Share naman kayo ng items that you usually pack when travelling.

I am a heavy packer and i always get to pack more than what I need.

Share na din kayo ng tips on how to pack lightly.

Thanks!

It depends on where I'm going, the purpose of the trip, and how long I'll be traveling.

If I'm going to visit my siblings, laging malaking maleta dala ko. Ang laman lang nun mga pinabili nila saka mga gifts from family in Manila. Yung gamit ko nasa handcarry lang XD

If it's a fam tour, it would depend on the itinerary. Usually, there are places that we are visiting that requires us to dress up, so syempre hindi yung usual backpacking clothes ang dala ko. I bring a suitcase for fam tours, but yung cabin trolley lang (which I check in), then a backpack for my laptop + camera, and a hand bag.

For personal backpacking trip, eto na yung madugo. I just bring one backpack (think a school-type backpack na medyo malaki) and a shoulder bag or messenger bag. And dapat mapagkasya ko dyan yung netbook, DSLR, clothes, toiletries, one pair of shoes and syempre yung mga chargers. Kasya naman :D

My backpacking trips last from 3 days to 25 days, and yes, almost the same amount of clothes ang dala ko: 2 pairs of pants (one is convertible pants, meaning nagiging shorts), 2 pairs of shorts, 4 shirts, 1 sarong, 1 medium microfibre towel, 1 pair of flipflops (or trekking sandals), 1 pair of rubber shoes, 1 big ziplock of toiletries and a small bag of underwear.  I make sure the clothes I bring are those na manipis and madaling matuyo para puede ako maglaba it will dry overnight.

Nako I need tips din regarding this topic. I pack really heavy kasi and last Friday when I flew from MNL - YYC, I got held at the check-in counter all the time, in all those 3 stopovers. Super tired and pissed off. From then on, I promise to pack my stuffs seriously. As in ca-career-in ko talaga!

Rimowa luggage.. very light, and best in terms of maneuverability
Plus -- better than the LV suitcases that harass everyone, really.

IF just for our usual weekend break to HK and/or Macau -- we bring the medium Rimowas.. 1 each, no handcarry (except for our laptops.. kung sino hindi makatiis, sya magdala hahahaha)
Because we stay in hotels we are familiar with... we pack no toiletries.. either the hotel provides as a standard feature, or we just ask and they give.

Bring the meds, bring sugar free snacks (2 or 3 packets), credit cards, chargers, cellphones, etc.. the things we need to live our lives di ba?  haha, and most impt:  leave more than enough space for the goodies you cannot resist buying.

IF travelling with kids.. hay salamat no more babies!   The kids' meds, first aid kit, their favorite treats, books, dvd player and some dvds (not pirated!  remember that) and whatever toy they cannot leave behind.

If travelling to the US --  easier.  everything can be bought.  But best to bring all meds too, prescriptions are hard to come by.  Even if you have doctor friends or relatives, if what you require is not their specialty.. problematic pa rin.

If travelling to Europe... to enjoy yourself... really use just the mediumsized suitcase, or smaller and a very wieldy carry-on (you may have to sit on it or use it as a back pillow in certain trains, certain areas.. magaling mga mandurukot doon ha!)   Live like the europeans!  Layering is the name of the game.. and they may not even wash their clothes every week. hahahaha

In Europe,  the trains are the most common means of transpo.   So you have to be able to manage your luggage easily.  And their places are not as safety-engineered as in the US.. so madali matapilok, madapa, etc.. and horros! in Venice -- dami baby bridges you gotta climb and go down over the canals .. may luggage ka pa!  Some protected parts of old palazzos converted into boutique hotels or smaller.. walang elevator.... grrrr.

Be very very careful in Europe.  IMO, dun ang biggest concentration of con artists, mandurukots of the highest skill level.  hehe

As much as possible, I travel with a Birkin35 -- to the US, within Asia.
But for europe -- mahirap yan, ma snatch yan.. so ?I use a Goyard fidji or a big LV -- kasi mahirap ma slash yan pero hay ang bigat!

This thread is so helpful. I'm trying to lessen kasi the stuff I bring when I travel. I have a tendency to bring everything and the kitchen sink wherever I go lol

i usually travel with my hubby and toddler. if it's abroad, we include photocopies of all travel documents - passport, hotel reservations, etc. and I put copies in all suitcases.
medicine kit:
paracetamol and cold medicine for my little girl
bandaid
small bottle of alcohol
diarrhea, fever and cold tablets

I also pack small scissors, scotch tape and folding umbrella. I usually bring disposable undies lalo na on long trips.

Toiletries:
travel-size bottles of our usual shampoo/conditioner
lotion
day and night cream

I also carry a small thermos for my little girl.

When I pack clothes, I make sure na my clothes can go with anything. But I try to bring as little as possible.

I always travel light, just with the basics.

For clothes, if I can't use it 3x, I don't bring it. Having said that, I always bring a scarf, which I can use as a shoulder wrap, dark-colored pants, two skirts, pajamas, undies, socks, long-sleeves shirt that I can roll up as short sleeves, swimsuit. If going to a cold country, I bring long johns for layering, gloves and warm hat. I also bring a neutral-colored jacket.

