I got a review here from PEX
CENTER FOR AESTHIC STUDIES (CAS of Franck Provost): DO NOT ENROLL HERE

To Those Who Love Makeup:

I know how it feels – staring at your makeup for long periods of time, daydreaming about them, succumbing to lemmings, writing reviews dutifully – and finally deciding to enroll in a makeup school like I did.

Let me share a most unfortunate experience of wasting time and resources studying in a so-called “top tier” local makeup school: THE CENTER FOR AESTHETIC STUDES (CAS OF FRANCK PROVOST).

I enrolled in a certificate-based BASIC Makeup Course, confident and excited because of its “reputation.” I thought I wouldn’t go wrong with Franck Provost. I was in for a lot of surprises.

The first day I noticed the class was too big: 18 students all in all. But I let it be, thinking as experts, they should know best. After a few weeks, everything was clear. We weren’t being given the amount of attention we paid for.

Day in and day out, it was apparent the instructor, MARI J. WILD, did not possess proper teaching skills. She would come into class happy and energetic, angry and wild (literally), and sometimes subdued again in a span of 4 hours. When we ask her questions, e.g., to show us how to do a smoky eye again, she would start screaming and asking why we have to ask that question, why we didn’t practice at home, why we didn’t pay attention – all the whys that were not helpful to us students at all. In short, she expected us to learn a technique the first time around! All of us had the same question: What was the point of enrolling if we knew makeup that well? As students, we absorbed her wrath every session. We couldn’t open our mouths when we have something to ask, complain about, request for. The basic workings of a normal class did not fit in with her.

When we were doing makeup in class, she, together with her assistant, would criticize us – not in a constructive way (believe me, it was obvious), but in an insulting manner. From the tone, to the body language, to how their eyes talked, they were being total *****es taking pleasure demeaning students and showing off their skills. Like me, I think you can tell from careful observation whether a person has good intentions or not. I tell you, in the CENTER FOR AESTHETIC STUDIES, from the directress to the instructor, artifice and oppression are what bind them.

The two months of the course was hell. I would think that the motivation to do better, learn, and finish the course was because of the instructor and the course content. But I found myself plowing on mainly because the money I paid couldn’t be refunded. I was hoodwinked this far; I wouldn’t allow them to take advantage of my money without me availing of the services I paid for.

At the end of the term, we weren’t allowed to see our grades yet. We were only told that “we didn’t make the cut” so we had to do another 20 faces (meaning 20 makeup looks on 20 different models) with printed photos. As if the money and time spent for the course weren’t enough, we were being asked to look for photographers and models just to prove that we deserve a BASIC makeup certificate.

I went to the directress to appeal. In the first place, everyone enrolled thinking they would receive a certificate when they finish the course, since it is ONLY a CERTIFICATE course. Although she heard me out, it was apparent in her porcine features that she was unhappy to hear my comments about her school and the faculty she hires. Before I even aired my concerns about the instructor, she interrupted me and made it clear that whatever I say, she would have to defend the instructor no matter what.

Now she must be either very stupid or a shameless extortionist. If a directress were really concerned about the quality of her school, she would welcome all comments openly and constructively. By telling me that she would set up defense, she was clearly saying that whatever feedback I have to give won’t matter – it won’t change the way she thinks of her school; it won’t even be put into consideration!

The school has been around for four years. This instructor has been around for the same time. I realized, if THE CENTER FOR AESTHETIC STUDIES were a reputable school with a genuine concern for its students, this instructor would not be around any more. The directress herself told me I wasn’t the first to complain. So why is she still there? Go figure.

But then again, no wonder. NO WONDER the instructor is still around. NO WONDER the directress allows her to stay—they are of the same ilk—unprofessional, narrow-minded, spiteful creatures of hell. I pity the owners who fool themselves that they are “committed to giving individuals… proper values in the field of cosmetology at standards that are internationally-recognized” when they themselves don’t live it.

Because of this school, I am so disappointed, utterly disillusioned about the makeup industry. I’m sure it is not this bad, but CAS makes it look unworthy. After all, don’t you learn the first things in school? In this case, CAS ruined everything.

So, please, if you respect yourself, cross this school out from your options. Believe me, CENTER FOR AESTHETIC STUDIES is not worth the passion for makeup. It’s not as if there are no other makeup schools in the country. They may be swaggering now, but let’s wait and see—a school with a substandard caliber and such vulgar attitude will not last long.

Shameless. That is all I can say.

I've just graduated from CAS Center  for Aesthetic Studies and I am under miss Jill Tumbaga. I had the opposite experience from the one who posted blog from PEX. We're 16 in one class. At the first 1-2 session more on lectures but on the following days more on hands on as in every meeting different looks.

My instructor is so cool and nice, she answers every question we had in mind. She will ask us any concern or what? She makes reviews on make up productts available in the market that would suit the Pinay skin. The hazards of different branded make ups and all. She makes her homework of studying every looks and lessons ahead of time. I can noticed that in her hand outs there was post it in each page maybe for reminders.

