convenient for me to go to on a regular basis (3-4x a week), kaya maganda malapit sa workplace
maraming squat rack
olympic bar dapat (45 lbs)
has 2.5 lbs plates
enough dumbbells that you don't have to wait for someone to finish before using desired weight
walang paki-alamerong trainers na broscience lang ang alam
hindi mukhang pera yung establishment
reasonable membership fee

for me naman a gym should:

1. Have lots of free weights and machines. lots of cable machines. and all the accessories.
2. should have multiple racks, dumbell sets, barbell sets and benches to avoid congestion during peak hours.
3. big stretching area. again to avoid being a nuisance to fellow members going around.
4. lockers and free usage of them.
5. good change rooms and they should always be clean and dry outside the shower area.
6. water fountains with good filters scattered around the gym.
7. a gym that enforces good hygiene practices such as:
a) putting a towel behind your back or under the but when using machines, benches etc
b) disinfectant in a spray bottle with a rag for people to wipe the machine after use. (after all pinawisan nila di ba?)
8. a gym that enforces gym etiquette
9. enough parking space.
10. should have back up generators to power treadmills.
11. no contract no obligation gyms. and no direct debit. just pay every month. no pay, no gym. lahat napag uusapan.
12. TV screens scattered, specially near the treadmills.
13. very personal preference - not so cold environment. para pawisan ka talaga. but only hardcore gyms are like this.
14. aerobic classes and the like
15. other gym accessories, balls, medicine balls, TRX ...blah blah.
16. good location of course.
17. gyms na maganda mag maintain ng equipment hindi yung one month hindi magamit lahat ng treadmill.

now the following naman, medyo depende na sa gym kung dahil malaking commitment or investment ang kailangan.

1) gyms with additional facilities like boxing ring with trainer (extra pay).
2) other sports facilities such as Basketball court, tennis court, swimming pool, squash. sa ibang bansa kasi gyms hire multiple floors or huge land areas and put these facilities.
3) free personal trainer. well, my gym did this before. they have this certain monthly fee that is higher than the standard fee, but you get a personal trainer. a lot of us went for this set up. at peak hour, trainers would shuffle between clients. not 100% tutok, but it beats not having a trainer. besides, we can call them beyond our workout times to ask advice. it also encouraged clients to workout at off peak hours para solo nila and in the process draw people away from going to the gym at peak hours.
4) free nutrition advice. free fitness assessment. free this and free that. pero hindi weekly ha. once a month dapat.
5) gym restaurant/canteen area where you can socialize BEFORE and AFTER workout. it is also a good place to have your PRE-workout meal and POST workout meal and even MID workout meal for the hardcore gym goers.
6) rooms for rent for those interested in private group classes. ie. private yoga class; private zumba
7) 24-7 gym hours.
#8) monthly activities for interested parties ie. contests

i kinda miss the social events in my previous gym but sometimes i just want to go there for a work out. minsan kasi when you're really familiar with people things get nasty.

falling in love with people or with someone who works there, oks lang.

but when people tend to forget their roles and it becomes a huge barkada....iba na yun.

so far eto naiisip ko as of typing this.