Shoes: rubber shoes, ballet flats, sandals

Gadgets: Laptop, phone, DSLR, digicam

Meds: allergy and motion-sickness meds

Toiletries: If I can buy it anywhere in our destination, I don't bring it. I just bring stuff from the derma

Luggage: Depende sa event na pupuntahan. If it's a tech convention, I bring an huge handbag. Usually bawal stylish since techies ang kaharap mo. If I go to Vegas or LA, I usually bring designer items.

If traveling with our toddler, I bring finger foods, drinks (sippy cups), meds, wipies, his fave books, and make sure our iPhones have his favorite games.

For specific toiletries or skin care... it helps to ask your brand SA when you buy to replenish your stocks for samples.  These come in small bottles or packs... saves you a lot in terms of space and weight.

I used to bring too xerox/spare  copies of our etickets, hotel reservations, etc.  But it is now handier to shoot these with and store in your cellphone...  :)

Yes, a small flashlight is a MUST specially if travelling with kids.
Hindi ko na list down earlier coz well.. OC nga ako, I have a small flashlight in my make-up bag even if I am just in MManila...

When travelling with kids, I separate their snacks and water from their DVD players, etc. -- put these in some sturdy disposable plastic bag.   When they dig around for food/a drink.. nothing of value is likely to be left behind or fall out.

As much as possible, when travelling with small kids,  have just one manageable bag to carry on the plane,  store your valuables and passports therein too (in a smaller clutch-sized or pochette-sized bag inside)
Do not have more than 1 bag... it is safer for you and your belongings to have just that 1 bag to mind, and you will still be able to hold on to your kid.

When travelling, I also nga use for my cash/credit cards/valuables & passports  clutches or pochettes that have these small chains attached to them which I can attach to a fixed ring in the bag interior.  That way,  less chances ma dukutan ka pa.   And should you be distracted by your kid, or husband  (hehe, mga demanding  husbands)  you are less likely to put down on a table or chair and forget to return to your bag whatever.

I use those small LV zipped pochettes or clutches with the chain incorporated.  I use more than 1.  All anchored to the interior bag ring (1 for the big denomination cash and credit cards; another for passports.  I keep a little cash for usual travel needs in a small wallet that is not chained. )
Safepac (that the right spelling?) also has a variety of travel items that come wtih chains and can be hooked up to the interior ring of your bag.

i have a Billabong backpack that is a trolley bag, too.
Well the wheels and the handle are not visible unless you're gonna use it. it's super cute and nice. kaya kapag napagod pwedeng trolley na. I use it on short travels or overnights lang.

In my  checked-in luggage....

1 small packet  containing  chargers for my camera, cellphones, laptop/netbook

   Another packet for underwear

   Another packet for  toiletries

Clothes  good for  the no.  of days  that I'll be away  or for 1 week, whichever period  is shorter.    I always have  a color scheme  for every trip  so I don't have to worry  about  mixing and matching colors.  For example,  in a recent trip,  it  was all red, white and black.

One dressy outfit  with matching  purse and shoes, wherever I go.  Kahit  pa sa  beach!

Footwear -  1 pair each of sneakers, sandals  and heels

At least 1 swimsuit  -  like  a  dressy outfit, this is also a must-bring  wherever I go.

One going-to-a-wake-or-funeral outfit -  for  trips  to the  ancestral home,  as you'll  never know

Photocopies of my  passport, ticket  and other travel documents

In my carry-on....

2 sets of  panlakad clothes and 1 set of sleepwear, including of course underwear

something to read -- like  a book, magazine or  newspaper

jacket/sweater  (if  it's going to be a long flight, I take it out just before boarding time)

photocopies of  my passport,  ticket and other travel documents  (second set ito)

In my handbag....

camera,  netbook, wallet, travel documents, cellphones, Ipod, flashdrive,  shawl, makeup kit, mint candies, house/car keys, shades, several pieces/sets of jewelry, eyeglasses, planner  (the old-fashioned kind),  writing pens   and travel guide/map. ( I don't  bring anything else  to read  as I avoid in-flight  reading.  I'd rather sleep and rest so I'll  have the energy for lakwatsa once I get to my destination.)

My last trip was in SF California and I stayed there for 8 days lang but it was a business trip. I tried to pack light but still ended up with 3 bags. I packed the following:

Handbag:
- small bottle of lotion
- toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss
- make up bag
- wallet, travel documents, ipod, camera
- sunglasses
- wet tissues
- extra pantyliners
- Duvaldilan (i was 6months pregnant then)

Laptop bag

Check in luggage:
- 5 dresses
- 3 pairs of leggings
- a pair of shorts
- 5 blouses
- 3 sets of sleepwear
- 10 panties and 5 bras (i washed my undies na lang)
- 4 pairs of shoes
- 2 jackets
- perfume, lotions, other toiletries
- ziplocks and plastic bags

I saved some space in my luggage for shopping but still ended up having to buy another bag. I also didnt bring towels anymore since I knew i was going to stay at 2 really nice hotels. i forgot to bring flipflops though.

aside from the usual items, I pack these:

Dry sack/dry bags- the dry sack is optional. The dry bag isn't. Since most of my preferred trips involve being in the water, super important for me to secure my stuff. Ang damit puwede pa mabasa. But my passport and money and ID-hell no.

Portable safe- if you're the type who prefers backpacker lodging, you'll find that some of the rooms aren't equipped with a safe. On our recent trip, our room had a closet but no safe. We could either bring our valuables with us all the time or leave them with the hotel staff. No freaking way. Buti na lang we had a portable safe. Laking ginhawa.
