yes that 1m was hard earned money as in bata pa lang ako sobra na ako mag ipon, I even help my auntie sa restaurant when I was little haha!
Modelling is more of hobby lang, I earned thru flying and investments that I have... tska big factor din yung I own my own salary wala ako pinapadalhan just like other ofw's.. I always believe not to settle in one income kaya dami ko pinagkaka abalahan pati nga pagiging writer sa newspaper during my free time..

ako i'm 34 years old, a mom of 3 but yet i don't have enough savings.

My son is currently studying in a private school he's 10 lang kaya need to save talaga  for his education.
3 yrs old- nursery

Nakakatawa nga kase i have lot of accounts (ATM) and I named it as follows:

Emergency account- BPI Direct  (100k)
Savings Account- BPI direct  (130k)
House bill account ( electricity, water and others)- Metro Bank (70K)

Shopping account- PNB ( dito ko hinuhulog ang aking pang shopping tulad ngayon may pasukan na naman so dito ko kinukuha mga pambili ng gamit nila -20k

Travel account- Dito ko kinukuha ang gastos ko sa pag travel, purchase ng tickets which i did last 2011 europe- BDO ( passbook dollar account) ang natira from the tou- $500

Solicitation and tights and offerings act- di maiwasan talaga na may mangutang na kapatid ,kamag anak, close frnd. di naman naman malaki yong iba 500, 1,500 so nag open ako ng account para dito. pag walang laman pasensya wala talaga. inopen ko 'to as solicitation kase di naman nagbabayad
 for the Glory of God kumukuha ako para sa tights and offering ko sa ibang account. di pwedeng hindi..after all He is the source of richness and all blessings


For my kids:
BDO Junior act- each has 60k ( not bad)

Right now I have six digits combined savings, UITF and MF accounts spread in four banks; but then again I just bought a new house for myself so it looks like negative pa because of the home loan. Hehe but that's all my hard work and walang help from parents. OK narin para habang bata, maaayos na ang bahay.  I'm 26 btw.

I've worked for 2 years in my previous company.. I was even promoted, but because of complications, I had to resign.. Grabe, wala ako naipon.. Since first job ko, syempre puro labas ng pera... Binili ko lahat ng gusto ko.. Hanggang nung nagresign ako, narealize ko, wala man lang ako naipon.. haaay..

Haay, nagloan pa ako sa bank pero wala naman pinuntahan un pera, naubos nalang bigla.. sobrang gastos ko kasi before..

Now that Im doing my part time job for about 5months, maybe ang savings ko lang sa bank is 33,000.. Grabe, sobrang baba compared sa iba.. Im 24 years old..

I have a buy and sell online gadget shop, pero syempre hindi naman sa lahat ng panahon kumikita ako dun.. pero dahil sa mga nabasa ko, I'll make it a goal na din to try to be a millionaire when I turn 30.. very inspiring eh..

Sabi nga nila, if there's a will, there's way..

Pinag-aaralan ko na din ngaun kung pano ang mutual funds, I might start soon.. Kahit mga 10k muna siguro, para mapag-aralan ko pano galaw ng economy..

24 yo, okay lang yang sis. at 24, wala pa nga akong konsepto ng ipon. hindi ko nga mamaintain ang savings account ko. pag medyo lumaki yung pera onhand, mabawasan nga. ganun ang attitude ko. buti nga ikaw aware ka na at 24.

naging aware lang ako of finances nung nakaranas ako ng perosnal bankruptcy. hindi lang ako 0 balance. negative pa. i was 28. andami ko nang work experience. andami ko nang pinagdaanan professionally. pero in limbo ako and i didn't want to do the work i was doing, not anymore. desidido na akong magpalit ng profession. kaya kahit may mga offers for the old job, kahit negative ang financial state ko, hindi ko talaga tinanggap. nagsimula ako uli.

grabe yung time na yun. at 28, nakaasa ako sa magulang?! san napunta lahat ng mga kinita? quarter life crisis talaga. siguro nga to grow and be aware of finances kailangan mong makaranas ng rock bottom. at least for a bulagsak like me. ngayon hindi na ako bulagsak. pwede pa ring magbago ang mga bulagsak! haha

i got the job that i wanted, i started again. unti unti binuhay ko ang savings account ko. binayaran ko ang utang ko. the day i was debt-free, ang sarap ng feeling. sarili ko na lang ang babayaran ko every payday.

