How did you get your love for reading?

My Mom gave me lots of story books nung bata pa ako, but then more on images lang yun. One time I found a tagalog pocket book, not a fan of it pero ang story kasi about Spirit of The Glass. Eh bata pa lang ako mahilig na ako sa horror or scary stories, kaya binasa ko sya. That's the first time na nagbasa ako ng walang images yung book. (I'm around 6 or 7 years old that time).

got it from my mom. nakikita ko sya everyday na nagbabasa ng books, newspaper, magazines and binibilhan nya din ako ng maraming books for kids para mawili ako. nagstick sya sa akin can't live without books hehe

It started with the Harry Potter series, hindi naman talaga ako mahilig magbasa pero I loved the movie talaga so I read it. After reading the series, I realized na gusto ko ulit magbasa, so I searched the internet for some good books. I remembered this certain film that I watched sa Star Movies and searched it, turns out it was a film from Stephen King's novel Carrie. So I bought Carrie and fell in love with it. Dun na nagsimula ang hilig ko sa reading. Nasundan na yun ng other Stephen King books, then I tried other authors as well. Now, mas love ko na reading kasi it widens my imagination talaga, and nakaka-improve sya ng english haha

my dad and my tita has tons of books... we would just sit togethersa garden reading... siyempre ako storybook kasi elem days pa ako nun eh...

My grandfather who was a school administrator when he was still alive, has a vast library of books. Ayun, at a young age, binabasa ko yung mga books nya sa library at yung Readers Digest.
Yung mother ko at tita na parehong teachers, also loves to read.

From both my parents. My mom, being a teacher, naturally had tons of books at home. My dad loves reading too. But my love for reading started when I had my first ever Archie Comics followed by Sweet Valley Kids. Later on, I collected Choose Your Own Adventure and even Reader's Digest when I was in grade school. I love how reading can make me experience a lot of things while taking me to different places.

I'm not really into reading books and all before but when a friend of mine gave me a book by Bob Ong, that started my passion on reading. I really love his books. That gave me the interest to search and explore other authors.

In our family, it's only I who are into reading. When I was a kid, my dad would buy toys, books, and notebooks for me. Every morning, I'd wake up really early and compile all the books that I wanna read and I would go to our living room to read while waiting for breakfast. I had Golden Rule books, compilation of sesame street stories, compilation of disney stories, among others and I would read them over and over. Even catalogues, gustong-gusto ko yan cus I love reading descriptions and imagining them in my mind.

I also love notebooks. I remember the first time my dad bought a diary for me; it was small, gold, and had a lock and key on the cover. That's when I developed my love for writing naman.

nung bata ako mahilig talaga ako magbasa ng mga fairy tales tapos may nagregalo pa sakin ng books na puro bugtong, yun ang naging fave ko. Pero naging hook ako sa pagbabasa nung tumira sa bahay namin yung lolo ko. Yung latest reader's digest at newsweek nya dati sa cr nakalagay.

I guess all the members of my family are bookworms, plus naexpose kami to reading at a very young age so, ayun, nahilig kami magbasa.

I started my first Nancy Drew book (yung yellow hardbound na old school) at 8, tas Chronicles of Narnia at 9.

before mahilig na ko sa magazine.. until nung napasok na ko dito sa recent work ko, yung mga ka-department ko kasi mahihilig din silang magbasa.. kaya nagaya na din ako.. hehe..

first book ko mga chicken soup for the soul series.. then nicholas sparks, james patterson etc..

it all started when i was still pregnant to my 2nd child, it was 2008. my first book was twilight and i thought that reading a book is a stress reliever for me.. so from then on. i never stop reading a book.

nung bata pa ko, palagi may comics and magazines yun nanay ko.. pag siesta, instead na matulog yun binubuklat ko.. so nung matuto na ko bumasa, nagbabasa na lang ako instead matulog.. kunyari lang natulog na ko.. i guess dun nagstart yun na kahit newspaper na 1920's na ginawang pambalot sa palengke, inieefort ko talagang basahin.. 


nung grade school na ko readers digest and health&home na ng tita ko.. high school ako nagstart sa pocketbooks, may classmate ako nagdadala tapos pinagpapasahan namin basahin ng mga classmates ko.. sweet valley, nancy drew and PHR.. 


after reading twilight, dun na talaga nagstart yun life ko na hindi pwedeng walang binabasa.. i am using my phone kasi so after praying, magbabasa ako til makatulog.. madalas in the morning may text na from a friend na bakit daw ako tumatawag the previous night.. kasi hindi ko nalalock fone ko at nakakatulog na ko.. lol. stress reliever alaga siya..

my mom..she loves books.pag birthday namin ng sister ko,xmas other special occassions books ang gift nya for us.
till now,mom na rin ako.i buy books for my 2 kids rin.

sa twilight ata ako nagsimula.. dun ko kasi nadiscover ang ebooks na nare-read pala sa fone ko.. pero sa Sybil ni Flora Rheta Schreiber ko nadiscover na masarap pala magbasa ng libro..

My mom told me that when I was around 3 years old, lagi daw akong may hawak na komiks as if I can read na talaga. That's when she started teaching me the alphabet kaya nung 4 y/o na ako lagi na daw akong laman ng upahan ng komiks ng kapit-bahay namin kasi nakakabasa na nga ako. Then 1st year HS, I chanced upon Sweet Valley High from my classmate. That's when I became hooked to reading. May place akong pinupuntahan noon na nagpapa-rent ng mga pocketbooks, and every week I would rent at least 3 books and return it the following week to rent some more. Hanggang sa noong naubos ko na basahin yung collection nila ng Sweet Valley at Sweet Dreams, nag-move on na ako sa Sidney Sheldon and other more mature novels. If I can't get enough of the book, talagang pinag-iipunan ko para makabili ng sarili kong copy para mababasa ko sya ng paulit-ulit. When I was in college at lumaki-laki na ang allowance, reward ko sa sarili ko ang book every month. That's when my collection started growing. Hay! I really love reading!

my uncle is a writer and everytime matatapos siya reading a book inuuwi niya sa bahay namin so when I was young palagi ko nakikita collection niya sa bahay like Sydney Sheldon etc until I started to read it then I got hooked na. So i have to thank my uncle for that kasi as early as grade 6 nahilig na ko magbasa

I started with grandpa's copy of Dracula (comic style, but just as grim) when I was 4. I learned to read very early kasi (3 y.o.) in both English and Filipino. I also was very curious.

My mom always told me na nung bata ako, instead na matutulog na, nasa corner ako reading my books. The books I read pa nun were Charlie Brown Encyclopedias haha! Then they will buy me mga Charlie Brown books. During elementary days, encyclopedias lang din binabasa ko pa rin. This time yung Collier's na. Then HS nag-start na ko magbasa ng Sweet Valley High pero hindi ako naging fan so patalon talon lang yung binabasa kong books then hiram lang ako sa friend ko na major collector nung series na yun. I also borrow from friends ng Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, Love Stories, etc... Nung nasa 3rd year HS na ko, we were asked to write a book report. I chose Midsummer Night's Dream then dun na nag-start yung love ko for classic novels. Then may phase ako na puro Danielle Steel haha!

Oh my gosh I also read those books when I was young! Haha pati encyclopedia generation encarta na ako haha. Then yun nga Sweet Valley High, Nancy Drew. I also remember Hardy Boys but not quite sure if I ever ended up reading those. Ang paborito ko dati, R.L. Stine tapos meron pa ako yung mga books na interactive, yung mga "if this is your action, go to page 99" hahahaha

I feel a little nostalgic. I wonder what happened to that sort of literature now. Kids must go back to those!
