DENGUE: Road to Recovery
« on: October 05, 2010, 05:02:15 pm »
Please share your success stories with recovering from Dengue. This disease was very frustrating and though, studies have already been noted that Probiotics can help hasten to recovery, our doctor still DID NOT inform us about it.  Lesson learned was to always stay informed.

I am aware that some hospitals do not allow herbal medications, as well.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Its so frustrating when doctors can only advise to wait until platelets reached 100 until they can confirm its Dengue.  They say that there is no cure for the Dengue Virus.

My bf reach his lowest at 41 (at DAY 4).

Since Day 1 doctors were discussing and insisting on blood transfusion (when one resident doctor informed us that its not a guarantee).

Am noting the factors that we did to arrive at this productive stage:

Liquids he took were,
1.5L freshly boiled Tawa tawa tea with flower buds (recommended herbal for platelet increase);
1.5L of Pocari Sweat (immediate hydration)
and 4-5 bottles of Yakult (for his immune system; OMX Capgel was recommended but out of stock).

Diet included,
Pig's tail soup (cooked 1 hour with ginger)
Bone Marrow soup
Quail Eggs
Egg Tart
Leche Flan

Supplements added,
Vitamin C with Rose hip (1000mg every 2 hours)
NAC (every 3 hours)
B12 (1000mg ever 6 hours)

Yunnan Baiyao /Yunnan Paiyao (at his DAY 5, 2 caps, every 6 hours with safety pill at first take)

I heard many feedback about Papaya milky sap juices, as well.

*note that I am not a Physician and the above recommendations are inconclusive; however, I am an Organic user and Pro-Alternative Medicines.

Hi sis! There is indeed NO cure for Dengue at this time.  There is only supportive treatment.

I understand your frustration because my bf had dengue last year.  He was confined for a week.  Kept on IV fluids for hydration (which is the most important thing in the supportive treatment of dengue).

Doctors cannot just give herbal medications because there are no sufficient clinical trials for such - anything that happens to the patient is the doctor's responsibility.  He will not allow his patient to be the subject of anything not proven by valid clinical trials.

The probiotics is still something that is quite new for the disease, hence there are only quite a few number of studies out there in this regard.

All that you have mentioned are ways to keep the body able to fight the virus.

As of today, Dengue NS1 Antigen can confirm presence of dengue, without having to wait for thrombocytopenia (low platelet count).

Dengue fever is a viral illness and it has  no cure as of this time like what the previous poster had mentioned.  Its just fluid ( plain IV fluids or collloid if needed) to maintain the hydration status of the patient, and fluid RESUSCITATION if the patient would go into shock.  Transfusion is not needed unless the patient will have bleeding.

Anak ko na Dengue din. Type 1 lang.
IV Fluid lang, lots of water at masustansyang pagkain. Pero 5 days din kami sa hospital, di ako pumayag na umuwi anak ko na di normal ang platelet.
Actually platelet nya is above 200 pa nung na-admit sya. 2nd day -naging 180, 3rd day- tumaas na uli. Pero positive sya sa NH1.

ako nadengue...5days ako sa FEU hospital...before that 3 days ako sa haws nilalagnat.
IV(dextrose) to make me hydrated tapos pinainom ako ng 2 tabs per meal ng potassium then multivitamins tapos para hwag ako internal bleed(intestine) eh binigyan ako ng doctor ulcifam (for ulcer treatment).
tapos fruits and lots of water(feeling ko kasi lagi ako uhaw nun) tapos talbos ng kamote (specially the sabaw) and grapes talaga pinurga ako kasi it helps daw para tumaas ang platelets and it works naman. No dark food din kasi to know if me internal bleeding ka.
nun iniadmit ako 124 na lang platelet kotapos sa third day nag 65 na lang ako..after that nagstart na tumaas platelet ko. grabe every six hours kinukuhanan ako ng blood.
luckily for me ndi na nid ng blood transfusion since ndi ako ng bleeding at all...hilo lang ako and nanghina ng husto.
nun lumabas ako..multivitamins lang ibinigay sakin ng doctor to drink twice a day for 7days.

sis maganda din yung bug spray ng human heart nature instead of off lotion kasi may harmful chemicals yun. citronella main ingredient nung bug spray.

i had mild dengue last week. hay hirap magkasakit... lowest count ko 84.   1st four days lang ata ako may lagnat. pero super sakit ulo at chills nung first 2 days. nagtataka nga ako bakit di ako gumagaling e i take bioflu naman and biogesic.  buti nalang medtech tita ko kaya nakamenos sa mga cbc.. nung fifth day ko wala ng lagnat pero lumabas yung rashes as in parang tigdas!  hirap kasi kahit parang magaling na feeling mababa pa rin pala platelet. nung bumaba uli ng 108 nagpadextrose nako.feeling ko kasi pag oral hydration di ko mashado nagagawang uminom ng madami. i also took fern c to boost my immune system. as in 5 caps 3x a day ginawa ko. tapos maraming pocari sweat. ayun ok na naman ako ngayon.. hay! hirap magkasakit. ingat sa lamok talaga!

if platelets get too low, it would be very dangerous, and the only intervention that can be done is blood transfusion. it's the platelet that's being destroyed by the virus, so continuous destruction simultaneous with bleeding, very bad. consider blood transfusion, i think it's the best option

ranitidine and cefuroxime (IV)
fern-c
vitaplus
other fluids

I had dengue last month.. ayun I got hospitalized for 3 days, hindi naman malala yung akin so no need to have blood transfusion pero sobrang wala akong gana kumain that time pero marami yung intake ko ng water.. siguro yung acid reflux ko nagpasama din sakin kaya wala akong ganang kumain plus everytime kumain ako nagpupuke ako so ayun sobrang hirap...

had dengue last month (got it from my mom nung nagka dengue siya at ako ng bantay sa CGH)!!!  it was really scary!  nagka high fever ako, max at 38.8 and lasted for 1.5 days (pinawis ko talaga siya) ..and i immediately took 4-5 yakults per day and at least 3l of pocari sweat, probiotic caps, vitamin c.

wala ring gana kumain.  my lola advised me to take talbos ng kamote nung bumaba na platelet ko. naging pink ako agad sa talbos ng kamote and -10-15 lang ang pagbaba ng platelet ko.  at day 4, naging 103 na and my dad was ready to take me to the hospital.

ayoko talaga magpa admit so, i took 2-3 tbsp of fresh papaya leaves (galing sa neighbor)! thank God, naging 106 the same day.  and next day, naging 160+ na.

mas nahihirapan ako sa recovery though. :(  my digestion is not the same anymore and its really hard to gain all the weight i've lost.  sobrang low energy din ako and madaling mapagod, at patay gutom pero hindi naman kayang ubusan yung food.

its been 2.5 weeks. :(  taking wakamoto, and so far, i don't get acidic anymore at night (i am forcing myself to eat a lot kasi, ang payat ko na sobra) :(
