Dog Bites and Anti-Rabies

^ actually ako din na-nip ng puppy ko and gasgas lang naman siya talaga pero just to be sure nagpa-vaccine na ko and itinuloy ko na hanggang 5th shot. parang preparation na for future bites na wag naman sanang mangyari. cousin ko din pinakumpleto ko na kasi siya yung madalas nakikipaglandian sa aso. ok lang naman kasi sa center siya nagpabakuna so mejo mura lang. sakin ang mahal kahit na yung 1st vaccine/s eh sagot ng health card ko. almost 2k na each succeeding shots. pikit-mata na lang ako.

Kinagat din ako ng cat namin, sinigawan ko lang sya na umalis dahil pahara hara sa daan ko,tas nung nakatalikod na ako bigla na lang ako kinagat sa may right leg ko. Takot ako sa injection so i waited until day 8 na magpa vaccine kasi napaparanoid ako and for my peace of mind na din. After doing some research mejo mahal sa mga private hosp and found out na pwede din pala sa pgh. So i went there yesterday at category 2 ang exposure ko kasi sa binti at small bite lang namn, mas delikado daw pala from shoulder up. Anti rabies unit (aru) is located next to the emergency room, mejo mahirap hanapin, u have to walk past ER then turn right ,about 20 steps u will see a NO ENTRY sign dun sa gate pero may guard ,dun [textspeak!] entrance ( i know, ang weird noh) 2f ang ARU.  Consultation is 830-10am lang daw. I was there 910 pero wala pa si doc, she got there after 30 mins. I was told i need to get a shot of verorab and tetanus toxoid. I was given a form and proceeded to their cashier to pay 500 for verorab and 7 for boue card and then after that to the ER to get my blue card. Went back to ARU to get the shot and paid 70 directly to the nurse for tetanus toxoid. I paid 577 in total. I need 3 more shots of verorab and 2 more tetanus t. Hay pahirap tong pusa na to

^Yes sis mas delikado kapag shoulder up since brain ang target ni rabies. So mas malapit sa brain, mas mabilis magtravel si rabies at mas agapan dapat ang pagpapa vaccine. Remember, once activated na ang rabies ay wala ng silbi yung mga anti rabies shots.

mahal ang vaccines pag medyo later years mo na itetake kasi based yon sa weight mo. if you had anti rabies when you're still a kid, booster shots na lang kelangan. so cheaper sya. sa MMC, roughly 30k inabot early 20's na yung friend ko. pero some HMO covered ito but with certain amount.

^ most HMO sis covered ang animal bites and anti rabies. pero iba iba lang ang amount. itong samin, Intellicare 18k lang ang covered. you can ask your health care provider para sure magkano

Hi mga sis d kase ako makatulog e, last last night feeling ko nkalmot ako ng tuta namen half breed spitz/askal lang sya bigay lang ng frend ko mga around 4mos na sya ngayon. wala pa syang shots. nung sabado nakikipaglaro iyong aso ko sa akin. bigla na lang tumama iyong ipin nya sa kamay ko pero di ko naramdaman na bumaon. nag-alcohol ako agad pagtapos nyang tamaan iyong kamay ko. wala akong naramdamang hapdi sa kamay pero until now namumula iyong kamay ko na tinamaan. di ko tuloy alam ngayon kung magpapainject ako ng anti-rabies or wag na lang kasi nga wala namang sugat at di ko rin naramdaman na bumaon iyong ipin nya.

LAst Jan 1, 2015 na scratch ng dog namin un forehead ko.mahilig kasi mag kiss un dog namin,so akala ko kiss lang nya ako sa forehead ko,pagkita ko nagdudugo na. Naalarma ako,hinugasan ko agad then alcohol ko. Wala pa syang vaccine kasi 3 months pa lang sya..sumunod na mga araw maliksi sya,walang nagbago. Hindi ako nagpa inject kasi naisip ko rin palagi naman nasa bahay lang ang dog namin at hindi nakakalabas ng house.

