Very inspiring naman ang thread na to.

looking back 2012, I have no assets, insurance, personal things, jewelries, no savings at all. I dont have a laptop, and cellphone was a cheap kind. I was living paycheck to paycheck, and somehow contented with my job - 14K/month that time. I was a single mom, with 1 kid, supporting my parents as well.

now, 2015, my net worth is 1M. it might be small for others, but looking back 3 years ago, I was zero.  Now i have insurance, investments on MF and stocks, emergency fund, have travelled some parts of the Philippines and Asia, own house (but still paying for it), has a better job, and had a beautiful wedding.

My first year 2013 was struggle - I transferred to a new job, and had this moment of buying branded things for myself and family as its a wonderful experience that I can buy what I want now. My salary increased, but the expenses also tripled or even more.
2014 - planning for a wedding, a bit extravagant I guess, but my husband and I both wanted it and we split the expenses. I started investing and got a life insurance
2015 - wedding on January, and after that, i am more focused on savings and investments. No more branded stuff and expensive gift for others. Instead of buying expensive things, now I treat my family on travels as I think travelling gives you a better experience.

Hoping to increase my Net Worth in few years. happy to reach my 1M net worth on my 29th year. Hoping to reach 8 digits on 35th year.

Wow, you're aiming for at least 10M from 1M within 6 years?
You must be earning money like crazy :D

I'm curious, did the 1M come solely from your job?
Or do you have like a sideline?

Di ko alam yung Parkinsons Law. I had to Google it. Interesting! Ganyan yata yung nanay ko dati, kaya my parents were not able to build a nest egg for retirement.

Ako naman sometimes I have a problem spending money. Baliktad. And I get stressed pag hindi nasunod yung savings goal ko for the month dahil may unexpected expense. For example, let's say my monthly savings goal is 20k. Kaso may family member na nangutang, or whatever, and so nabwasan and 15k lang ang mase-save ko this month. Bwisit na bwisit ako.

Technically pwede namang bawiin ko next month, pero ewan ko ba -- as in stressed na stressed ako pag hindi nakaka-save. Ibang sakit na ito. Hahahaha!

Close to 300K din ako at the moment. Right now I'm still single so I make sure that my savings are intact and kept it waaayyy out of reach - masyado ako nadala nung OFW pa ko kasi andali gumasta then the next na sahod bawing-bawi yung nagastos mo; and all the while avoiding unnecessary expenses na rin. I still got money coming in pero it's nowhere close to what I'm used to getting before, its tough but in this day and age, nobody's getting any younger so masaya ako na wala akong pinagkaka-utangan na kahit na ano at syempre yung may naitabi ako solely for myself.

Personal forecast ko sa sarili ko: no plans of settling down either so somehow kuntento ako on what I have and what I'm currently getting.

Hi! nice to be back here! i feel free dahil finally i'm back! masyado ako nastress sa social media ng FB at IG kakaintriga ng showbiz at mga lifestyle ng mga elite at blogger doon.. anyway, na forgot ko ang username at password ko noon dahil 2013 last na visit ko here.. hmmm.. kahit dumating ako sa quarter life crisis at naging mega gastos, impulsive buyer at tamad ako.. i can say naman na nakamit ko ang inaasam kong networth! 7 digits na at far sa umpisa ng pang 7 digits.. close to half ng hundreds na.. but siyempre during the process ang dami ko natutunan at naubos na pera at nasayang din.. BUT siyempre kahit na-fall ako ng slight sa trap ng mga elitista at consumerista.. andito ako uli! may new business na rin ako... 3 business na maging 5 na.. kaya dito na lang ako tatambay kesa magubos ng oras sa mga chismis ng instagram... but my networth today is hindi ko aakalain makukuha yun within 5 years... so 4 years more pa.. gusto ko 8 digits na.. but dapat less than 4 years pipilitin ko makahabol na agad agad.. Pak ganern!  ;)

mid-2015 was a milestone for me-- hit 7-digit net worth for the first time.

invested in real estate, subdivision near a soon-to-rise MRT station location. 5 years to pay kaya medyo tipid tipid dapat in the next 5 years. i've always wanted to invest in real estate, thank you lord. sana po maging profitable sya, sana tumaas nang malaki ang value ng property doon, lalo na pagtungtong ng 2017, when the MRT 7 becomes operational.

after i hit the 7-figures for the first time, i stopped counting religiously. pero dapat may specific goal. hay, hirap kumita ng pera! you have to give a lot to get a lot.

This year has been a struggle for me but in fairness, I was able to maintain and increase the 8 digit net worth.

yehey, nabuhay ang thread!

i documented my net worth journey here starting may 2014. back then it was 500k. then in january 2015,  naging 1 million na finally dahil na-inspire ako dito. spent the next two years acquiring stocks and UITFs. now it's dec 2016 na, and i have reached 3 million!  :D :D this is my personal net worth, not including hubby's.  i also did not include depreciating things like my car.

barya lang ang 3 million sa ibang sis dito, but i must say-- i am quite proud of myself! this forum has inspired me a lot, and documenting my net worth semi-publicly has made me accountable. i did this all on my own, by saving a good part of my salary and side hustles.

my goal is to reach 8 figures in the next 5 to 7 years.  i will claim it now. it will happen. good vibes all around!

sa mga starting pa lang, you can do it! i am living proof that if you just tell your money where to go instead of wondering where it went, you can really save and invest.  ;)

^So that is all cash or near-liquid assets? Wow! Congratulations, Annie M.! Truly inspiring story. You are right in how letting other people know your goals instead of keeping it to yourself makes you feel like you are accountable. What would you say contributed the most to the growth of your net worth?

thanks, ikaela!

