How much exercise do you need
« on: August 20, 2010, 09:47:10 am »
since i am a "diet freak", sort of anorexic, body conscious, calorie counter, waist line frequent checker weirdo (ok, i'll stop blabbing) ... i'm constantly in search of ways to keep slim.

So i stumbled on this medical site that has an article on exercise. And here's what i read:

"The 2005 guidelines put all this together and refined the information," says Bryant, "basically saying you want to strive to get in as much physical activity as you can on most days: 30 minutes a day if you're a person of normal body weight and you just want the health benefits of being physically active, 60 minutes if you want to control your weight, and 90 minutes if you want to lose and sustain."  :o

And i also watched a show in Lifestyle Network that featured exercise in an episode. In that episode, an exercise researcher said that if you eat a bowl of ice cream in a day, you can't burn it in an hour. It requires 3 hours of extreme exercise.

i hate our world today for ever inventing yummy fatty foods. LOL

if you're trying to slim down, it's much more effective to avoid the bowl of ice cream than it is to try to exercise it off! :)

since training with weights and building more muscle mass, i've been able to eat more without getting fat. but that still doesn't mean i can eat anything i want anytime. :)

somebody told me that EATING FRIES alone can cause cancer. let's all be healthy mga sis. We should take care of ourselves.

We should take in charge of our health. Because it is not a chance but it is a choice to become healthy.

Do interval training sis.  4mins of a High Intensity Interval Training burns at least as much or more calories than 30-45 mins on a threadmill.  Because it raises your metabolism.

I've been working out for 2months with regular cardio and lost only about 2kgs, when I changed to HIIT for a total of less than two months (1 month then 2 months na tinamad then 3 weeks ulet)

I lost 6 KG.

During that gap period I lost 2kg without changing my diet.  I was surprised but a trainer told me it's because my metabolism has been increased.

Also since I had muscle gain, more muscle in our body makes us burn fat faster. :)

Just a lil' something from personal experience na baka makatulong kung tamad ka for long workouts.

Although in hit you do 15-30 mins a day...you feel like you're drowning in your own sweat after talaga.  It's when you do 1 min of extreme workout(like dapat full effort, yung bigay na bigay) then rest for the next minute and alternate it again.

kami noon sa Jeet Kune Do na martial art, ang bibilis namin pumayat. pano, high intensity training. we kick and punch at the fastest time possible. give out everything.

kaya naniniwala talaga ako sa HIIT.

doing hit is like being high on fat burners. 8 hours later, feel na feel mo pa rin epekto ng workout mo.

I know!  I use body combat, taekwondo too and video workouts for it.  It's so much fun!

The afterburn effect is within the next 24-48 hours.

I do 15-20 mins in the morning when I have extra time and on such days gising na gising ako and hyper na hyper, I feel like I have so much energy!

hmm... i do yoga everyday for 1.5 hours... slow movement.. though it will really make you sweat alot.. this is not bikram with the heated room.. just your normal temperature room... but i could say that i am actually thinner now than i did before i gave birth.  and what makes it more fun... i eat everything they tell us not to eat! :p  french fries, cakes, cookies, bread, sugar, sweets... i love sweets.. as in I can give up meat but i highly doubt if i can give up my sweets! hehe!  icecream... oooww heaven!

So i don't know i personally believe that its not really with watching what i eat... though eating healthy food is good.... but regular exercise would surely help!

Share ko lang, sabi nung fitness trainer friend ko to lose weight, exercise at least 5-6x a week (1 hour per session) pero if for health reasons or to maintain the weight, okay na 3-4x a week. Siyempre kelangan din sabayan ng healthy diet :).

hi sis orange that is the main idea :) But it also depends on what exercise you're doing...

some burns more than others and others less.  It all depends on the calories you burn..

HAY BAT BA ANG HIRAP MAGPAPAYAT AND STAY THAT WAY!

If I go beyond my calorie intake (1400), I exercise an extra 30 minutes more. Daily ako nag-e-exercise however, minimum 20 minutes on the 30 day shred, 15 minutes na pussycat dolls workout tapos 1 hour na yoga. I try to shoot for an 1 1/2 kasi in my case, kung 1 hour lang, maintained ko lang weight ko =(

The body goes into catabolic state usually after 1 hour of intense exercise.

So sa mga nagbabad ng half-day sa gym, you're doing more harm than good.

ako naman, based on personal experience ha.

i exercised 3x a week, 30 minutes per session, and kept my net calorie intake at 1,200 per day.

lost 15 lbs doing that, medyo matagal nga lang, mga 2 months.

so hindi ako agree na you won't lose weight if you exercise for only 30 minutes.
