newbie here... and i don't know if this is the right thread...
like most moms, last month I'm faced with dilemma of changing my daugther's school. previously, she is enrolled in colegio de san juan de letran-calamba branch. i am a graduate of ust (dominican) so i would like my kids to be studying in a dominican school like letran. plus factor is the established name of the school.
all goes well until 1st week of april, i had this mother intuition and asked her if she still wanted to enroll in her current school. i was shocked when she replied, "i don't like anymore". my instinct told me that something is wrong and after series of questioning, i've found out that she cannot cope with bullying.
my daughter do good while in her pre-school years and even recognized for her math and english abilities. when she enrolled on this school, her abilities was not recognized. she is enrolled in kumon math and english and even a national awardee for 5 years and beyond skills.
anyway, when she took up an exam in this private school in calamba, she failed! according to the principal, she is an incoming grade 4 and yet her reading and comprehension is like a grade 1. i was frustrated, maybe furious, because i've felt that my kid is very "mentally challenged". how could it be? her grades are all 90+, no below 90. the principal also mentioned that they will not accept my child for whatever reason...
that's when i search the internet and found this thread and learned the difference of progressive and traditional school. for me, calamba only have one progressive school and that is integrated montessori center. upon the visit they showed us they are an authentic montessori school (the principal showed us the certificate of accreditation) compared to other montessori school in calamba. i've wasted no time and have my daughter take the exam. luckily, she passed, eventhough there are other parents who are not lucky as i am. according to the principal of IMC, they are using singapore math and science and my child may get a low score. to make the long story short, i was advised to enroll her to summer enrichment camp so that she could "take the feel" of the school AND somehow regain her lost confidence. Yes, confidence! Based on their assessment, my child has an inferiority complex which most probably got from her previous school.
they are not traditional school and respect the child's individualism. she even assured us that in 10 months (next March) time, a lot of good change will happen to my kid. we got excited and gave our youngest a try for JC1, and she passed also.
as of now, am happy with what we've saw in IMC and hoping that they will stood and keep with their vision. BTW, TF for JC1 is 42K (cash) and 46K (grade 4) excluding books, uniforms, etc.
