After that, you really need to practice cus that's where you develop your strategy.

Madalas I park pa din the usual way tapos I call my colleagues to park it na paatras hahaha.

Yesterday kase I decided to try driving home that way baka maluwag kase umaga naman. Actually, I shouldnt be surprised na nga cus it's Cubao afterall and anywhere na may jeepney drivers, stress talaga ang aabutin sa kalsada!

^ not sure where you're going or coming from sis. pero iniiwasan ko rin ang aurora because of that. baka mas maganda pa kung pumasok ka na lang sa araneta center. maluwag sa loob nun kahit may mga stoplight pa.

Lol. I decided to check this topic coz I read the word "Frustrated"..
Nakakainis [textspeak!]. Beginner kasi ako sa driving. And kakaenroll ko lang sa driving school. Once a week lang ako nakakapagpractice and one hour lang yun. When my dad coaches me in his free time, he gets really angry na hindi ko pa master ang basics, e naka enroll na nga daw ako sa driving school.

I mean, hello. E once a week lang talaga. so far, ive had my hands on the wheel for just two hours p [textspeak!]. and pati pa ang mom ko is saying na ang tagal ko daw matuto.

I feel like a slow learner tuloy. I'm just a beginner with totally no knowledge on  operating a car when I first sat in the driver's seat. [textspeak!] nya is im much ok daw compared to others.

Im really struggling to keep up but sometimes they say words that really make me feel....  :'(.

^ I feel for you sis... I was under the same situation just a month ago and I know exactly how truly disconcerting it is especially when time comes when youre behind the wheel and your dad harangues you for something he anticipates youve already learned given the fact that youre already attending formal driving classes.

The condescending remarks I got from my dad while being guided attenuated my already denuded self-esteem. Ang galing ko daw sa ibang bagay esply with my work then yun ganung simpleng timpla lang ng pedals di ko makuha.. gah! it really can weigh you down to teh point where youd be questioning yourself if you really can pull it thru.

Btw, what type are you trying to learn, manual or automatic tranny? In my case manual transmission and I can say my dad is indeed a really good driver, he's been driving nearly everyday for the past 4.5 decades of his life. Friends, relatives and even acquaintances can attest to his proficiency. But there are people who are very well proficient in a given skill and yet they dont hold that aptitude to effectively impart or teach what they know, do you believe that?

And my dad is that kind of person. He swiftly judged that after having given me the fundamentals of manning a manual tranny car, i shld be able to have gotten it quickly as well and the rest shld rely on my very own "diskarte". But diif strokes really do apply for diff folks. And I learned better thru another friend who helped and guided me out driving on major thoroughfares in under 3 hours.

Another thing is, fathers unavoidably tend to become overprotective in this respect so they naturally are the first ones to panic when teh car gets stalled right in the middle of traffic or be excessively wary that you might bump into something or someone which further weakens your confidence. Close kins dont mean to act in such a way but I strongly suggest you find a friend or an acquaintance whose driving skills you trust and have him/her instruct and guide you instead. You shld be able to adapt more quickly and effectively.

^SIS! *HUGS* Everything you said is so true.!

Manual me sis. Mas ok daw kasi un. And my brother said that if you knew Manual then matic is very easy na.

Regarding those people that are very good in a given skill but cannot teach efficiently.. I agree with you.. not everyone can do that...  doing a skill for years indeed makes you a master on it, but TEACHING IT?? thats completely on another level. It depends on one's patience and the ability to explain things in a simple way diba? :)

Yes sis, i got judged too... literally everytime I try to drive with my dad. It was bad... Though I try to take it as constructive criticism as much as I can.

Thanks sis.! Now I feel like I'm not alone .  :D It helps when you know someone else went through the same frustrating situation and succeeded.   ;D

I know I can do this!  ;D

[textspeak!] sis, I'll follow your advice and find a close friend who can teach me. and hopefully it turns out well. :)
xoxo

^ Good luck then, im pretty sure you'll be swerving your way recklessly in EDSA in no time hahaha!

