Amoxicillin for pregnant woman with UTI: is it really safe?

^ sis ganyan din ako takot uminom pero delikado kapag hindi natreat agad ang UTI kasi may effect talaga sa baby.. kaya ako sinunod ko lang ob gyne ko... sometimes kasi water therapy is not enough eh, depende sa UTI gaano ka severe.

amoxicillin is safe for pregnant women as discussed in our internal medicine class. May mga microorganisms, particularly E.coli na nag c cause ng uti, given na magkalapit lang ang female urethra at anus na nag  c cause ng infection

me too,My OB prescribed that too me pero sa takot ko ayun di ko ininom ang lalaki ba hehe!
What I did,since I know na hindi naman ganun kalala ang UTI ko Buko juice,cranberry juice at lahat ng juice na pwedeng makatulong to lessen or to lower my UTI...
Pero as per sissies advise here depende pa din kung how severe yung case ng UTI mo to be treated...

^i think it would be best to follow your doctor's orders. hindi naman sila magbibigay ng gamot na would harm the baby. drinking cranberry juice helps kase may antibacterial property ang cranberry na nakakapatay ng mga microorganisms.

my ob prescribed cefalin...she said it is milder and very safe for pregnant women but then i was on the third trimester that time...why not drink buko juice instead?

^i think apart from buko juice, it would be better for you to take your medications. Any infections for that matter crosses the placenta, so may chances na kapag di natreat un infection eh makuha din yun ng baby. Buko juice just helps clear the urine but it doesnt have any anti microbial property that kills the organism causing your infection.

I had UTI din when I was pregnant. My OB prescribed antibiotics pero I was already on my 3rd trimester that time, I'm just not sure kung safe yun sa 1st and 2nd tri preggos.

Thank goodness I came across this thread. I'm having menstrual like cramps in since my 26th week. 27th ko na now. Nun nagpa-check up ako, may slight UTI nga daw ako. Binigyan din ako ni OB ng med to be taken 3x/day for 1 week. Ayoko talaga magtake kaya dinadaan ko sa water therapy at buko juice. Pero now, base on our sisters' feedback, mas makakasama kay baby if di ito na-treat. I don't want to take chances. :-/

kapag di natreat ang uti, pwedeng mainfect si baby especially kung vaginal delivery. Worse case scenario, the baby can suffer from neonatal sepsis. Here's the link for neonatal sepsis:

Amoxicillin is one of the safest antimicrobial drugs that can be given during pregnancy. It does not cause any side effects that could endanger the developing fetus. Resorting to self medication and not following your ob's orders may do more harm to your baby.

hayyy tagal ko na naghahanap ng studies kung pwede ang CEFUROXIME for pregnant women.. buti napadpad ako dito. hehe.. 9weeks 5days pa lang ako nakita sa result ng urinalysis ko na ang taas ng pus cells ko super as in mga 24-26 ata. niresetahan ako ng cefuroxime. natakot ako so nag-try muna ako mag cranberry and buko juice pero di pa ko nakakapagpa-urinalysis uli. naka-ready naman yung gamot since we are selling medicines. pero dahil nalaman ko na mas delikado na hindi sundin si OB.. ayan iinom na ko. this is my 13th week now. so i am 3 weeks late sa pag inom ng gamot. sana hindi maapektuhan si baby.

mas delikado kasi pag lumala infection.

plus, buko juice and lots of water.

yup sis i'm on my 4th day na.. sana on friday clear na urinalysis ko. and pleasee sana naman di na bumalik UTI. kawawa si baby e.

^the only way to assure that you do not have uti is through urinalysis. normal ang uti during pregnancy.

just had urinalysis at 34th week and i have UTI and i was prescribed CEFUROXIME to be taken 2x a day for 7days. sana mawala na UTI ko. thought wala effect sa baby at normal lang ang UTI sa preggos

amox,ampi,cefalexin,cefu and co amox are safe.kahit hindi ka mag a/b sa UTI, wala ka parin kawala sis, kasi before and after you give birth iinjectionan ka rin ng a/b + oral meds din.there are a/b which are safe for preg women, kaya dapat talaga ask your OB before taking.mas dangerous kasi kapag hindi na treat ang UTI during pregnancy, it may affect the baby.

I was prescribed to take cefalexin according to my ob it won't harm our baby naman. I just hope after taking this for the last 7 days I would be free from UTI. Please Lord.

My ob also explained that if UTI wasn't treated it could affect the baby.

anyone here had take Forexine 500mg? im 35th weeks preggy recommend kasi ni ob 2 times a day medyo hesitant ako itake .,..due to UTI kasi

^sis, trust your OB na Lang if she prescribed that to u. Actually, ako rin on antibiotics now due to UTi.  I was confined last Monday due to diarrhea/dehydration but also found UTI sa routine urinalysis. I was prescribed naman cefuroxime 500mg 2x a day din. Syempre hesistant din ako so I even googled and read naman it's category b- safe for pregnant women. I'm 26 weeks naman.

Better ma-treat ang infection.  Goodluck and hopefully this is the only time I will be diagnosed with UTI.

ako rin, I had UTI when I was pregnant, kahit takot ako uminom ng gamot, sinunod ko OB ko kasi hindi naman siguro niya ipeprescribe yun kung alam niyang harmful sa baby. good thing 7months na tummy ko nung nag-UTI ako, safer daw magtake non kc developed na yung baby.
kapag hindi natreat UTI during pregnancy alam ko nagkaka-sepsis ang baby paglabas.
