How did you get your love for reading?

It was during 1st year high school. Everyone in class was into reading, then i joined since then love ko na mag basa. I started sa sweet valley from kids to college na series.

I was in grade six, I was about 11 years old then, my mom has a collection of VC Andrews novels, I got curious kasi nakakatakot yung picture sa cover, I remember the very first novel I read it was ''My sweet Audrina'' 3 months ko yata siyang binasa hehe.. After nun nagenjoy ako and I got into reading na, mostly VC Andrews novels pa rin yung mga next ko na binasa. I have my own collections din like Archie, kaso medyo mahal yun kaya konti lang Archie ko

Sa mama ko. Bata pa lang ako bestfriend na ni mama ang reader's digest. Kaya pag nagbabasa si mama, tabi ako sakanya at nagbabasa din ako ng fairy tales. Hehe!

sabi ng mom ko mahilig na raw ako magbasa since bata pa talaga. pero now, hindi na ako nagbabasa ng fiction. and hindi na eto ang motivation ko to read.

I love to dig deep when im into something. so i read read and read. kasi maigi na rin yung may knowledge ka from reliable sources, kesa from tabi tabi. friends may mean good pero depende na din sa information nila. i love reading anything na may kinalaman sa nahihiligan ko.

my dad is a reader and never failed to read to me when i was young. he read me the gift of acabar by og mandino when i was 6 and i cried :p i think it was the defining moment. hahaha!

When I was barely two my mom bought this Bible Story books with really nice pictures and all.  Since ako ang unang apo, my lola would always be at our house and read to me. I think that sparked my fascination in books. 

Then it turned to Komiks as in yung tagalog komiks, I remember reading Agua-Bendita sa Liwayway hahaha! waaahh those were the days.

Before I turned 8, mama gave me an english pocketbook, can't recall the title, but the story is still stuck in my head.. tapos around 10/11 yrs old I have this best friend who got tons of pocketbooks, that's when I read my first Sydney Sheldon novel.

Well, ever since I can remember I've always loved reading, being an only child I had to entertain myself often, and my parents knew that too, so they give me lots and lots of forms of entertainment, and one of them are books. I remember going to the mall, and I'd be so much happier when I go home with lots of books rather than toys.

Of course I loved fairy tales when I was a little kid, I had lots of different version of the classics and some obcure ones. When I was in pre-elem and elem, I always read the required books over the summer,just because I liked it, also, I loved reading those almanacs that they sell with a set of encyclopedias and also those amazing feats and facts books.

when i was in grade school, may mga pinapahiram na story books. i was always the first on the list. i was also reading my books ahead of my classmates.

then in high school, started reading nancy drew, hardy boys, sweet valley, sweet dreams. i really love reading stories. i have always preferred reading because your imagination becomes unlimited. unlike when you're watching movies, hanggang dun nalang sa pinapanood mo ang nakikita mo.

then in 4th yr school, ive started to discover more mature books like judith mcnaugth, sidney sheldon, eric sehgal, grisham, robert ludlum, sandra brown, etc.

i guess, once you started to love reading, you'll never get over it.

i started reading when i was young. but the first books i fell in love with are encyclopedias. my parents bought a lot of encyclopedias dati nung growing years namin, yung may mga magagandang pictures. so aiun. i still remember the first book that i read a lot of times, and i really consider that as belonging to me. it's almanac of the uncanny (about nessie, mysteries, ghosts). haha. weird i know, usually kids want fairytales and magical fiction. i seemed to prefer the nonfiction more. but the first  fiction book i really liked was harry potter. kahit ganoon ang harry potter, it had introduced reading and books to a bigger population. it made people love to read. kudos to that.

From my parents. I remember when I was a kid, most of the space sa sala namin was used for books, mainly yung Reader's Digest Condensed Books ng Papa namin; then Mama had subscriptions to the Reader's Digest, and some Tagalog magazines (Liwayway ang naalala ko hehe).