CAS provides handouts every meeting, then discussed by our instructor afterwards questions are welcome to be raised. There's no problem at all! She will answers back naman without criticizing you or whatsoever, then it's time for our turn to do the make up looks assigned in a day. During my application if I'm in doubt of doing something I asked her if this is right then she will politely answers backs. And while on the process of us making our models look stunning she roams around the room to check each of our works then again politely suggestv like "you can put a lil bit of this, and dont over do the countouring on this side anymore, blend it more here". And sometimes she will do the techniques for you, you watch then you learn.

She's not the type who criticizes what make up product were you using. She even told us wag isnabin si fanny serrano and ever bilena.

She even brings ipod for us to listen while we're working. Joined us in our lunch. In regards to grades, she even told us you can text me for your grades. For absences, no problem at all just tell her ahead of time. and if your tagilid or she notices that your being late all the time she reprimands you in a nice way. She's cool.

The staff "ate len" is the nicest! I even borrowed the school books 1 week overnight just to finished Kevin Aucoin Making faces book. Kuya Maxx the over all guard and admin looks masungit lagi nakataas kilay pero when you approached him naman his nice din naman.

Lagi lang may topak un coffee vendo machine hindi nag susukli kadalasan. at walang tissue sa toilet. Pero sa instructor walang problem. Nung graduation namin may dinner pa together and major pictures. We even have a group on facebook. :D

Siguro depende sa instructor sakin learning experience ang CAS pero i'm not closing my doors on different make up school for advance make up artistry. Pero infairness mura basic hair upstyle ng cas yun mga updo na pang wedding and all. hehe

be positive :D

Hi!
Would like to share my experience with Maquillage Professionel of Make Up Forever.  I took the first module because of the time and location.  Its a make up course for you to learn to use make-up forever products.  Sometimes kulang pa the products to use, you have to share or wait your turn for an item: example: 1 black eyeliner for a class of 8- you spend your time going from one area to the next looking who has it.

Not all teachers are trained equal- there are some good ones!  They base your work subjectively, on what you can do.  It is an art after all.  They work on your skill and share their knowledge.  On the other hand ,another trainer had always  something to comment a negative comment, to the point I answered that's why I am here, to learn.  I also did not appreciate when the staff would place make-up on themselves while in class, this is counting the trainer too.  Come to work ready is my thought.

I actually learned a lot from my classmates.  They shared their experiences and what websites to check out.  I was hoping to learn what are the skin types and tones? how to know what colors you use for the eyes, lips and cheeks?  When you see a color of eyeshadow, how do you know it would look good on your client.  No explanation on warm and cool tones, reddish or blue under tones on make-ups etc...

Others may have had a good experience with MUFE but as for me, it was just a fair experience.

As for CAS we did study most of the basic warm cool tones skin pigmentation and all that. We even had our midterms and finals with identifications enumerations and essays. We memorized the color wheel, bone structures, classic icons like clara bow and the monochromatic etc. terms, at first I taught it's not that important as blending the colors well onto the client's face but I realized you enrolled in a school for you to learn from basic-advance, right? So you got to learn them. I am thankful to CAS and to my instructor as well.

^2k worth NYX products? Super like!!
I got an email from them. Nag-inquire kasi ako. May basic hairstyling na palang kasama, nabasa ko sa course outline na binigay nila. They don't provide models pero their staff can assist you in securing models for a minimal fee of course. The brush set is included when you pay in cash on or before the first day of class. You have to bring your own hair and make-up products and tools. However, they provide eye shadows, blushers and lipstick palettes for student's use during class sessions. 7 hours a day and 11 days.

Pero they won't force you to buy their products, sabi ko kase my friend bought me makeup, OK naman daw.

Yung brush set ba dapat cash payment? I was planning to use cc pa naman, ilang points din ang 25k ha.

Anyway, punta ako dun bukas to see the facilities. OK din sakin kase malapit lang sakin eh.

I wasn't able to take pictures, kinda awkward kase there was a class when I went there.

I saw this multiply site sa wedding MUA thread here in GT, they were talking about this makeup artist from makeup design academy - http://khite22bautista.multiply.com/photos/album/576/Day_2_Make_Up_Design_Academy_NO_MAKE_UP_LOOK. If you browse through her albums, meron before and after looks ng models nya.

By the way, iba yung nakausap ko last Saturday, she said that the GC promo was for the previous batch. Ang promo for next batch, 15-piece makeup brushes. May uniform, the black shirt (you'll see that in the album), 250 for that.

It's located in the midtown wing (yung side na may Starbucks, Flapjacks, CBTL, etc.), sa 4th floor, near the Midtown wing cinemas & salons. At dahil nasa loob sha ng mall, madali lang parking, 40 pesos flat rate. Kung medyo tinatamad ka mag park, may valet parking din, 100 pesos naman (ang mahal!). ;D

^Max of 7 per class, although last Saturday (Ermita branch ha), dalawa lang sila, may dalawa yata absent if I got it correctly. Hindi pa nga ako nagpa-reserve eh, feeling ko di sila umaabot ng 7 talaga.

Hi! Pasali po... I am also planning to study Makeup Artistry, inquired at MDA at Rob Place din.  Their next Module 1 class will start on 11June ata for saturday classes.   Pero I will be taking their 3-hour Personal Makeup Class on 21May muna to see if okay ba yung turo nila.   Sana maganda.  Okay kasi para sa akin yung location nila and yung included naman sa module nila is okay din naman... Sana lang talaga okay yung turo.
