i'm a civil engineering graduate pero never ako nakawork in that field, hehe, i don't even tried applying for a job. ayoko na. sobrang disappointed ako na i wasn't able to finish that in five years but yun talaga ang gusto ko. now, i'm working as a caregiver, ok naman, happy but plan ko magpaevaluate dito if pede ko ipursue ang engineering course na natapos ko. balita ko kc big time ang salary dito.  ;)

RN, but working as a teacher --- which is totally a dream of mine... pero not quite, kasi ESL teacher ako... hindi classroom teacher na licensed.

Hello po! Buti nlang nakita ko thread na to. I've been back-reading the other posts, and it's comforting to know na parang hindi lang pala ako nakakafeel ng ganito.
Just like the other sisses here, BSN grad ako and an RN also. I graduated 4 years ago. First work ko was a volunteer nurse. Kaso 3 months lang. After nun, nabakante ako for 8months hanggang sa mkahanap ako ng work as an English teacher sa mga koreans. 1year and 3months din ako dun. Kaso masama ugali nung korean boss namin so nagresign kming tatlong teachers. Then nagwork ako ulit as english teacher sa mga foreign nationalities. Right now, 1 year nakong jobless. I tried applying sa isang government agency few months ago. Nakapagexam naman ako at nakapasa. Ang sabi by next year palang ako BAKA matawag.
Salamat.

Hi koshkathecat, I feel for you. Have you tried applying at a call center? Maganda ang pay dyan and as you have a background of teaching English, siguro ok naman ang English mo. Also, if that doesnt work out, you can teach Koreans ulit as a face to face tutor or an online tutor. All you need is to look for contacts. Ask some of your old colleagues kung may Korean student sila that is looking for a tutor. As long as you do a good job with one Korean student, he/she will advertise for you and youll get lots of students. Hawak mo pa ang oras mo and you're your own boss. I used to teach at Koreans at a school rin tapos I left the school and just taught on my own sched as my own boss. Try it, wala naman mawawalan sayo. Good luck. :)

We are not bound by our education anyways.

the career shift has long been overdue for me. i am a registered nutritionist dietitian and tried to stay in the healthcare industry but my career never progressed at all.  the big break came this year when i got into a multinational company so  from nutrition counseling, i now deal with a lot of marketing-related activities. though everything seems different, i feel blessed to be given this opportunity to learn something new and discover a field different from the one i've been trained.  blessings definitely comes in weird packages ^_^

hi! im a fine arts graduate. from marketing, HR, admin. ngayon, for almost 5 years sa company, im into finance and operations naman. manager ako dito, 29 years of age sa january next year. nakakalungkot lang na hanggang january 15 na lang kaming lahat (kahit mga kasamahan ko) dahil sa new management. pero looking forward ako na makahanap ng bagong work pagbalik sa Manila. dito kasi ako sa province nagwork.
ngayon di ko alam kung anong field ang papasukan ko since may background ako sa marketing, HR and sa latest work ko. gusto ko minsan magapply related sa marketing pero takot ako baka dun pa lang sa initial eh bagsak na dahil sa qualification. second, may online business kami. role ko is papaano magmarket ng products namin. kung magbibigay ako ng resume, can i include yung business din namin aside sa latest work ko? or dapat work lang talaga.
please help me :) thanks in advance!

I've worked in a lawyer's office for a couple of years and I've just recently shifted and now work for an e-commerce company. The business is really flourishing and I think I really have a future in this business! Everything marketing-related has gained a lot of importance throughout the last decades, let's hope it'll last!

Ako naman, I took BS Psych then shifted to PolSci then finally to Management but I never graduated from any haha. Pasaway. Well it's another story. First job was sa Jollibee as cashier for a few months lang kasi working student ako and that time I got prego. Second job ko is secretary sa notary public for a year. Then now, sa travel agency for 4 yrs na (3yrs sa old company then 1yr dito sa bago). But I must say, I got lucky sa mga naging trabaho ko lalo na dun sa travel agency which requires a 4yr course :)

hi mga sis.. was browsing random topics and I saw this one.. I'm also a BSN graduate and an RN, graduated last 2008. Ewan ko ba, my first course was actually BS Tourism in UP Diliman pero nahomesick ako at hindi ko kinaya nag pressure ng todo aral lalo na sa Math 11.. haha! So I shifted to Nursing dito sa province pero I know hindi rin yun ang gusto ko, sabi lang ng mom ko makakapag abroad daw ako yada yada.. After I graduated, hindi ako nagwork sa hospitals dahil puro volunteer at ikaw pa ang magbabayad sa hospital.  I worked as a HR Assistant/ Company Nurse for 2.5 years. Ngayon almost a month na ko jobless, tried applying online as an HR practitioner kaya lang parang may discrimination kase nga I'm a nurse... And never talaga ako magwowork sa hospital. Hay if only I could turn back time.. :(

I know madami makakarelate, I'm a registered nurse (2009 grad no local experience) turned call center agent. I can say na nakakasawa mag calls pero I can't say kung gusto ko pa ipursue yung natapos ko. Maganda yung compensation pero I'm in the stage na di ko na alam kung [textspeak!] talaga trip kong career. I plan to apply for another BPO-related position pero nakakahinayang, naghirap ka matapos yung 4 year course and yung board exam to be a professional pero "trash" yung feeling, "mediocre" daw yung work, parang walang self-actualization sa industry na pinasok mo different from your field. A friend of mine invites me to Riyadh to practice my profession pero illegal documents and when I hear "Middle East" scared talaga ako, it's same compensation plus away from your family pero plus to your career as you can use the experience for applying in other credible hospitals abroad.