same with sisem.em, i realized i love reading when my mother gave me the book AbAkADA, then from there on kahit ano binabasa ko na, every new book na binibigay agad samin when I was still in elementary after magbayad ng tuition fee, binubuksan ko na agad, and even before the classes started, tapos ko nang basahin yung mga stories especially sa English, Filipino and Sibika subjects!! then i remembered may rasyon din kami nun ng Reader's Digest every month and gustung-gusto ko nung Laughter is the Best Medicine na section pati yung mga Quotable Quotes and yung mga true-to-life stories din na feature nila for every month.. But before pa kami magkaron ng rasyon ng RD, we had our daily supply of Manila Bulletin wth Panorama Mag.inside din, so ayun parang feeling ko out of no choice kaya lang binabasa ko yun, LOL!!! then I loved to borrow lots of books in our library when I was still in elementary pa rin para iuwi sa bahay kapalit nung School I.D. ko and so much of me being hooked up to reading books, I always apply to be part of the school newspaper, on the editorial section!  I've been inlove with Sweet Valley as well from Kids to High, and ofcourse di rin nakalagpas sakin yung Archie Comics..  then when I stepped in HS, I learned about PHR tagalog pocketbooks then became addict to it as well ( though i already know by now who's the best writer among them all, Martha Cecilia.. if you just knew what to read on tagalog pocketbooks like these, you wont find it cheap or corny at all.. harhar defensive?? )  then another good thing is that i discovered this forum, Ebook thread and was able to have an idea of what genre of books do i really love, though whatever catches my attention binabasa ko pa rin.. and i'll never stop reading because, i just can't.

i became a book lover nung 10th birthday ko, pinabili ko sa papa ko yung sweet value kids, sweet vallet twins, tsaka choose your own adventure. after nun, i was hooked! nag lie low lang ako nung mga high school kase biglang taas ng grado ng mata ko kaya minsan minsan nalanag ako bumili ng books nun.

I was at 6th grade when I first saw a Sweet Valley twins book. Buti pinahiram sa akin. The rest is history.

mahilig magbasa sister ko kahit nung grade school pa kami. And dahil nga nakikipagcompete ako, sinasabayan ko siya sa pagbasa and nakikipagunahan ako sa pagtapos ng book. Hanggang sa hindi ko na namalayan, hindi na ako nakikipagcompete. Nagbabasa na ako kasi gusto ko. Nagumpisa ako sa Archie and Sweet Valley Kids

For me, I owe it to FUNNY Komiks. My mom used to buy this one for me regularly. Not only I had fun reading it but it helped me to become the fastest reader during my grade school years. After that, sunod sunod na. I was introduced to YA books such as Sweet Valley, Girl Talk, Sweet Dreams and Love Stories. I read every books I could lay my hands to. Even my Filipino books (Panitikan), I enjoyed it a lot. Naalala ko pa kung gaano ka-supportive si mader sa akin na sinusuyod namin ang Recto at Quiapo just to purchase pre-loved YA books, kasi mahal pag sa National Bookstore (bago). Well then, the rest is history. I dont part with any of my books, except lang dun sa mga nahiram na hindi na nasoli. I like it na when I look up on my wall, they're just there waiting for me. Reading helps me in so many things, aside from the obvious. It comforts me. Cuddling in my bed with a good book can make my day complete

Syempre I started when I was in grade school. I remember palitan pa kami ng fairy tale books and Archie comics nung classmate ko...Then I read serious stuff na when I was in HS. I got hooked w/ Sweet Dreams, Sweet Valley High, then naging SVU.  I was also reading back then Sidney Sheldon / Danielle Steele / Judith McNaught novels kasi yun yung meron mga cousins ko (they are way older than me). Yung iba dala ng auntie ko from abroad, but sad to say kung kani-kanino na pinahiram ng kasambahay namin. Pati reader's digest winala na... Now that I've grown older naman, I read kahit ano, from contemporary to YA to chicklit.
Siguro kasi I'm a loner kaya mas gusto ko pa magstay sa bahay at magbasa na lang. Sabi nga, you are never alone with a (good) book.

it's a habit. my mom loves books and she encouraged me to read books when i was young. she also has her own collection. i had aesop's fables, and all the lady bird books they sold at the book store kahit Disney movies na ginawang books binibilhan din ako ng parents ko. mom ko din nag introduce sakin ng harry potter. she heard from a co-worker that it was a good read for kids my age. the first book came out when i was 11 or 12 so naka relate talaga ako sa harry potter. love ko din yung books kasi ang daming information na makukuha from them not to mention the values you learn and the advantage of widening your vocabulary.

ako nagpapa impress sa tita ko, she asked me if i read books sabi ko yeah, i'm currently reading harry potter kaso diko natapos nanghihiram lang kasi ko..next thing i know she sent me a complete set of HP books..and now i'm a certified #POTTERHEAD na..super naadik na ko.. right now naman books ni Philippa Gregory naman kinaadikan ko, done with the other boleyn girl and boleyn inheritance..waiting for my red and white queen books..
