GRADE SCHOOLS IN QC

We're still not decided between STC or HSS (Cubao), but highly likely we would prefer the one nearer, for convenience not just for us, but also for the kid na hindi masyado maaga gigising, more time to sleep and do homework (kaysa matraffic or magbyahe).

However, reading your post mommies, about having the impression na maybe your child is doing so well in school is partly because the school's standards are not so high din -- this is actually what i am thinking right now. Kasi, my kid got PERFECT score in her entrance exam sa HSS. I dont know if i should be happy, proud or worried? That's what makes me think na baka madali talaga sa school na yon? When I asked my daughter ano yung questions, spelling daw..what words... DOG, BOOK, and the likes... nyek? 'Easy-peasy' nga, as what she told me.

Her present directress advised us na if we decide to enroll our daughter there (sa HSS din nag-grade 1 daughter nya before transferring to Poveda) , she suggests na kailangan daw i-supplement ko daw pa ng ibang activities and exercises si daughter ko after school.

angelicum was one of the schools we visited with my son.  unfortunately, he didn't like it there.  siguro kasi mixed ng grade school, high school and college kaya naguluhan siya.  he'll be an incoming grade 1 sana.  sayang nga kasi the tuition fees are affordable.  may be you can call their registrar's and the accounting office para malaman niyo kasi that's what i did also.

my daughter is just starting preschool st PAUW UP CCC.  btw progressive style ang teaching sa PAUW and i think that really good for young children.  we will try our luck with UPIS come kindergarden.  Pag hindi pinalad, we'll continue with PAUW na lang siguro.

For grade school, gusto ni hubby sa Miriam (he an ateneo alumni) but id rather enroll her in a co-ed school and preferably a non-catholic school.  no offense to anyone ha.  we are not Catholics kasi so i don't want my daughter to get confused in anyway. 

parang gusto ko sa Raya.  any idea how much po ang tuition dun for grade school?

also, any feedback po sa Grace Christian College (formerly Grace Christian High School)?

But I know what you mean. Baliktad naman tayo.  Catholic ako but there are a number of good Christian schools around - meron akong nakikita sa UP Village, I forgot the name lang.

If you like the progressive approach, consider The Learning Tree, ganda ng feedback sa school na ito.  It's in Sikatuna Village.  Diyan nag-aaral sina Frankie and Miel Cuneta-Pangilinan.

^ Check mo na lang ang website ng TLT.  I plan to give this school a visit soon.  Gusto ko din mag-inquire kasi for grade school ng kids ko.

^^Miriam grade school and hs (even college) is still all-girls. CSC lang ang co-ed.

Regarding Diliman Prep, during my time, marami akong schoolmates sa QueSci who came from this school. Diko lang alam ngayon..

cool_chique - Saint claire School WAS a good school. The teachers were great, most, if not all, have a good command of the english language.
The classrooms were all airconditioned, and some classrooms were even carpeted. The kids were pampered.  Too bad they closed already. I heared the owner passed away, then the business went down.

Naku baka sobrang late na ang reply ko. I went to Angelicum in HS. It was very traditional during my time (around late 80's) I did not like it there. Sobra higpit ng mga pare. Nahirapan ako mag adjust. HS was very traumatic to me,  I enjoyed my school before that (OB MOntessori). I think ang school na papasukan ng anak depende sa needs ng bata. There are some na traditional ang pwede sa manila (example kids who are veered towards academics) they will be more effective in a traditional school. Kids naman na has gusto ang extra curricular activities, mas ok ang Montessori.

Sa nagtatanong ng HSS(Cubao) ang alam ko, di ganun ka ganda ang standard nila. Check nyo next time Diliman Prep, maganda ang programs nila (academics and sports) kasi hands on na si Nikki Coseteng.

I heard, nabili na daw ng foreigner after namatay ni Principal Bernales, so nagclose na pala? kabatch ko pa yung apo niya. May nakita kasi akong brochure ng St. Claire Fountain something along West Ave. and I remember that St. Claire had a branch in West Ave. before... sila pa rin kaya to? Anyways, many of us from St. Claire passed Quesci. Marami ring galing Diliman Prep, at St. Mary's. But this was around 15 years ago :p

Hi sis cool_chique - Yes, I also liked it there. I used to go to a catholic school ran by nuns before transferring to Saint Claire. I was amazed how students were pampered there. The teachers are nicer than those nuns/teachers from the catholic school I came from. Sayang wala ng Saint Claire.
So nabili pala ng foreigner? I guess that explains why napalitan na yung pangalan ng Romarinda International School.
I am not sure if Romarinda is an equally good one. Haven't heard any feedback yet, kasi nga siguro bago lang.
St Claire Fountain? Hmm, yeah I wonder kung yun pa rin yung Saint Claire sa West Ave. Interesting. Balitaan mo ko sis ha.

Hi I'm a newbie...I'd like to just share some info regarding Angelicum. I studied there since nursery til high school. Well I don't remember much of the pre-school years but I must say, I think i had a good foundation. Here's how their non traditional system of education works...

1. Modular System - don't worry about boat load of books that your child ought to bring. In Angelicum modules are used in lieu of the books. These are specially designed to be self studied by the pupil. If the pupil does not understand the contents of the module the teacher can then discuss to the whole class or one on one. It depends on the students' request.

Pros - if your child is a fast learner, he/she may already answer the activities in the module and take the exam right away
        - should the child meet the passing score he/she moves on to the next module
        - if the child is dedicated and persevering, he/she may finish all modules for the year in half a year's time. That would mean, half a year's vacation for your child. 
       - should the child wishes to take the exam but does not meet the passing score he/she will not   be marked as failed but will have to review again to take the next set of exam. There's set A to set Z.
       - this is an "at your own pace" kind of education. Unless you master the topic, you won't be able to move on to the next. That's why they call it "mastery education"
       - No failing mark, just pass or retake.

Cons - not suitable for learners without initiative to study, there are instances wherein the child does not finish the number of modules alotted for the school year. Ex. child is in Grade 2 but the module/s being taken is in Grade 1.
        - Modules cannot be taken at home, unless approved by the teacher
        - since the child may read/study the modules on their own, we were then allowed to study wherever we want. They do not confine us in the classroom. So tendency is the temptation of not studying is huge, the school is big (having a field, gym, auditorium, corridors, pool etc.) so there's a lot of distraction.
        - passing grade for an exam is quite higher than the standard (ex. for 10 items passing is 8, for 20 items passing is 16)

2. Affordable but classy

Pros - easy payment terms
       - known to be the school of the stars (because this is the only school i know who offers home study program, that's why celebrities study in this school e.g. Peralejo Sisters, Bea Alonzo, Kristine Hermosa, Xyriel Manabat, Santino-what's his real name? and a whole lot more)
       - offers activities that molds children to be well-rounded individuals (cheer leading, field demo, JS prom in 5 star hotels, sports etc.)

Con - students are brand conscious (hehe)
