atm, passbook or both?

sis,pls help me  mag decide..I want to open ng savings account sa bdo but hindi ako makapagdecide kung atm only,passbook only or both..

What are the advantages/disadvantages pag isa lang or pareho?Help me po...

ATM card - maximum withdrawal per day is 50k. Beyond that, withdrawal transactions will be done over the counter which can be a bit of a hassle. Branch confirmation takes anytime from as little as 2 hours to more than 6 hours.

Passbook - over the counter withdrawal without branch confirmation is 500k but you have to pay 200 for the service.

Both - convenience of both ATM and passbook. ATM card, if withdrawing only 50k or less, to avoid bank fees. Passbook for large amount to avoid the hassle of the long wait.

Depende sa reasons mo for opening a savings account.  Kung gusto mo na mas mahirap mag-withdraw para di mo magalaw ang money agad, then passbook is better.  This way makakaipon ka...

^I agree! ATM kasi will make it so convenient to withdraw money... whereas with passbook, you need to go to your bank pa and pila pila so parang wag na lang, hindi na ako magwiwithdraw hinders you diba? So you end up saving!

Go for both but be sure you have the discipline not to withdraw everything in your bank account, or else, you will defeat your purpose of saving.

Ako sis pinili ko both. I opened an account with BDO. Ginawa ko nasa bahay lang yun atm tapos nilagay ko pa sa pinakailalim ng mga damit ko, para mas lalo akong hindi matempt magwithdraw kasi magugulo yun mga damit ko sa cabinet.

go for both sis para mas convenient. i'll be opening a passbook/atm account din kaya lang im deciding between bdo and eastwest. sa eastwest kasi 5k lang minimum and you can have as much as 4 extension atm cards.. so convenient for me esp now that im supporting my bro. im just wondering if maganda ang ol account service ng eastwest. yung sa bpi kasi very convenient ng ol account service. and the good thing about eastwest, i guess, is di ganun kadami ang branches. tatamarin kang magwithdraw lolz

For me it depends, you can set aside specific percentage of of your income in a passbook account that will be used strictly for emergencies.

Then you may open an atm account naman na halos sakto lang for your monthly budget so there'll be a clear line between the money you should be spending and saving.

There are banks naman that needs as low as 2k for maintaining balance for ATM and 5k for a passbook account or less pa.

I have both ATM & Passbook account I also use the same account to track payments for my online store mas maganda rin kasi may passbook to see the payments/savings/withdrawals coming in/out the account. ATM I only use for emergency purposes otherwise i left it sa house.

If your intention for opening an account is to save then go for PASSBOOK only.
Falling in line just to withdraw money is time consuming which can really help you save. You also get to track everything if you have a passbook.

If your intention is just to put petty cash in a bank then go for the ATM. para wala ka ding cash sa wallet.

Pero ako, I have both pero iniiwan ko sa bahay pareho, pati atm, para less temptation tapos pag na-update ko na yung passbook ko natutuwa ako pag nakikita kong nakakapagsave ako kahit konti.

ako sis both... initially i opened a BDO account na passbook lang para tamarin akong magwithdraw kasi hassle pumunta lagi ng bank at pumila but then nung nagkasakit si baby at kinailangan talagang galawin yung savings namin, narealize ko ok din pala na may atm ka kasi anytime pwede kang magwithdraw.

i think disiplina lang talaga ang kailangan, kung gusto mo talagang makaipon hindi mo talaga gagalawin yung nasa bangko na. pero kung talagang temptation ang pagkakaroon ng atm, ibigay mo na lang kay hubby or anyone na reliable at trusthworthy ang atm mo at ipachange mo yung pin sa kanila. that way, kahit nasa iyo na yung atm mo, hindi mo pa rin mawiwithdraw kasi hindi mo alam yung hehe

i have a passbook only account with bpi and a passbook with atm account with bdo. yung sa bpi ko, purpose talaga is para hindi agad nagagalaw galaw. and na serve namn niya purpose niya. hehe.

i agree...for savings, passbook siguro...pero for emergency funds, atm...para if ever need mo talaga magwithdraw, may atm ka..

for a savings account, a passbook is better. it's easier to keep track of your money's movement, plus mas mahirap to withdraw because of the limited banking hours. at the same time, if you want to apply for a visa, you can show the passbook as proof of your financial capabilities, that you have x amount of money in the bank saved up.

atm cards are also a major target for thieves. so security-wise, a passbook is more advantageous.

for me both, but make sure na yung atm is not w/ u.. to avoid temptations sa pag wiwidthraw.. yung sa akin kasi, nasa akin yung passbook for deposits.. then yung atm binigay ko sa mama ko... sya lang ang nakakaalam ng pin at ako.. para if incase of emergency & we need the money or something happens to me ( wag naman sana ) they can still widthraw the money.. nasa mama ko yung atm ko kasi my baby is w/ her.. shes taking care of my baby... ayaw ko naman i give kay hubby, baka di ko alam maubos na lang yun ng parang bula.. hehe

I agree with most of your responses and reasons but I guess I would say both. I used to have the same dilemma. ATM para easy access diba? And even when the banks are closed like on weekends and holidays, makakapagwithdraw ka especially kung emergency at kailangan na kailangan mo yung money. However, dahil super easy access, madali ring mawala ang pera especially pag may mga hold-up hold-up at kung may sale at natetempt ka. hehe.  So para saft, get both. At least pag kailangan mo magwithdraw ng large amount, pwede kang mag over-the-counter diba? Tapos kung emergencies or fast cash lang, may atm ka 

Hey, what do you ladies think of long-term savings? I have an atm and passbook din pero I don't think save enough. Syempre I wanna save din for the future and my rate, parang di mangyayari yun. I mean, I know how to save naman. Meron naman ako kahit papaano, pero syempre gusto ko sanang magsave for the future. My other friends suggested time deposit pero I'm still open to other suggestions. I have both that's why it's best to have passbook only. Easy access kasi yung atm unlike passbook na you'll be able to think twice or many times pa if the money you want to withdraw is para lang talaga sa mga necessities mo.

All our accounts are with BDO as well. My personal savings account walang passbook, ATM lang. Yung 2 joint accounts namin may passbook and ATM parehas.

The good thing about having a passbook is you can see your savings anytime you want, sort of motivation na din for you.

meron akong dalawang accounts sa BPI. nagopen kasi ako ng atm dun nung dalaga pa ako. and nung married nako at nakaisip na mag save, i opened a passbook account naman. magkaibang account sila. yung passbook, pang save lang talaga. yung atm lang ginagalaw ko pag kailangan.
