ENDOMETRIAL POLYP REMOVAL THROUGH BLIND

Has anyone of you experienced growth in your uterine lining or endometrium in the form of a polyp?  My sister has endometrial polyp and she was advised by her ob to choose between blind d&
C and hysteroscopy.  The latter is more expensive

My sis kasi experiences bleeding in between her menstrual period.  Usually on the 15th day of her cycle until the 22nd day nag reregla pa siya.  She also has very heavy menstrual flow.  She had transvaginal ultrasound and it was found out that there is a polyp in her uterus.  the ideal treatment recommended by the ob is really hysteroscopy but this is expensive.  Less the philhealth, a patient will still incur 70 thousand pesos.  This amount will now be shouldered by the patient.  However, her ob also suggest that she can also choose blind dilation and curettage since this is cheaper around 20 thousand pesos lamang ang magagastos but it is not 100 percent sure that the polyp can be removed.  Confused nga talaga ang sis ko.  She does not know what to choose.  Choosing hysteroscopy is really a drain in her finances.

i also have endo polyp and left ovarian cyst. two years ago, i undergo D&C to remove my polyp. through transv lang nakita. 2 yung nakuha sakin dati, and fortunately, benign naman result ng biopsy.

pero may tumubo ulit ngayon.  and i'm advised na magpa D&C ulit.

ang weird lang sakin is i have regular mens eversince. 26 to 28 days cycle ko, di nagbabago. i'm not a heavy bleeder din. 4 days yung flow, on the 5th day, patak patak na lang. 8-10 lang din nagagamit ko. never pa akong nagka-spotting or anything. yun nga lang, may dysmenorrhea ako. sabi ni OB, mukhang sensitive daw uterus ko sa mga hormonal changes kasi ang bilis bumalik ng polyp.

di naman masakit ang D&C. partial anesthesia nga lang ako. pero parang nagdadalawang isip na akong magpa- D&C ulit. pano kung bumalik na naman?

yung sa cyst ko naman, it was untreated kasi physiologic cyst naman daw at follicular, tubig lang laman. lumiliit pag walang period at lumalaki pag meron, pero it's there, di nawawala.

sabi ni OB, after ng D&C, i'll undergo hormone therapy to control yung recurrence ng polyp pati na din yung growth nung cyst.

pero i'm still confused, parang di ako satisfied sa OB ko. wala lang kasi akong makitang OB na malapit samin na highly recommended. my OB is OB pa ng nanay ko before. medyo matanda na siya, pero madami pa din siyang pasyente at mabait naman. tiwala naman ako sa kanya pero parang i have so many questions pa din talaga.

Shinta, I think the reason bakit ka nagkapolyp again, it could be during your d&C which is a blind procedure baka di talaga nakuha completely ang mga polyps baka may naiwan pa.  That is really the risk attached to  a blind d&C.  Some polyps can really be missed.  Did you have repeat transvaginal ultrasound after your d&c?  Mas maganda kasi talaga na i-repeat para talaga you can be sure that all polyps were scraped out.

My sister's ob I think is also as old as your ob.  She only performs blind d & C.  But in fairness to her she made my sister choose between blind d&c (which is what she only performs) or hysteroscopy which can be performed by another ob.  With hysteroscopy definitive talaga ang removal ng polyp because the doctor can really see polyp inside the uterus di kagaya ng blind d&c na hit or miss ang nangyayari.  Sa hysteroscopy mahal talaga. 

My sister has chosen hysteroscopy na lang kahit expensive siya.  At least she can have peace of mind that all the polyps can really be removed.  May peace of mind siya unlike with the blind d & c na mura pero di ka naman sure na matatangal talaga ang mga polyp.  If you have the money go for hysteroscopy.  My sister is only 34 years old at may polyp na nahanap sa kanya.

yes sis, i have transv after the d&c (but not right after, a week after siguro) and it was clear na. actually, i had 2 or 3 pa ata of trans-v kasi she was monitoring my left ovarian cyst naman. then nung medyo ok, wala na syang makitang polyp tapos physiologic naman yung cyst, i stopped seeing her na.

pero last aug, super sakit ng dysmenorrhea ko. unbearable na talaga kaya nagpa-checkup ulit ako. ayun sa trans-v, kitang-kita may mass na naman ulit.

i was 28 only nung first nakita yung polyp at wala pang baby hanggang ngayon.

di ko ata kakayanin ang hysteroscopy. i work at home at wala akong HMO.