500k emergency fund
500k+ in stocks/mutual funds
800k+ cash on hand for a property that will be turned over next year, which i intend to rent out (ayoko na kasi mag loan so pinag-iipunan ko ito para ma-cash ko na yung remaining balance)
1.2 million - equity that i have already paid for that same property

basta matapos ko lang yung condo, i will funnel all my funds naman to mutual/stocks.

actually mas mataas pa yung net worth if i add half of the value of the condo where hubby and i live now. technically, half of it is mine. pero to me, the house you live in is not an asset.

hmmm i attribute the increase in my net worth to living below my means. boring, nothing spectacular. i save more than half of my salary and save/invest automatically. even when i got a sizable promotion, my lifestyle did not change. also, i identify as a minimalist, so hindi talaga ako ma-shopping except for the occasional splurge every 2 or 3 years hahaha.

sorry ang haba na. i can?t talk about these things naman in normal life so dito lang ako sa forum dumadaldal about finance  :D thank you for reading!

From http://thepoc.net/index.php/ikaw-magkano-ka-how-to-calculate-your-net-worth/

1.   Start by listing your largest assets. This would include your home, vehicles, jewelries. Collections,  Make sure you use accurate estimates .
2.   Next, you?ll want to gather your latest statements for your more liquid assets. This includes checking and savings accounts, cash, CDs, or other paper assets such as mutual funds or insurances.
3.   Now, take all of the assets you have listed in the previous steps and add them together. This number represents your total assets.
4.   It is time to look at liabilities. Again, start with the major outstanding liabilities such as the balance on your mortgage or car loans and list those.
5.   Next, list all of your personal liabilities such as credit cards, or any other debt you may owe.
6.   Add up all of your liabilities to come up with a total.
7.   Finally, subtract the total liabilities from the total assets and you will have your net worth. It doesn?t matter how big, how small, or even if it is negative. This is just a starting point to have something to compare against in the future.
8.   Repeat this process once a year and compare it with the previous year?s number. You can then determine if you are making progress or getting further behind.

eto naman online calculator. isipin mo na lang peso  ;)

update ko since 2016. medyo challenge ang 2016 for me. made a big investment sa real estate, kaya buong 2016 doon lang napupunta yung bulk ng income and i was also liquidating some of my other investments.

thank God, parang luluwag na for 2017. good thing about paying amortization for a real estate property, napupwersa akong mag- "save" (more than "save" actually, kasi investment yung binabayad ko for the property) every month.

we bought 2 lots. our plan from the beginning was to sell the 2nd lot after a year, kaya salamat talaga Lord, natupad ang plano. malaking sugal, pero in the end, okay naman. hindi ganon kalaki ang tubo, but mas malaki pa rin yung inearn ng pera kesa kung nilagak lang sa bangko o ininvest sa Mutual funds or stocks.  nakuha kasi namin yung lots at 0% interest on amortization (may promo ang developer at the time we bought them) kaya malaking bagay yun.

ngayon gagamitin namin yung pinagbentahan namin sa 2nd lot to continue paying for the 1st property.  God-willing, sana walang maging aberya at sana maging mas okay ang income sa trabaho this 2017 kesa 2016.

NET WORTH as of Feb 2017:  around 1.7 M (bulk nun sa real estate property na binabayaran pa rin namin until now, also cash receivable from pinagbentahan ng lupa. hindi ko alam kung dapat bang i-include sa liabilities yung monthly amortization? though hindi ko sinama dito yung current value ng property, just the amount we have paid for so far, as amortization)

AGE: 36 (37 by april)

hindi ko rin sinama yung assets and liabilities ng husband ko.  sa ngayon kasi mas madaling i-manage ang finances kung kanya-kanya muna kami.

NEW GOAL by Feb 2018: 1.9 M.

Question

Pano i account yung ganitong items (Anong amount ilalagay ko sa pag compute ng realistic na net worth):

Condo Unit - Bought for 1.7M, paid 500k so far and approx 1.2M balance pa sa bank (133 months pa). Current market value is 3M.

Sun Life Insurance: 1 yr ko pa lang nababayadan for around 1200/mo

Meron din akong biniling isa pang condo unit + parking and magstart payment each mo for 15k/mo for 5 yrs. Balance thereafter 4M.

Thank you :)

Hello Ma Haki,

NET WORTH is assets minus liabilities.

Based on your post, ganito ang pag-compute:

LIABILITIES (Utang)
1,200,000 - payable for condo 1
900,000 - payable downpayment for condo 2 (15k/month for 5 years)
4,000,000 - payable balance upon turnover for condo 2
TOTAL LIABILITIES: 6,100,000

ASSETS
500,000 - paid so far for condo 1
14,400 - insurance 1200/monthly for 1 year  (although mukhang mali ito--this early in the contract, you probably won't get back your premiums if ever you decide to stop)
3,000,000 - estimated value of condo 1 (assuming you can sell it right away for this amount)
TOTAL ASSETS: 3,514,400

NET WORTH
Assets minus liabilities
So: 3,514,400 - 6,100,000
NET WORTH TOTAL:   -2,585,600 (negative)

Of course I'm sure you also have cash on hand, emergency fund, etc. Lagay mo na lang sa assets and recompute. Hope this helps.
