How did you get your love for reading?

The earliest I could remember is trying to read the ABAKADA which my mom forced me to practice my reading skills. Then there's the Bible Stories for Kids, a gift from my grandparents who are both devout catholics. There's also Pepe and Pilar which I always "borrowed" from my Kuya's school bag. Elementary days, I discovered my elder cousin's stash of Funny Komiks and fell in love with Niknok lol. During highschool days, I began reading, more like become addicted, to tagalog pocketbooks. This even comes to a point of hiding those pocketbooks in my school books just so I could read. College days, I was introduced to Harry Potter and was completely sucked in. To this day I still blamed HP and The Deathly Hallows book released for not passing the CPA board exam haha lol 😅 I missed a whole day worth of lecture just so I could fall in line at 7am sa National Bookstore just to be the first one to get a copy and because I had to start reading after I bought it. No regrets though haha. After this I got hooked in Fanfiction (just because I don't want HP to end). Then it sort of goes on from there, I love reading novels and sometimes young adults fictions. If the book blurbs interests me its on my kindle. 😀

Reading is my life. I don't think I could survive (literally) if Idon't read for a day. Started wearing glasses at 10. Current grade 600/600 lol 😄

I grew up with my grandparents so I was alone most of the time. They have a library in their house and they allowed me to use it as my playroom extension. Next thing I knew I am not playing anymore.

My dad had a comic book collection. Mga tipong finds from Booksale. My mom loved classic novels. Nag-umpisa ako sa kiddie comics (Strawberry Shortcake, Top Dog, Care Bears) tapos na-force-feed ako ng classic novels (Wuthering Heights, Great Expectations, Jane Eyre). Lagi ring sira TV namin nun. Ayun. Haha.

My reading hobby. Is weird. I once had a boyfriend who is so smart that I thought he is by far the most ideal man I thought I would meet that time. He plays the same sport I am in and he reads. So para we have something to talk about we share books. Everytime we meet every rest day from work.. we tell stories about what we have read. haha Weird noh and boring. Ayun niloko nya ako haha! no closure. I just left.. the very interesting conversations with him suddenly became a blah! blah! blah! sad but okay narin kasi jackpot naman ako sa husband ko

I am really fond of reading since I learn to read. haha!
When I was very young, I even read the labels, nutrition facts, direction on how to use in every packaging I had ever held. Ex: Diapers, Milk Boxes, toothpaste. etc.

And then my cousin gave me a Garfield comics by Jim Davis (if I remember it correctly).
Then yun, I can't stop. Kahit pocketbooks, The Corps Mag, (It was a PMA magazine since my cousin was a PMAeyer). Then my Tita have a romantic book collection, [textspeak!] makakapal na books, from authors like Sydney Sheldon, Danielle Steel, Fern Michaels. etc. Dun na ko nahilig magbasa ng mga Romantic, Fiction, Contemporary, YA.
The first book I've read was Trading Places by Fern Michaels.

Reading the old comments here I hope I'm doing the right thing with my son. He likes playing video games and watching televison programs. Nagsuffer ng matindi ang reading comprehension niya. Lumaki din siya sa grandparents ko wherein he was allowed to do everything he wants. Nung kinuha namin siya to permanently stay with our own family, nakita ko mahina siya sa pagbabasa. So I cut his video games, no more gadgets and limited lang ang tv. binilhan ko siya ng mga Horrid Henry books.. tinatamad siya.. binilhan ko ng ibang story books, pati rin goosebumps ganun din.. ilang pages lang then bibitawan na, until one day, an ex told me to give my child comic books. ganun daw kasi siya nag simula magbasa. binilhan ko ng Archies. nagustuhan naman niya. this time binilhan ko siya ng Big Nate comic book kasi naisip ko para magkaron ng variations sa binabasa other than Archie. goodluck samin.. sana magustuhan niya din. kasi he's already 11 years old at feeling ko naghahabol ako maturuan siya to love reading books. Im hoping hindi pa huli ang lahat.

It all started when I was a kid. I first enjoyed reading make your own adventure books. Then my dad bought me The Secret Garden and comic book style of Shakespeare stories. After that, I just cant stop reading.

From my sister and brother, they are big readers talaga, specially my brother. He made me read a book before and I loved it after that tatry ko na basahin mga librong binibili nya pero ayaw nya pahawak since burara ako so I tried reading them na palihim nung bata pa kami haha!