@ shinta- di kaya mapolyps ka po talaga? nabanggit kase ng OB ko na me mga taong mapolyps daw kahit natanngal na yung polyps dati. yung pabalik balik daw.

@ cashew- so happy naman nakasurvive na sister mo.
 kaso ang hirap talaga pag gipit. huhu di ko na sure kung covered na yung medical expenses ko ngayon ng HMO namen, nagpalit na kame ng HMO Fortune care na, kaso dame ko naririnig na feedback.

start na ng mens ko ngayong MOnday, so count ko pang 5th ko ng friday tpoz 9th ng tues, Nov. 2... present kaya OB ko ng Nov. 2, sana...

ganun nga din sabi ni OB. may sinabi pa syang term pero nakalimutan ko. i may be sensitive to estrogen nga daw kaya ang bilis bumalik ng polyp. my mother had a polyp, too and she was the same OB who removed it. pero sa nanay ko, di na bumalik.

di pa din ako ulit nagpapa-sched ng d&c. i'm only turning 31 at kung sakali, 2nd d&c ko na ito. di kaya masama yun?

I undergone saline infusion. to check if I really have polyps, kase nakita yun sa TVU ko.  ayun, from 4 sa TVU down to 3 polyps, sure na to. nagpalit ng healthcard yung company na pinapasukan ko. so nag iba ako ng OB. will observe daw yung mens ko this November daw. (baka mga third orlast week pa dumating yung mens ko). ayun according to her, raraspahin daw talaga ko. yun lang way para matanggal. di ko pa alamkung d & c or hysteroscopy.

naiyak ako. kase bakit kelangang magkaganto ako.
Im only 21 single to experience this thing. Nagwowori ako sa future ko.
natatakot ako. di ko matanggap siguro yung ganto.
feeling ko abnormal ako.

a few days rest is enough na sis. di naman masakit yung d&c. overnight lang ako sa ospital. then nag-mall pa nga ako paglabas ko ng ospital. hehe.

don't worry too much about it. polyp, by itself is not naman a serious problem. basta negative lang yung lumabas sa biopsy. nabasa ko naman dati na very rare na nagiging malignant ang polyp. ang pinaka complication lang niya is mahihirapan kang magbuntis. pero syempre, you need to have it removed.

ako nga di pa ako nagpapacheckup ulit sa OB. sabi ni OB di naman kasi urgent. iniisip ko kc baka naman may masamang effect if madalas magpa- d&c. may sinasabi kasi silang numinipis yung matris pag laging nagpaparaspa. pero i have yet to ask that to my OB.

i'm actually more worried sa ovarian cyst ko kasi nararamdaman ko talaga siya. may dull pain na parang kumikirot and when i bend my left knee, parang may naiipit sa loob. it can destroy my ovary pag pinabayaan kong lumaki.

usually daw yung polyp sa mga late 30's to 40's na, at dun sa mga nanganak na. pero di naman rare cases yung less than 30 years old at di pa nanganganak. sabi nga ng OB mo (at ng OB ko din), may mga tao talagang ma-polyp.

don't worry sis. it'll pass din. basta after mong ipatanggal, whether by blind d&c or hysteroscopy, regular check up ang kaylangan to make sure na wala kang ibang prob sa reproductive health or if nag-recur yung polyp.

alam mo ba shinta, naiisip ko tuloy magpabuntis na kaya ako sa bf ko hehe. baka sakaling mabuntis ako tapos after nun ako magparaspa para wala na ko sa worries (takot kase akong di mabuntis sooner) kaso lagot ako sa parents ko, isa pa man din akong panalong tinapay.. ay naku.

i understand bat parang napapraning ka sa kakaisip. siguro if i were your age tapos nagkaganyan din ako, i'd probably feel the same.

