GRADE SCHOOLS IN QC

^ Correct ka dyan sis. Bata pang masyado ang isang 6 year old to be in Grade 1. Ako man din ay nahihirapan magturo minsan sa anak ko. Thanks to God at nakaka-excel naman si baby ko sa studies nia and nakakakuha ng mataas na grade and she even got a perfect score sa ilang subjects niya nung nagdaang Mastery Exams nila at 1st Periodical Exam.

Pero kasi dahil sa k-12 yan na ang age ng bata to be accepted as grade 1
Ok na rin siguro .... tiyaga-tiyaga lang at sobra-sobrang pasensya na lang tayong mga mommies sa pagtuturo at pag gabay sa studies ng mga junakis natin

sis aleng_maganda, i know the feeling. sa school din kasi ng son ko (claret), even if they are in grade2, nagchi-check pa rin si class adviser ng reminders notebook nila daily, to check if the kids copied their assignments correctly. if i could give a tip for your niece, siguro try her best na lang to copy what teacher writes on the blackboard. during my stay in STC, the teachers give ample time naman to the students to copy what they write on the board. one thing helpful din is, perhaps you or your sis (i assume she's the mom) can set an appointment with the class adviser para ma-set yung tamang expectations. makakatulong din if your sis has a co-parent na pwede nya tanungan once in a while if she feels na napgiiwan si niece mo. konting tyaga lang yan sis.  major adjustment talaga yung pagmove ng bata from preschool to elementary. pero once masanay na rin sila sa pacing ng grade school life, makakayanan din yan ni niece mo.

Just want to know how much ang tuition fee sa claret?
Is St.mary's college a good school too? Coed na rin ba sila dun? Magkano din a ng tuition dun?
Hope may maka sagot sa tanong ko. Im a solo parent  and my kids will be transferring here in manila next school year.

^ sis, for claret, depende sa grade/year level ang tuition fee. my son is currently in grade 2. for this year, his tuition is around 67-68k (naka-semi-annual mode of payment ako).

^^My son is currently in Grade 2 at St Mary's. Coed sila with class size of about 30-40. About 45k ang TF for Grade 2 plus books. I forgot how much yung books, around 4k yata. TF can be paid annual, semi annual and monthly.

Hi mga moms!!
I have a Grade 3 kid at Olympian Preparatory in Fairview, Im thinking of transferring my boy either to diliman prep or school of saint anthony next school year, this is in preparation for his entrance exam in Quezon City Science of Philippine Science. Though Olympian is very good school but I want sana the best, like all moms her.    5 years ago, madaming nakakapasok from Diliman Prep pero I heard na mukhang tga School of St. Anthony na ang madaming passers ng quezon city and philippine science. My nephew and niece are graduates of qscie kaya gusto ko din na duon makapasok ang anak ko.

Any feed back sa two schools na ún?

Hi mommies! Been eyeing another school for my daughter. Since she passed her exams in Poveda I am also looking for another option. How about  any feedbacks how much is the tuition fee for Miriam College CSC?  The reason why I am looking for another school is that the heavy traffic in edsa going to ortigas every morning. As in gapang ang sasakyan pag rush hour unlole gping to Miriam College moving naman and hindi ganon kagrabe compared to edsa andas malapit kami sa MC. Any feedbacks mga Mommies?

^ Heavy din ang traffic sa Katipunan because of Ateneo, Miriam, MI, Kostka and other schools in the area especially during pasukan and dismissal.  Traffic can get really terrible sometimes.  My sons study in Ateneo and they have to leave the house by 5:55 am so they can have time to copy their homework written on the board before class begins at 7:30 am.  We live in one of the villages along Katipunan so ang lapit lapit talaga namin.  Just want you to know because traffic is a major consideration for you.


Miriam is a good school with a beautiful campus and a curriculum similar to Ateneo's, but if I had a daughter, I'd send her to Poveda.

My daughter passed her exams in Miriam College and Poveda and paid her Slot for both schools. Atleast my 6 months pa ako pra mag decide kung saan talaga siya. Grabe kasi ang traffic going to Poveda as in edsa lang talaga ang daan namin. But for Miriam College my 3 shortcuts ang alam ng driver ko so I think I'm leaning to MC na but  I still have to see if saan ang gusto ng daughter ko. Yun kasi ang very important kung saan siya masisiyahan.  Mc's campus is so big and close to nature kasi unlike Poveda katabi mismo ng edsa so been thinking twice.

