both :D
atm - easy to withdraw. you can get your money anytime.
passbook - not easy to withdraw. helps you to minimize impulse buying

From my own experience, If you are saving, don't get an ATM, passbook nalang. But if you are somewhat financially secure already, an ATM would be good.

I had around 100k at the bank, thought I'm good at my business already so I got an ATM... That account is closed now, zero, wiped out. I opened a new account and just have a passbook. So far so good. =)

The atm makes it very easy for you to buy anything (specially food! - my number one money burner). What you think are mere "barya" withdrawals (p200 at a time, etc) adds up to thousands in a few short days. Sayang si savings.

^i agree. if you are really serious na magsave, mag-passbook ka. for me mas maganda pa nga kung sa malayong branch ka mag-open para hindi madaling withdrawhin. :)

i have both atm and passbook with BDO. ang nangyayari before was we deposit our savings then at the end of the month, pag nagkulang sa budget, we withdraw it through atm. so USELESS ang pag-sa-save. now what i did, i opened another account sa BPI naman, passbook lang siya and kailangan ko pang mag-effort just to go their branch to deposit, which is okay naman for me.

i still have my bdo account and deposit some money in there for emergency purpose lang then the savings i deposit it sa bpi.

if gusto mo talaga maka save, without temptation i'd say passbook. if atm kasi matetempt ka, madali lang mag withdraw kahit pa 500 lang. unlike pag passbook, mahihiya ka pabalik balik sa branch mo. but BDO kasi now offers both passbook with atm ;D

passbook ONLY for savings.

separate ATM for emergency funds.

May passbook ako sa BDO, eto strictly no WITHDRAWAL RULE for me. hehe.

^ that is a good idea.

anyway, from a banker's POV:

If you want to save, get a passbook.  If you need emergency/available cash, get an ATM.

Personally, I use my ATM as a wallet. So ngayon yung ATM and small bills lang dala ko (for fare, food).  When I need a big amount, tsaka lang ako withdraw from a safe atm location.  If ma-hold-up (wag naman sana) or mawala, I can report the loss of the card  at safe pa din pera ko.

depende din kasi ito sa purpose mo. I suggest having both but separate account. Let' say [textspeak!] sa passbook, sa bank na ang purpose is for "strictly savings". Tapos [textspeak!] isa naman para sa budget, daily expenses mo and [textspeak!] talagang for purchases (atm).

kami ni hubby ganito:
BDO- we both have payroll accounts. Pagdating ng sweldo automatic naglilipat kami sa BDO joint account namin ng money na budget namin for the month. Living allowance ba. kasi d mo nakikita usually [textspeak!] pera mo and before you know it nauubos na pala kakawithdraw mo. Di mo pansin [textspeak!] 100 na withdrawal e nag aadd up na pala

Chinabank- savings for the future. Medyo malayo talaga sa tukso kasi passbook lang at the same time medyo malayo sa mall. we see the money lang sa passbook. nakakainspire

eto rin talaga ang kinakatakot ko eh. so i carry no more than 1k pagwala namang inaanticipate na out of the ordinary expenses. iwas pa sa impulsive purchases, at sa mga uutang na kaopisina. hehe

i have 2 separate accounts. I have 1 for passbook only, and 1 for atm. My passbook account is fo r my savings. Hindi ginagalaw unless for investment lang. My atm is for bills. Emergency money din.

I agree with our sisses here. Mas inconvenient kasi na galawin ang passbook savings kaya nakakatamad galawin yung pera therefore more savings. :D

tama!
