GRADE SCHOOLS IN QC

^ That's why we working moms need a good support system.  I'm blessed to have my mom with us to take the kids everywhere and a tutor who empowers my kids to do their school work while not letting them get too dependent on her help.

My boys looove Ateneo.  At first, I was dubious (taga-UP kasi ako haha).  But I really appreciate the school for being organized, the teachers for being so well-trained, fair and nurturing and the Jesuits for inculcating the Ignatian spirituality to the children even at a young age.  There is really something to admire at the way these big schools have their systems and structures in place.

Of course, small progressive schools also have their advantages.  It's really down to the fit between student and school, I believe.

^yes that's true that it really depends on what would best benefit your child.  I'm just glad that both my boys, having graduated from a progressive preschool, are both fit for the traditional setup.  For me kasi mahirap maghanap ng progressive school until highschool.

I'm still in search for a gradeschool for my son, he is currently studying in cambridge mariposa in new manila. We had been busy last year kaya di kami nakakuha ng entrance exam sa xavier, then i thought tapos na ang application last october, early this February ko lang nalaman na nag open pa pala ng slot last january kaya yung ibang classmates ng son ko nakapag take pa ng entrance...my son passed the entrance exams at Jubilee and PIQC both have chinese curriculum din, eto lang din kasi malapit sa amin, ayaw ko naman masyadong malayo sa house at naaawa ako sa anak ko dahil mapapagod sa biyahe, btw, kinder muna sya.....but i'm still eyeing for xavier and ateneo for gradeschool....may chance ba na makapasok siya for grade 1 next year? Alam ko na mahirap kasi magkaron ng slot sa grade 1..... How about Centro Montessori? Okay kaya mag gradeschool sa kanila? Any feedbacks po mga mommies.....thank you in advance!

^ You may start inquiring with Ateneo for grade 1 application for next school year (SY 2015-16) by July.  Same with Centro Montessori.  Both schools do not offer Chinese though.  Grade 1 ang entry point in both schools so there should be a slot for your son.

For my 6 year old daughter (grade 1), I'm eyeing on St. Mary's, Holy family, Holy Spirit in BF, Learning Tree, Raya. Yung high passing rate sana sa QueSci and Pisay pero below 70k tuition fee :-D

cool_chique, nakakuha pa kayo ng slot sa Raya? Sarado na ang admissions nila. Medyo nalunkot ako kasi wala na palang slots. Oh well. Yung Raya and TLT, more than 70K, I think. Closer to 100K yata.

Still on the fence whether to set our daughter in a traditional or progressive school. Ang concern ko sa progressive, usually siksikan sa isang building ang mga bata and there's very limited space and facilities for play or extra-curricular activities.

sis, sorry to interfere, is the Holy Family School you've mentioned here the one behind Claret (along Maginhawa St.)? sis, just a warning ah, i have two mom friends who have daughters studying in HFS and their sons in Claret. they are complaining about the curriculum and the way HFS is being run. magulo daw. one of them has a daughter who's 6 1/2 years old and just completed grade1. HFS wants the kid to undergo bridging program and then promote her to Grade3. medyo rattled si mom friend (who is also a teacher but in a nearby preschool) ko because she knows her daughter is not yet emotionally prepared for Grade3. playful pa kasi yung bata, and Grade3 already requires a certain amount of focus. i'm not sure if her daughter will still continue in HFS. both mom friends even commented na kung naga-accept lang ng girls sa Claret, ipapasok na nila sa Claret yung daughters nila. just a tip and warning sis.

Hay, it seems we'll be scouting for another school for our 5 yo daughter.  She's actually enrolled na at Miriam this coming school year but we're a bit hesitant kasi we're expecting another child by December of this year.  My pregnancy is a welcome surprise pero of course some adjustment needs to be made, esp sa budget. Frankly speaking I think we'll be transferring her to a less expensive school later on kay naiisip na namin na wag na tumuloy sa Miriam.  Other than the tuition that seems beyond our budget na, shempre may iba pang expenses di ba to consider like school service,  tutorials etc.

Nakakahinayang lang the 10k+ that we cannot refund if we withdraw our daughter from Miriam now. *Btw current tf at Miriam is 102k+ if installment basis and 100k plus if full payment.

Ano sa palagay nyo mga sis? I need your advice... Do we transfer now or transfer na lang next year or so?

^ Sis, it's kinda late to transfer now since enrollment time na yata in most schools, unless you have a slot at the other school.

By the way, if I may ask,  what is your second choice of school (the one with lower tuition fee)?

Please share your personal opinions about the Ateneo, aside from the traffic. What's the ratio now? My son will be grade 1 this school year. Thanks.

^ The traffic is really bad but we manage by sending the kids to school really early (they leave no later than 5:55 am for their 7:30 am class even though we're within the same vicinity and practically katabi lang ng Miriam College).  It's tough but good training for children to know the value of being early for school and for life in general.

There are 38 boys in a class.

One thing I love about the school is the character formation.  The Jesuits and teachers really emphasize good values, discipline and love for God and country.  This year, they will be formally incorporating environmental education in the curriculum.  Plus points ito sa akin. The academic curriculum is very strong on literature and thus, Ateneo boys generally love to read.  Sabi nga sa akin ng isang Scholastic agent, pag sa Ateneo sila nag-book fair, first day pa lang halos sold out na ang books unlike in the other sikat na boys' school. Happy din ako sa Singapore Math because it's process-based and enjoyable for the boys.  My boys will be in grade 2 and I couldn't be happier with the way they are developing.  I had my doubts about Ateneo before, mainly because of the homework and weekly quizzes.  So far, we are managing well.

My current situation is where to enrol my son?

ANGELICUM COLLEGE or ST.MARY'S COLLEGE???
- Both for enrolment na ang son ko for Grade 2
- Both near our place
- Both suit my budget for fees and all

Kaya lang Angelicum is non-graded compared to St.Mary's which is traditional.

Let me know your thoughts mga mommies. Kase I'm planning to enrol na by next week sana. TIA!

BTW, I'm referring to School of the Holy Spirit, B.F. Homes, Q.C.