Nakakadisappoint kasi habang nagrereview ako for the boards, we (as in we) began to realize na malaki ang possibility na hindi talaga kami makapagtrabaho as RNs. About 5 years ago, hindi naman ako sinabihan ng school ko during enrollment na wag na akong tumuloy dahil baka sa sobrang dami ng nurses, hindi ka na makapaghanap ng trabaho. Of course, they do not tell you that kind of reality. I'm not blaming the school, the PRC, my guardians, or myself because I'm not practicing my profession. What I'm trying to say is, working as a nurse really isn't what it appears to be. Parang sugar coating nalang yung naririnig ko dati.  :(

You know, false volunteerism at yung volunteer-for-a-fee. I want them to be comfortable in life, at sa edad ng lola ko ngayon, I have to hurry up para matamasa naman niya yung comforts na yun na siya ang nagprovide nung nag-aaral palang ako.

I still consider passing the board exam and seeing my name on the newspaper to be my greatest achievement in life. Being a nurse doesn't stop when you don't land a job at a hospital, clinic, nursing school, etc. Pwede ko parin naman magamit ang nursing and therapeutic communication skills ko to render care to my family and loved ones. :)

Thank you for allowing me to share my sentiments. Parang nobela na ata ito, but then again, we all have our own story to tell. :)

ako, grad ng BSPT. never took the boards (once in a while, meorn pa rin "what if?"). worked sa BPO for almost 2 years. tried putting up my own business which is stable naman but not really "kumikitang kabuhayan bongang-bongga version" type. now, Odesker. sometimes, pag nakikita ko sa FB yung mga friends ko na nagwowork pa din sa mga hospitals and rehab, napapaisip pa din ako pero wala (or super liit) ng chance na magpractice pa ako ng tinapos ko. sabihin na nating not really for me.

Hi mga sis, ako naman I am a licensed ECE, I used to work for Globe Telecom for  4 years and then more than 4 years naman sa Sun Cellular. Now, nag full time na me na mag work at home for 2 years na , and iba ibang clients din nakukuha ko but ang pinaka main na mga work na nakukuha ko is on internet marketing.

why not try to teach in a classroom setting, sis? you can actually get certificates or vocational courses in teaching diba? like in Tesda and etc. I'm sure pwede mong gawin yan.  :) isa yan sa mga regrets ko, i should've taken those short courses when i was in the PI. now i'm based overseas, i'm in the education (early childhood) setting. i have a corporate background but it was a blessing in disguise na nabigyan ako ng chance  :)

licensed ECE ako. my first work was *somewhat* related to the course, but then again not really since more on sales talaga. the next, i worked as an *engineer* but in no way related to my major since it was with a manufacturing company and i was in the production section. and now, apply ako as operations supervisor in a popular shopping chain and hopefully matanggap na in the next few days. ;)

Ako BSN, RN din, Batch 2007. I never used my profession, ever, kahit volunteer. Siguro di ko lang talaga calling magnurse. After I passed the Local Boards, nagreview ako for NCLEX, took it twice but to no avail. Come 2008, I decided to become a freelancer. I worked online, and established an online store as well. I was a freelancer for 2 years. Pay was good then not until 2010. I became tired of facing my laptop all daaaay and working my a** off my online shop. Super daming competition sa online store at the same time napapagod na ako sa online job ko so I decided to apply for a physical job. Gawd it was not a walk in the park! Grabe ang injustice sa mga nurses. 1 year din ako hanap ng hanap ng work and on the road to "finding myself". I tried all sorts of jobs from Call Center to Hotel frontliner to housekeeping staff to online english teacher. I even tried to get into the Fashion industry, tried all my luck in the world. Not until February last year when this company (agency) gave me a chance to be interviewed. I just submitted my CV out of desperation, I actually didn't applied for this position but they considered me parin. It was a far cry from what I expected for a job. It was for an Airline. I never expected to work for this industry as I have this notion that the Airline Industry is only for the pretty faces... After almost a year narealize ko I love to serve people, maybe not in the hospital but on other fields na. I am happy with my present career and I plan to stay on this industry for as long as I can :) I always thought na Nursing was a/the hindrance in finding a job then but later on I realized na it doesn't matter naman pala kasi the more you think na hindrance siya the more na magiging hadalang talaga siya. Kaya   explore other opportunities kahit alam mong suntok sa buwan yung gusto mong job, try and try and never give up :)