Hi mga sis. It has been a while since i visited GT. now I'm scouting for a grade school for my daughter. She's incoming grade 1 next school year. I've been eyeing SHS in BF homes kasi both my nieces go there ang kaso lang I'm having 2nd thoughts because of the class size and medyo malayo sya sa amin. Sayang ang oras sa byahe. My 2nd choice is Maria Montessori sana kasi malapit sa amin. I've seen it mentioned in this thread several times but never really read a feedback about this school.

How about Holy Family? I've seen lots of good feedbacks about Claret, what about their neighbor all-girls school, Holy Family?

Also Benedictine School near Celebrity Sports Plaza. Any reviews? Ang hirap maghanap ng magandang grade school within our area. St. James QC & San Lorenzo, St Patrick School are very near our place but never saw their names mentioned in the reviews.

I would really appreciate more feedbacks. The preschool thread here in GT helped me a lot in finding my child's preschool & happy naman ako. Sana sa gradeschool din.

^ It is highly rated, sis and I have inquired there before.  Reasonable ang tuition fee (around 70k as of last year, if I am not mistaken).  I don't like the facilities though.  The building is kind of run-down, there are like, 3 or 4 parking slots in front, and I don't know if they have an open yard for physical exercises.

Do check out Centro Montessori in Xavierville, QC.  It also has a high passing rate to Pisay.  Two years ago, 11 out of 18 of their grads passed the Pisay entrance exam.  CM sends out a few kids to Pisay every year.  Amazing for a small school.

i just called The Learning tree this morning and per conversation, malabo na daw that I can get a slot for Senior Kinder (age 5.6 by June).  those graduating from TLT pre-school are not automatically admitted sa gradeschool. they stilll have to pass the entrance test daw.

anyway, right now it seems like UPIS, Miriam, and Diliman Prep. 
Now lang ako naging aware sa Centro Montessori.  Around how much po kaya ang TF?

I heard sa Miriam daw nasa 95k ang kinder.  no idea how much ang 1st grade. expensive talaga pero si hubby convinced naman na kaya daw namin magawan ng paraan (ako hindi hehe!) anyway, while i think that my daughter can thrive in a traditional school, inaalala ko lang baka super tambak naman yung assignments and such.  tapos ang dami pa daw nila sa class, mga 40+ students? paano matututukan ng teaacher kung ganun sila kadami? sana somebody can enlighten me.

^ Centro Montessori is grade school only, sis, ha.  TF is around 100k+.

Most students in Centro came from Family Montessori in Loyola Heights.  My kids went there for preschool.     I would estimate that tuition at FM will now be around 100k.  When we left kasi (SY 2012-13), around 95k na and may around 5% increase sila yearly.  I love the school.

I had doubts as to whether my boys can thrive in a traditional school especially since they took time to bloom.   Fortunately, they're doing very well, in fact, better than they did when they were in Montessori.  Don't get me wrong.  I love Montessori and I believe it's still the best method for preparing a child for grade school and even for life.  But as things have unfolded, it seems that my sons are more suited to a structured and traditional method of learning.  As for homework and quizzes and stuff, marami talaga but you and your daughter will cope, I can assure you.   These big schools have been doing it for years and we should put a little more faith in their educators.  This is a complete turnaround for me who used to be in love with Montessori and the more progressive type of educational methods.  I still believe in their advocacy and philosophy, by the way.  However, I have learned not to discount that the traditional method also works.

^^wow, you're right marose.  I'va also had apprehensions about my sons going to the big school but after 2 years in claret, I'm quite satisfied with how my eldest is turning out.  I used to rant about tests and loads of assignments pero I can see how proud my son is whenever he accomplishes these things.  My second son is about to join my eldest in claret this coming school year so I'm preparing myself for 2x the stress ngayon pa lang haha!

^ That's why we working moms need a good support system.  I'm blessed to have my mom with us to take the kids everywhere and a tutor who empowers my kids to do their school work while not letting them get too dependent on her help.

My boys looove Ateneo.  At first, I was dubious (taga-UP kasi ako haha).  But I really appreciate the school for being organized, the teachers for being so well-trained, fair and nurturing and the Jesuits for inculcating the Ignatian spirituality to the children even at a young age.  There is really something to admire at the way these big schools have their systems and structures in place.

Of course, small progressive schools also have their advantages.  It's really down to the fit between student and school, I believe.
