sya for short term (as tourist then extend extend na lang) just in case, things don't turn that good for your family here, you can always go back to the philippines.

@mauigs - salamat dear! check din namin dyan.

^d ata pwede kumuha ng kasangbahay dito ng hindi pr/citizen if i'm not mistaken :)

^^^SG is a good stepping stone naman in fairness if you want to migrate elsewhere. just like you, me & my husband just relocated here and magoone yr palang kami. hindi pang long term ang singapore, IMO. but since may balak kami ni hubby lumipat elsewhere tiis nalang muna kasi wala rin naman kami mapapala sa sweldo namin sa pinas. doube check with the yaya, kasi i don't think pwede kayo mag hire ng yaya, HOWEVER, if pr/citizen na yung tita ni hubby, maybe she can just hire the yaya for you :) i-weigh nyo pros and cons, if both you and hubby aren't happy with how life goes here, kahit gano pa kalaki ang salary nyo dito i dont think na it'll work.

@antagonist - Major decision talaga yung pag-relocate... tingin ko, basta naman kasama nyo son nyo dito sa SG-- makakaya nyo na any challenges as a family :) hindi lang talaga siguro kayo emotionally ready sa 1st try nyo dito.
In my case, dito na kasi ko nanganak then pinakiusapan ko talaga mom ko to take care of my daughter kahit 1st year (mag-6mos na baby ko) lang so talagang hindi kami naghiwa-hiwalay and so far so good. Minsan lang nga talaga stressful sa work (both working kami ni hubby, IT field) pero keri naman, nakakapag-dinner pa din kami ni hubby ng sabay.... nalalaro si daughter sa gabi then pag weekends- family day, gala kung saan

Weight your options sis and be ready on the consequences of what your decision would be... Blessings to your family

@emchie - kung gusto mo catered, another option aside from condo function rooms are chalet. May mga na-attendan na din akong kiddie parties na sa chalet (madami located sa east coast, downtown east, so on...)  ginawa, other venue available kasi- masyadong pricey ang rental (IMO ko lang)
Wait natin sagot ng iba pang mommies dito :)

@antagonist - cyber hugs to you.

i asked hubby to read your post. coz you were in the same shoes before.  he went here without us.  everyday daw iniisip nya kung pano malulusutan yung bond nya para uwi na lang daw sya.  when he went here it was the longest that we were not together. after 3months, me and my daughter went here for a vacation. nung umuwi kami, that was when we decided na susunod na kami (earlier than planned).  mahirap talaga pag di magkakasama.  i didnt want him to go back to pinas coz in terms of career growth, wala na syang maaasahan sa pinas. i went here even if kaka-start ko lang sa bagong company din and it was a promising job.  syempre marami kaming ni-give up when we joined him here.  esp coz im now a stay at home mom.

re: work
i think the first year in a new job is really very stressful.  lalo na kung magka-iba ng culture ang new and old job. kahit naman sa pinas, may mga trabahong sobrang stressful at merong petiks lang. dito seryosong work talaga kasi dapat naman sineseryoso ang work. sa pinas lang yata sobrang laid back ang mga tao (siguro kaya din di umaasenso :().  and ang stresss subjective, nasa attitude din ng tao yan kung pano nya i-handle. kung papa-apekto ka, talo ka. at kung iuuwi mo ang stress ng trabaho, talo family.
hubby also sometimes works from home and sometimes on call even on weekends. pero pag wala na sya sa ofc, family time na lang talaga. marami naman syang time para sa amin.

SG is not VERY family friendly. kasi ang liit lang nya, so konti lang ma-o-offer.  but for me, it is OK - lalo na kung temporary home lang naman.  we are here for more than 2yrs but i think di pa namin napupuntahan lahat ng good spots. my daughter is almost 5yo, and madami din naman kaming nakikitang mga activities for her.  and like what sis trendy said, mas simple at peaceful din ang buhay namin dito. malayo sa intriga at gulo ng pinas.

you can hire a nanny even if you are not PR/citizen.  pero mas mapapanatag ka siguro if you will bring a family for the first few months.

go home, fix all the papers and come back here in SG as a family.
and based on your post, God already gave you the answer to your prayer. may dalawa ka ngang job offer :)

^amen mami kaye.

Halos lahat kami dito sa thread na ito, kasama ang family. Pero nakakayanan naman. Syempre adjust ka sa una pero pasasaan ba at malalampasan din yan pag magkakasama, kahit saan pa kayo mapunta. :)

antagonist, same sentiments with our SG Moms. First, maybe you need to ask yourself kung bakit mo gusto mag abroad. To pay debts? To invest? For a safer place sa baby nyo? For fun? Career Opportunity? If it's any consolation, wala ata akong kilala na pumunta ng SG na iniwan ang family sa pinas na hindi nag undergo ng same situation like yours. And all of them didn't regret being here. Just to make some notes about SG:

1. You can hire a maid even if you're not a PR or citizen.
2. If only of you is working with a $3.5k salary, you can survive. But no maid. And tipid mode. Pero keri.
3. If both of you are working and one of you has an income of at least $2.5k, you can afford to hire a maid.
4. SG can bring you to any country you like. This is if you have the passion to travel.
5. SG malls have baby rooms.
6. SG playgrounds are cleaner. Sa pinas may mga surot.
7. SG offers RENT-A-TOY for your child.
8. SG dollars do not inflate as much as peso.
9. SG will train your child to be independent. Makakakita ka ng bata na 7yrs old na nagcocommute alone.
10. SG is a small country but SG tries to come up with events for children and families. Disney on Ice is coming up on March.
11. In SG, you can save more than what you can kung sa pinas ka.
12. In general, since workaholic ang mga tao, meron yan advantage. Wala na silang oras sa chismis. I've been working here for almost 7yrs and hindi ko naranasan ang chismisan. Kaming mga pinoy lang yun.. hahaha
13. I think there are more job opportunities here.
14. When all else fails, GT SG Moms are here. Madalas kami magkaron ng EB and pag bdays ng mga babies, invited lahat :)

I really hope this helps. Do not hesitate to drop by this thread from time to time para maglabas ng sama ng loob. We'll help you out :)

emchie, nung party ni K nung december, nagustuhan daw nila yung spaghetti and chicken ng HAPPY-V. Sa lucky plaza na branch kami umorder. And since 2yrs old pa lang si baby, both parties were held at Normanton park communal hall (sa baba). I can help you book that hall if you need it :) $80 ata ang fee.. nakalimutan ko na.. hehe