Kidding aside., just give yourself a deadline as up to when you'll remain a student in driving. Btw, Im used to being on teh road almost everyday for work but never behind the steering wheel. It's fairly recently that I get to do so when Ive finally secured a driving license and from personal experience, you really have to be 101% attentive when on the road. Driving in Manila now has become more arduous with the presence of irresponsible and untrained road users as far as some motorcycle riders are concerned.

And when you avow you can pull it, youre most certainly right ;) Go, go go!

ladyuna, do you live in a subdivision? If so, try to practice driving around, without your dad, kahit first and second gears + reverse lang. ;) I agree with OD, fathers can make the worst driving instructors.

I also learned a manual at first, and my dad wasn't too harsh on my driving, although there were a few instances of overreaction. I just never had the motivation to drive on my own.

But what finally convinced me to drive on my own? We hired a new driver, and he turned out to be a far worse driver than me. Now, I drive fairly decently, but this idiot was going too slow on SLEX and didn't even know how to change gears properly! So, the next day, I drove with him in the passenger seat, and natakot daw siya sa kaskas ko. He learned how to shift properly from his tito after sinumbong ko, but I still fired him, wala pa siyang one month sa amin.

So since then, I've finally been driving solo. It also helped that I got an automatic. :)

Not all fathers naman. Papa ko nun nasigawan nya ang mama ko kaya nabangga. pero when he was teaching my siblings, from my sister and brothers - natutulog lang sya sa passenger seat. siguro natuto na sya kaya naging ganun na sya magturo. nung ako na ang nag-aaral - after ko magdrive across metro manila, palagi kami nag-aaway. nakakuha na kasi ako ng sarili kong diskarte at palagay ko magkaiba kami kaya kami nag-aaway. hehe!

ako din medyo frustrated pa. hehe. i learned how to drive 10 yrs ago. manual car of my father and kuya. tapos mga 5 yrs ago nahinto kasi nagka bf na ko. since hatid sundo naman ako hindi ko na dinadala kotse ng tatay or kuya ko.

now that i'm married and have my own car, medyo nawala naman yung confidence ko sa pagdra drive. although ngayon medyo humuhupa na sya kasi i try to drive more often. ang hindi ko lang kaya is magpark ng parallel na masikip.

For me, Its best kung sa driving school nlang magpaturo instead of sa relatives... kasi once na nasisigawan or nagagalit yung teacher.. bababa ng bababa yung self esteem sa driving.. kaya lalong magiging takot.. so it would still be better kung mgenroll nalang ng magenroll sa driving school...   ;)

^Agree sis. Although nung una, gusto ko din si hubby lang magturo saken but even sya naman said na it's better if someone else did the teaching. My hubby kase has a naturally loud voice and when he doesnt watch it, parang akala mo galit sya kahit hinde naman. When I was just new at driving, I specifically told him na wag bigla sisigaw or magre-react when I'm driving kase ako naman magugulatin and panicky so obviously hinde kame magandang combination sa daan. In all the time na kasama ko sya when I drive, once pa lang yan nag-react ng mejo hinde maganda and I was sooo pissed kase muntik ko na mabangga yung island sa gulat.

@V_for_Victoria:
Nope, unfortunately, we dont live in a subdivision. Pero meron samin malapit. We go to church there every weekends. Try ko magpractice dun. thanks sis! ^^

@twelvth_goddess
Naku sis, ganyan na ganyan dad ko. I'm not saying he's a bad person at all, its just like this when we're practice driving.  ;D

I already asked my friend to teach me in his free time. May classes pa kasi kami so tuwing weekends lang talga pwede. haha.

Thanks talga sisses. You helped me overcome this doubt and fear of mine. :)

just an update mga sis,

i can drive on my own na, from work to home and vise versa!!!! HOWEVER, i still don't know how to park properly. =(

dati natatakot akong umalis mag isa, pero mas madali pala matuto kapag you're on your own driving na, makukuha mo rin yung tamang diskarte.