another turning point was when i discovered this book by alvin tabanag about financial planning. dun ko nadiscover ang mutual funds. 

from 0 balance in 2008, ngayon happy to say na i'm financially stable. i like to enjoy life, i don't deprive myself, pero nakakaipon pa rin at nakakabuhay rin ng pamilya (my parents are already retired). knock on wood! hindi ko pa naachieve ang target ko, marami pa rin akong plano.  pero sobrang thank ful ako na at 33 nakapagtabi na ako sa apat na stable mutual fund companies at may insurance na rin ako for my and my husband's twilight years.

in a nutshell, it's never too late to save up. kahit anong edad ka pa, lahat tayo (except a few fortunate ones) nagsisimula sa wala. pero syempre pagdating sa savings, the earlier, the better. time is money.

yung ibang mfs, like sunlife, 5k ang minimum initial. i suggest sis magresearch ka sa internet about mutual funds bago ka maginvest. kasi syempre pera mo yan, dapat alam mo kung anong mangyayari dyan. marami kasing klase ng mfs at maraming companies na nagooffer nyan. you can google MUTUAL FUNDS, may thread din dito sa GT about mfs.

pero ang masasuggest ko sa yo, sunlife, philequity, FAMI, and PAMI. meron ako sa apat na yan. sorry, OT hehe

sis ikaela inspiring naman ang kwento mo... ako din yan din ang goal ko, to be financially free as soon as possible!

siguro nga may lessons to be learned kaya nangyayari ang mga unpleasant events sa buhay natin. tulad nga ng sa kwento mo, simple living is actually not bad, pero kung kuripot naman masyado o walang konsepto ng charity or sharing with others (dunno about your case, though, ito ba ang tinutukoy mo?) hindi rin naman healthy.

actually ngayon napapansin ko medyo nagfofall ako sa trap na yon... yung counting pennies... ever since i realized the value of savings and money, malaking issue talaga sa akin pag may sumasalbahe sa akin with regards to money. sumasama ang loob ko kapag may nangungutang tapos hindi nagbabayad. pag may gustong manloko, pag kulang ang sukli, pag nagsosolicit... i think twice, i count pennies. lalo na pag may negosyo ka, mindful ka talaga of every peso. pero ngayon nachecheck ko na ang sarili ko. dahil nasa wealth building stage pa lang ako hindi pa talaga ako makakapagbigay sa charity nang bongga. hindi pa ako makakapagsponsor ng foundation. pero kahit man lang sa mga barya at extrang pera na mabibigay sa mga taxi drivers, barkers, maids kapat inuutusang bumili ng something, tips sa restos, i try to take the opportunity na makapagshare ako sa ibang tao.  paraan ng pag pay forward sa mga binigay ni god na blessings, kahit in little ways lang.

Ngayon naman I'm learning how to take risks with money. Para naman umabot yung net worth ko to the levels of those who say they're worth 40M, 50M, 100M and more! Weird, kasi di ba, they say you're supposedly bolder when you're younger. But for me, I was more risk-averse when I was younger, kasi ang liit-liit na nga ng money ko, isusugal ko pa. Eh now that I have "play" money, I feel like I can take the risk. As the old saying goes, "If you don't risk something, you will never gain anything."

^^ sis I am not a risk taker myself.  I just worked and lived below my means.  never had a loan in my entire life except for my first home, because ayaw ko ng may utang. Tapos I minimized pa my loan sa level na kaya ko and opted to paydown kung kaya ko, kaya loan term ko was only 3-4 years lang.  Overall, I just use what I have, kung wala, wala and tiis.

In terms of saving, I save slowly but surely on conservative investments.  Hindi kasi ako risk taker and I hear you sis, ito nanga lang money ko, isusugal ko pa.  Pero there are such a thing as lower risk investments naman, ang importante humahabol ang money savings mo sa inflation.

also, kelangan mo rin kasi tingnan yung age nung tao, kasi through the years they have worked for their xxM net worth naman. in my case, kasi wala na naman sa calendaryo ang age ko, dapat lang naman siguro ang net worth eh nasa xxM na otherwise, I should be panicking na how to sustain my retirement.