di pa din ako nagbubuntis nung niraspa ako. niloloko nga ako ni OB, sabi magbuntis na daw ako pero di pa kasi ako kasal nun. now that i'm married, syempre gusto ko ding magkababy. kaya i will definitely undergo d&c ulit. tinatamad pa lang akong magpa-schedule. hehe.

hysteroscopy is the better option talaga, pero di ko kaya kasi wala akong HMO. if your company has naman kaya baka pwede.ask mo muna yung HMO sa office nyo if covered nila yung ganun procedure.

on the brighter side, at least maagang nadetect na meron ka palang polyp. don't stress too much kasi nakakacontribute din yang stress na yan sa mga sakit na nararamdaman natin.

yes, hysteroscopy talaga is the better option compared to a blind d&c. Ang tendency pa if one undergoes d&c especially if more than once is magagasgas talaga ang matris.  They call it nga the asherman's syndrome.  nasusugatan na ang matris.  Unlike with hysteroscopy parang may telescopyo na pinapasok sa loob ng matris at doon kita na agad ang location ng polyp at tinitira na agad ang polyp ng ob.  Sa blind d&c kasi ang buong matris ang ini-scrape ng ob so talagang may tendency na magasgas ito.

Zhajhei - do not worry too much about the possibility of not getting pregnant.  Once the polyp is removed then you are in good reproductive health again.  Magpahysteroscopy ka na lang para di ma unnecessarily scraped ang uterus mo.  Kung covered din lang health care provider mo then go for it.  My sister plans to have her hysteroscopy first week of November probably on the 6th to 8th day of her menstrual cycle.  She will just use her personal money na lang to cover the expenses for the hysteroscopy kasi di sya covered ng healthcard niya.  She is just afraid of the spinal anesthesia kasi nagpapanic siya pag di na niya magalaw ang kanyang mga legs. 

Allow me to digress a little, i have a friend who works as a nurse in Singapore.  She said na in Singapore the doctors there do not perform a blind d&c anymore.  Antiquated na talaga daw ang procedure na yan.  Hysteroscopy is the state-of-the-art procedure.  Kaso, third world country tayo so our doctors still perform a blind d&c kasi nga not everybody can afford a hysteroscopy.  Sister ko nga reklamo sa mahal pero no choice pikitan na lang ang gastos.

yung din nga iniisip ko, bec it's only two years ago pa lang since my last d&c (december 2008). baka naman magasgas ng sobra yung uterus ko. kaya parang ayoko muna magpa-d&c

pero no choice kasi di ko talaga kaya hysteroscopy    sana kumita akong bongga-bongga in the next few months para hysteroscopy na lang din ako.

ok lang naman yung spinal anesthesia. habang niraraspa nga ako, pinapanood ko yung ginagawa ni OB kasi nagrereflect sa salamin niya. medyo gross nga lang. hehe.

tapos yung assistant doctor niya is super gwapo pa. kaya lang nakakahiya kasi nga i'm fully exposed. lol!

sobrang nangalay lang likod ko nung nasa recovery room na. di ko kasi maigalaw yung lower body ko. tapos di naman ako makatulog kasi nga nangangalay likod ko. kaya hirap na hirap ako.

kaluka kase nagpalit ng health card yung company namen nito lang.
medicard yung una, nung naginquire ako sa hotline nila covered yung hysteroscopy ewan ko lang sa bago which is fortunecare na ngayon.

ZHAJHEI - My sister just had her hysteroscopy and so far di talaga siya nagsisi to have chosen hysteroscopy over blind d& c.  We even saw the video of her hysteroscopy at clear talaga na makikita mo what is inside the uterus.  Sa kanyang TVU only one polyp was found but with her hysteroscopy 2 polyps were found.  This is really the advantage of using a hysteroscope talagang super clear makikita ng ob what is inside the uterus.

Regarding your question kung saang hospital kami, dito lang kasi kami sa davao.  Total hospital bill was only 45 thou less philhealth so mga 32 thou lang na shoulder ng sis ko.  Overnight lang sa hospital then the next day ok ka na.  A hysteroscopy is only a minor procedure.