January 6 natakot ako kasi tumamlay sya at nagsusuka, pumunta agad ako sa Pasig City hall kasi meron animal bite center dun, nagpa inject ako ng anti rabies pero pinapunta nila ako sa Rizal Medical Center need daw ako mag inject ng ERIG kasi nasa face area. Ang mahal ng gamot, 3900php ang nagastos ko kasi 3 vials ang need ko.

Grabe ang sakit ng skin test pa lang,tas tinurok sa akin un ERIG sa legs,ang sakit pala nun,pagka inject bumigat un legs ko.

True ba na kapag nasa house lang ang dog wala naman rabies?  pero natakot rin ako kaya ng nagkasakit si dog namin nagpa inject na rin ako.

Lifetime ba ang ERIG? VinRab un nabili kong ERIG eh

Hi Girls. I am on my 4th shot now. I just want to post my experience since it might help others. It really cost me a lot but my objective here is to give more information to others.  This is what happened when I got bitten/scratched by a dog (house pet of my friend, seems fully vaccinated, pure bred chow chow):

1. I rushed to the ER (Makati Med) roughly 2 hours after I got bitten. BTW, I cleaned the wound after being bitten. This is really important according to my research the following days.

2. I was prescribed Verorab 0.5/vial to be injected intramuscularly. There are a total of 5 shots (Day 0, Day 3, Day 7, Day 14 and Day 28). It will cost you PHP1875 for the first shot alone in Makati Med. My total cost for the ER was PHP4,502: including the 1st vial, Bactroban antibacterial ointment (PHP309), ER fee (PHP1,200), Intramuscular Injection (PHP250), Doctor's Fee (PHP800) and the medical supplies (because the nurse also cleaned my wound).

2nd shot: I tried looking for other options for the remaining shots that I needed to take.
a. Mercury Drugstore branches are out of Verorab for a long time now. But each vial will cost PHP1600++

b. PGH Pharmacy: They were closed (I went on a Saturday during the Pope's visit to inquire for my Day 3's shot).

c. San Lazaro Hospital in Manila: Initially, I wanted to buy the vial only and have my sister-in-law administer it to me; but I was declined by their Pharmacy. I needed to have a San Lazaro prescription in order for me to buy. Same with PGH, they are closed during Sundays and will only accept certain exceptions such us very critical conditions and babies/elders. The kind nurses told me that it was ok to miss a day when completing the shots so they asked me to come back Monday. I went back Monday at 6am. (Please check online the process there.) I got to to finally talk to the doctor by 9:30AM only to be rejected since they do not have any supplies of Verorab. According to the doctor, I could shift to what they had then, but of course there were risks (allergy, vomit, death) and I needed to sign a waiver before she can give me a different prescription. I decided to proceed with what has already been prescribed to me originally.

d. St. Lazarus Animal Bite Clinic (Clinic right in front of the entrance of San Lazaro Hospital. One with the blue door): I got my 2nd shot here. It cost me a total of PHP1,500. But they also have cheaper alternatives, similar to what is being offered by San Lazaro with each vial costing around PHP400-500. I honestly prefer this clinic over the hospital because there was no line at all. Well, 1-2 patients before me. Everything was done by 10 mins once I had made up my mind to proceed with what has been prescribed to me from Day 0. (The cheaper alternative was very tempting but I have to start with Day 0 again if I decided to shift. In monetary terms, the whole 5 shots would be equivalent to 2 shots of my original prescription.)

e. I went back to St. Lazarus Clinic for my 3rd shot. Btw, they are open  24/7. They even texted me the morning of my Day 7 shot to remind me of it. Unfortunately, when I went there around 9PM, there were out of stock of Verorab. Fortunately, the pharmacy beside it (Long Life Drug Corp) was still open and had available supplies. The vial costs PHP1600. The nurse from the clinic was kind enough to administer it to me.

f. I texted the clinic for my 4th shot (which will be tomorrow). Unfortunately, they are still out of stock. The nurse textmate suggested that I can shift to their available vaccine since it is my last shot (it will still have the same effect). I'm still undecided but I do have other options. One is again, hopefully Long Life still has supplies. Or 2, I already called the UST Pharmacy and I was informed that they have supplies available. Each vial will cost PHP1400++. They also accept prescriptions from other hospitals.

Some conflicting things I've heard so far:
1. The doctor from Makati Med advised me to follow through with the schedule on the dot. The doctors and nurses from both San Lazaro hospital and St Lazarus clinic told me that you can miss it a day or two.

2. The doctor from Makati Med prescribed 5 shots to me. The resident doctor from San Lazaro hospital mentioned that for public hospitals, they only prescribe 4 shots. When I asked the doctor from the SL hospital if I can have 4 shots instead of 5, she mentioned that the last shot serves as a booster (and will protect you for 3 more years).

Notes:
1. Check with the hospitals (outpatient) or pharmacies if they are open on weekends and holidays.
2. Government pharmacies do not accept prescriptions from other hospitals.

Why I prefer the SL clinic over the SL hospital:
- NO LINE. NO LINE. NO FREAKING LINE. 

- Helpful and patient nurses. - They answered all my questions and paranoia. Don't hesitate to call or text them. Really.

- And in terms of cost, I figure that they (SL clinic and SL hospital) are practically almost the same. I think the system in the hospital will ask several patients to share with a vial and cost between them. Patients have to ask around and look for partners. In the clinic, they have readily available already cost down vials (PHP400-500).

- They text you to remind you of your shot!

Btw, I do not think that they are affiliated. Anyway, I hope this helps someone out. Especially those prescribed with Verorab.

I was first bitten on the hand by a stray dog last year 7 February 2015. I had my shots at the Animal Bite Center of East Avenue Medical Center in QC. E-Rig, Verorab, Anti tetanus shots yung binigay. I followed the schedule of vaccines until Day 28/30.

Tapos on 25 January 2016, nakagat na naman ako. This time it was from a stray cat I was taking care of. The bites were deeper. Since my vaccination was just less than a year ago, the doctor (at Medicard Fairview) only scheduled me for two shots: Day 0 and Day 3, Verorab and ATS only. Covered naman ng HMO lahat and they also had the vaccines available at the clinic.

If you're from marikina, kahit yung cases na sobrang malalim yung kagat or neck up, go to marikina bite center. tyagaan niyo lang sa pila pero ang laki ng matitipid.

sana may budget ang bawat baranggay sa anti-rabies. para kahit bawat baranggay merong libreng vaccine. hirap kasi pag buong city/munisipyo ang maghahati-hati. grabe ang haba ng pila. pero tyagaan nga lang talaga sis para makatipid.

Hi mga sis. I hope someone can enlighten me. Nakagat ng aso yung maid namin, the doctor said anti tetanus muna ang bibigay niyang shot. Observe daw muna yung aso for 10 days kung mamamatay then saka magpashot ng anti rabies. Ganun ba yun?

wala bang sugat ang maid nyo dahil sa kagat? kasi dapat ininject na ng anti-rabies if may sugat at nakagat talaga. though ako nung kinagat kasi wala ring sugat at di bumaon ang teeth nya kaya di rin ako ininject ng anti-rabies at anti-tetanus lang ang ininject. 2 doctors na nagsabi sa akin kasi noon.

Walang dugo sis pero parang may bumaon din kagat. Hinugasan agad soap and water after. Aside from anti tetanus binigyan din siya ibang oral  meds. 12th day na ngayon since nung bite pero yung aso hindi niya kasi sure kung saan dun yung kumagat or baka tinago ng owner kung namatay man or what. Ano ba dapat makitang symptoms sa tao ngayon sis na pang 12 days na? In case meron rabies
